Sunday

Night shift days scoot by in a succession of short sleeps.
I walk the dogs when I get home.
Then they are fed and all come to bed for a few hours before Dorothy wakes me up around 1pm for another wee, then it’s back to bed until five or so.
The cottage is invariably cold when I prepare “breakfast” and so I switch on the little oil heater in the kitchen and we all cram in like the Waltons in order to eat and keep warm
Today some village Children delivering Christmas cards woke us all up around four and so wrapped in fleeces, I made a breakfast of ravioli infused with walnut oil covered in pecorino cheese.
Bloody lovely
Just enough time for a bucket of coffee before more dog walks
The drive to work is accompanied with radio 4
It’s Pick of the week  tonight

  2. "...before Dorothy wakes me up around 1pm for another wee..." It is good that you have Dorothy to remind you that you will be needing another wee. I expect she got fed up of the wet mess you made before she took that duty on.

  6. My son is on the night shift at his job - assembling boat motors for Mercury Marine - so he always sleeps during the day. He even keeps up his sleeping days schedule on weekends. So I always have to think twice when I want to text him or call - don't want to disturb his sleep.

  7. Pasta for breakfast, before a cold dog walk sounds a great plan; I shall try it; though I'll have to pass on the bucket of coffee until I get home. The bushes are a bit thin at this time of year!

Oh, perhaps you should post your pasta-for-breakfast recipe for us who like breakfast for dinner. Pretty please?
Love your account of your day as you deal with your run of night shifts and day sleeps. Bless your heart and other parts, my friend.

    Hugs!

  9. I understand short sleeps perfectly. In the olden days when I exhibited at art shows, I generally drove through the night on Sunday, to get home, have a short sleep and get up and be semi productive by early afternoon. But with a full house and grandchildren and all, short sleeps was more like it.

  10. When there's nothing else in the cupboard for breakfast, other than Ravioli with Walnut oil, you really know that times are hard!!

  11. I haven't listened to Radio Four since I was about 10. Then I would stay awake in bed with my torch under the bed covers waiting for the evening instalment of the Book of the Week or whatever it was called. I would lie there through the news, through the weather and then the Shipping Forecast ... marvelling at the names of the shipping areas ... and then it was grown-up story time and then sleep.
