Welsh terriers are desperate cuddlers
They will cling to you as a baby would, but unlike babies they never cry and will snuggle all night without pissing themselves.
Over this year Mary has been loaned out many times to friends that need this “ cuddle time”
The other night my friend Ruth collected her for an under- the- duvet night, only a few hours after Hattie collects her for a walk ( and long hugs on a country bench) and a day after Trendy Carol collects all of the dogs but only allowing Mary to come up to her drawing room for some sit on her knee time .
All my Welsh terriers have been the same
There's a similar trait that Pugs have. Every single Pug that I have parented has needed to be permanently welded to me, except when showering. Does this say something about us or them?
ReplyDeleteMy granddaughter has a chug, part pug part chihuahua. He is called Stitch and is constantly Stitched to her, must be a pug thing.
DeleteWe all need to be needed x
DeleteTherapy dogs
ReplyDeleteI used to take Finlay , my first welsh terrier, into the hospital where I worked, he would lie on the patients as still and as careful as he could
DeleteI think my thatch may possibly be a Welsh terrier as some dog walkers have suggested even though the dogs home said he was a lakeland. He apparently lived outside with other dogs in Ireland and they said he'd never lived in a house before. He still is not house trained and will only have cuddles on his terms. His coat was matted and so they shaved him and there is still a patch on his back only slowly returning and a front tooth removed. He is a monkey x
ReplyDeleteLakeland’s are similar without quite the humour of the welsh
DeleteThis boy is wild and crazy John x
DeleteCould be that you yourself are cuddlesome.
ReplyDeleteI like to think so
Deleteand chow chows are like...go away and leave me alone.
ReplyDeleteNot a dog I warm to
DeleteMy mother always had Welsh Terriers, no doubt for the same reason.
ReplyDeleteI always remember you saying x
DeleteSounds like Mary is being thoroughly spoilt by all her admirers!
ReplyDeleteOh she loves the attention
DeleteWhat a loving and endearing photo, John.
ReplyDeleteThank u jimbo
DeleteThis is quite wonderful.
ReplyDeleteXx
DeleteThe Community Caring Dog. Perfect.
ReplyDeleteDorothy just wouldn’t leave the house without me
DeleteElsie sits as close as possible. If I watch TV she sits on the back of the sofa, acting like a neck warmer.
ReplyDeleteYes I love the fact dogs need to touch you whenever possible
Deleteawwwwww, mary looks SO happy in that pix! as does her daddy! my 15 year old nyla cat will sit on my chest for hugs & kisses.
ReplyDeleteFunny I find cat cuddles too claustrophobic.
DeleteYou definitely need to get those puppies organised!
ReplyDeleteI do,s till no luck
DeleteIf I ever got a rescue dog, which is unlikely and at my age would be unfair, I now know which breed to go for.
ReplyDeleteRaymondo I could recommend one more
DeleteHow about rescuing a senior dog Raybeard? Would be lovely for both of you...
DeleteI'll decline your offer for now, JayGee, only because when I let thinking about animals run free, it takes over my entire life. Should I need your advice on any particular canine matter - as well as others - you'll be at the very top of my 'go-to' list. Thanks anyway.
DeleteI would do that, Anon, if only I didn't already have my present feline quartet to care for. But thanks.
Well that's just too adorable. 🙂 And cuddles are the best. With our pets or someone else who's dear to us. 💛
ReplyDeleteI could do with a few bear hugs too
Deletecouldn't we ALL, honey!
DeleteLovely girl and wonderful photo. X
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful, she is such a beauty as well.
ReplyDeleteShe’s smiling! I need a Welsh terrier ... x
ReplyDeleteThey do smile , wide and long
DeleteSuch a sweetheart! We've talked about getting a dog when we retire to an acre in the high country of the Southwest (U.S.) and will have to look into a Welsh Terrier when the time comes.
ReplyDeleteThey are ideal dogs really
DeleteAnimals can be so healing and comforting can`t they, I`m quite convinced some are angels in disguise.
ReplyDeleteI will ask you to rem8nd me of this statement when Dorothy plays up in the car
DeleteShe is absolutely adorable and loves you plus her size is a bonus. Try getting a Rottweiler off of you lap when THEY DECIDE they want a cuddle and won't shift off!
ReplyDeleteTess xx
Just like a Pug then, if Suky isn't pinned to my side on the sofa she's stood behind me in the kitchen or following me from room to room as I do things. Sometimes if I'm in and out of the rooms too much she will take up a vantage point in the hallway and watch my comings and goings with the air of an exasperated babysitter.
ReplyDeleteDoggy cuddles are something we all need at the moment.
I had a border collie like that.
DeleteI'm so surprised that Mary is happy to spend time, particularly an overnighter, in someone else's house. I had to leave my 10 year old Bichon with a friend while I attended a hospital appointment and he whined and whittled the whole time except when she took him for a walk.
ReplyDeleteMary is confident with others especially women
DeleteIncidentally, today's photo is very similar to the one of you and William, also a cuddler.
ReplyDeleteAnd Meg too
DeleteMuch loved pup x
ReplyDeleteShe is indeed x
Delete"and will snuggle all night without pissing themselves"... Yes, that has generally been my first and most basic criterion for a bedtime partner (and so far so good, although we are aging fast...)
ReplyDeleteAny night soon then !
DeleteWhen I first saw the post title and image I thought you were offering yourself up for rent (and swiftly moved on... although no doubt some people would linger)
DeleteI doubt I’d make a living from it andrew
DeleteIt is nice of you to lend her out!
ReplyDeleteIt would be mean not to...I do get jealous
DeleteMy partner snuggles all night without pissing himself.
ReplyDeleteWhat a shame that at Trendy Carols the other dogs aren't allowed the same cuddles as Mary. All dogs deserve cuddle time, they thrive on it. As we do.
Dorothy and Winnie are comfortable enough on the sofa in carols conservatory . The bulldogs don’t get on with carol’s wire haired fox terrier
DeleteWe all need a cuddle at times. xx
ReplyDeleteAin’t that the truth
DeleteWhat a relief the title refers to the dog. I feared for a moment you were setting up a more personal service.
ReplyDeleteI doubt many would pay me to provide a cuddle or any extras for that matter
DeleteThat is a service that a lot of us (me included) need.
ReplyDeleteIt’s a win win service
DeleteWhat a charming photo of you and Mary! Sweet Mary does provide a much needed service, doesn't she?
ReplyDeleteOur beloved basset hound Daisy loved to snuggle day or night. She took turns sleeping with our sons, too, and kept track of whose turn it was. She could also count to four and did bed checks to see if each of us was in place before she joined one of our boys.
Hugs!
The photo breaks my heart in a good way
DeleteMary is providing a valuable public service in these difficult times!
ReplyDeleteShe has a big heart
DeleteLend your dog is a lovely thing to do xx
ReplyDeleteI get envious
DeleteRent a dog.
ReplyDeleteI’d be rich if I did...ok richer
DeleteSounds like my pug, Lily. Always by my side... snoring loudly! Lovely photo of you and Mary x
ReplyDeleteI couldn’t live without her
DeleteThat's a dramatic thing to say John, of course you will live without her, with grief no doubt, but you will live. Our lives without our constant loyal companions go on.
DeleteIt would break my heart, allow me to say it without contradiction
DeleteMy top dog was put to sleep 2 and a half years ago and I struggle each day to not to see his cheeky face and to cuddle him x
DeleteHow sweet. My pups were all such loves. My hercules... he loves his belly scratches.
ReplyDeleteSo do i
DeleteHow wonderful for those that get Mary's love and for Mary to know such love from so many.
ReplyDeleteSweet photo of you and Mary, you have had so many lovely Terriers in your life John they make wonderful companions.
ReplyDeleteMary is well loved and she clearly returns the love. A very nice trait.
ReplyDeleteI’ve never known a welsh terrier. Sounds like I’ve missed out.
ReplyDeleteOh, lucky village ladies! She's such a pet with her civic duties. And lucky you. x
