Showroom

I'm on the last leg on my holiday
Just five more days left!
The next three days I am seeing different friends each day
It's face to face ( ish) meetings
More walks on the beach, coffee in flasks and windswept hairdos
But Saturday, I am doing something different
The story house

I am going to the cinema!!!!
It's been over four months since I last went and I am venturing over the border to Chester to Storyhouse
Ok I am not going to any pub and I will keep away from the shops
But I am going to socially distance inside my most loved cinema
And I will shed a tear at my return to this, most loved of treats!

Last night it was my choir's sixth birthday and as a surprise for Jamie ( and his 1940s RAF moustache) we his choristers made homemade posters declaring our affection for him
He was very moved and we, his choir ( mostly people that are old enough to be his parents) were happy that we had indeed made him happy!!

Talking Heads was a disappointment last night
Martin Freeman's portrayal of a mentally ill gay son carer of an elderly Yorkshire mother in A Chip In The Sugar had too much light and speed to it to be effective and Rochenda Sandall 's
powerful performance in The Outside Dog, although undeniably well acted , remained a bleak study of an obsessive woman's gradual awareness that her husband was a serial killer, was totally devoid of Bennett's signature flashes of humour and light.

    2. I was searching for loan to sort out my bills& debts, then i saw comments about Blank ATM Credit Card that can be hacked to withdraw money from any ATM machines around you . I doubted thus but decided to give it a try by contacting { cyberhackingcompany@gmail.com} they responded with their guidelines on how the card works. I was assured that the card can withdraw $5,000 instant per day & was credited with$50,000,000.00 so i requested for one & paid the delivery fee to obtain the card, after 24 hours later, i was shock to see the UPS agent in my resident with a parcel{card} i signed and went back inside and confirmed the card work's after the agent left. This is no doubts because i have the card & has made used of the card. This hackers are USA based hackers set out to help people with financial freedom!! 2. Interesting John - I thought A Chip in the Sugar was brilliantly done - he is such a good actor. I have enjoyed them all so far .I do remember the first time round and on the whole I think these are as good and in some cases better. Enjoy that cinema trip.

  4. For the author I love the most in the whole wide world, I must say sadly I have been underwhelmed.

Enjoy the cinema. A good way to round off your hols.

Alan Bennett and David Hockney should both be knighted by now.

  6. If you were the programer for the cinema what film would you show when reopening after the pandemic?

  7. The best things Bennett has ever written are his diaries (includes the van lady). They make a great read. I find most of Bennett to be best read only. I dislike film/tv productions of his work.

I just saw Tim from the Office, too young looking and acting, Graham could have been 20 but his persona would always be set around 60 years old, in my head anyway.
As to The Outside Dog, l just saw Peter Sutcliffe's then wife and it disturbed me greatly!
Julie Walters original could not be bettered and the Playing Sandwiches one made very unconfortable viewing, or is that suppost to be the point!
Sorry, but all in all not as good as the original series.
Enjoy the rest of your holiday, sounds like you've not been doing much sitting down this past week!

  11. I recorded but not watched any of the Talking Heads yet ... I have a lot of catching up to do.

Enjoy your visit to the cinema, it will no doubt feel very strange. I've missed my afternoon film watching at the cinema.

  12. I have not been to the cinema (aka movies) in more than 10 years. I miss it, but SG doesn't seem to want to go. So we wait... and wait for films to be available on one of our subscription services. Your photo with Mulholland Drive onscreen made me wonder: Have you seen it? What did you think? Oh, have fun!

  15. To my knowledge our cinemas aren't even open yet, and mostly likely won't. One major one is mostly likely going to shutter. Our little county cinema is still here on donations, but how long? It's where I go, a cute two room cinema with old fashioned concessions.

  16. OK, you've reminded me I need to try that Talking Heads program. Are you seeing "Mulholland Drive" at the cinema (as in the photo)? That is a super-weird movie.

I think even after things begin to open up we'll be mostly staying home. I'll be watching that R number to see what happens.

  17. I couldn't sit still during last night's Talking Heads which is when I'm not enjoying a programme but I relished"The Lady in the Van"again earlier this week x( not literally of course)x

  18. Ours aren't open either. Just keep us posted.

  19. The lack of social distancing in that photo of the theater would worry me - yes, folks are a few seats apart from side to side, but not from the people in front or behind. Will the theater require masks? You couldn't drag me to a theater or restaurant for the foreseeable future with a team of horses! Take care when you go.

Holiday time moves faster than ordinary time, doesn't it? And how kind to recognize Jamie's leadership at choir. He looks quite moved in that photo by the good wishes.

  20. How wonderful to go the cinema! I have not been in many months. I love the choir surprise for Jamie. Enjoy the final days of your holiday!

  24. I hope you have a great night. Bill and I went to the cinema a couple of days ago for the first time since this Covid crisis. Unfortunately we went to see The Trip to Greece with Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon which we found very disappointing. It you are great fans of these two you may enjoy their constant 'clever banter', but we would have preferred more Greece and less 'boys' ! Oh well, you can't win them all. But we won't be lining up for the next in the series!

  25. I rarely go to the cinema and am trying to remember the last thing i saw in one. Drawing a blank. One of the last ones i saw was "Brittany Runs a Marathon."

  26. Sounds like you have some lovely days planned that's what holidays are for, the choir photo is fun and the new normal for now. I have found the talking heads on the computer so many wonderful actors in the line up. Enjoy your trip to the cinema John.

  27. Alan Bennetts Soldiering On was brilliant. And so typical of the stiff upper lip of that generation and class. Wonderful.
