Traditions

We all have silly traditions when it comes to Christmas.
It’s the time of year where memories float forward into psychi again, like an ebbing tide ,
and traditions visited again, gives you a sense of time and place and person and emotion.
I have only one full day off before being back on night duty on Wednesday, and so after a sleep I thought I’d hang the Christmas cards already delivered around the living room
My tradition is to fill every wall in the room.
It’s not a big tradition , but like all mini obsessions, it’s pleasing when it’s completed.
I’m three quarters completed so far.

The bad tempered postman dropped off a delivery of cards this afternoon, sending Dorothy into a mild state of low anxiety.
Albert has not moved from his new position in the bedroom window seat.
He was carefully watching Trendy Carol pass when I last saw him
She has a new bright orange puffer jacket .

  1. Our Christmas traditions are very simple - plenty of champagne and Lindt truffles!

  2. Bad tempered postman. Not good, but I imagine they're kept more than busy at this time of year. I'm sure you'll receive a lot of cards from your blog audience (probably why you have a cussing postie!). Pre-Covid, Christmas and the run up to is enjoyable although I find the post Christmas period a bit of a downer. Come January 1st decorations always seem rather tired. Still, there's a new year around the corner and we can all hope it's a better one than this one.It can't be any worse! I may even get to Trelawnyd and walk up the Gop again.

  3. We always treat our lovely cheerful postman Paul to a bottle of something, he wears shorts in all weathers, he’s still in them now . But certainly wouldn’t treat a grumpy one !

  5. We hang our cards on strings too but don't have as many as you. My sister and I have the tradition of buying the Christmas Radio Times. Our late Mum always bought it. My eldest son and my niece both posted they have theirs on FB. Silly really as we all have Sky TV. Mum would have 99 today.

  6. a friend of mine at the post said Christmas cards being sent is the lowest he's seen in years.

But looking at that pile, it must be just the US.

  9. We receive very few snail mail cards now. Some extended family still send Christmas letters (that American tradition) by post, but even those are beginning to show up via email.

  11. I display our cards this way too. For many Christmases our whole house was festooned in garlands of cards - the kids used to get so many! Nowadays we only have enough to cover the lounge and hall

  13. Well you certainly are a popular man! What a fun tradition! I hang mine in the living room/dining room area of my home but I don't get so very many! I enjoy the ones with family photos and/or newsletters.
Merry Christmas, John, and Best wishes for a very happy, healthy New Year!! :)

Love your festive card display and I hope you receive enough to go all the way around the room.
When I was a child in Memphis, Tennessee (think Elvis!), the postman came twice a day during December because there were so very many Christmas cards to deliver. These days, not so many.
I wonder if the top small card atop the box in the first photo is from me. Looks like the same stamp I used but I cannot see the handwritten address clearly.

    Hugs!

  19. For all of my daughter’s forty four years, I’ve had a blue tin with a snowman painted on it and it’s where I’d put every Christmas card we’d get in the mail. Since she could read our daughter would get in and read each one separately, then ask who each sender was. I’d make up funny stories about each one. We’ve spent the last three years living 1,000 miles apart, but I send her the cards in a big envelope the day after Christmas. Each one has a little story about the sender.

  21. I've always known you are rich with friends and your Christmas cards are a good example! I don't receive many cards anymore but I don't send out as many as I used to. I'm trying to change that. Hanging your cards is not a silly tradition! I think they are meant to be displayed!

  24. Our living room always had strings of Christmas cards around it when I was a child. But now, my forlorn little group of cards (all 5 of them) stand on the mantel alongside my 3 illuminated, snow-covered cottages and a few sprigs of holly.

  25. Holy moly, do you get Christmas cards! I thought I was doing good this year by getting six so far, LOL!

  26. We used to get loads of cards, especially when my friend Lisa moved in with me and my daughter. We did the same thing with hanging them all around the living room. Now I only get enough to stand them on the mantel. Electronic cards just aren't the same!

  31. My name is Jane Wembli Josh and i live in the USA California and life is worth living right now for me and my family and all this is because of one man sent by GOD to help me and my family, i once had a life filled with sorrow because my first SON needed a kidney transplant and all our savings were going towards his medications and this normally leaves us with no money to pay our bills or even put enough food on our table and our rent was due and no funds to pay these bills and life felt so unfair to me and every night my wife will cry herself to sleep every night until one day, i was browsing through yahoo answers and i saw a striking advert of a man that gives out personal loans and that the offer is opened to all and i have heard so many things about internet scams but at this point of my life, i was very desperate and ready to take any risk and at the end of the day, i applied for this loan and from one step to another, i got my loan within 12 hours through bank transfer and you know, it was all like a dream and i called Rev. Fr. Kevin Doran A Man who is the GOD sent lender i found and said, i have received my loan and he smiled stating that to GOD be the glory and i was so shocked as i have never ever seen anyone with such a GOD fearing and kind heart and today, i am the happiest man on earth because by GOD’S grace, my SON kidney transplant was successful and today he is healthy, i and my family are living very comfortable and happy and if you are in my former situation or in serious and legitimate need of a loan, you can reach this GOD sent lender via consumerloanfirm@gmail.com
