My Best Friend's Wedding

Late last night I received an email from two old friends
The email was titled
" We Will Meet Again "
It was short and to the point

"So we keep being told........I bloody hope so.
Thinking of you .... keep safe xxxxxx
Ruth & Dale

Sometimes you don't always say what you want to in a reply. especially with people you are not normally demonstrative with...
But last night I was suddenly  reminded of that scene in My Best Friends wedding when old friends  Julia Roberts and Dermot Mulroney talk about love

Michael O'Neill:
Kimmy says if you love someone you say it, you say it right then, out loud. Otherwise the moment just...
Julianne Potter:
Passes you by...

I wrote back something I wouldn't normally say after my first serious line of  " You two keep Safe", I added
" I love you guys !"

And moments later came the one word answer

" Ditto x"

It's a time to be honest

  4. I keep thinking that I should write letters to my son and daughter, my brothers and special friends - to be opened after my death. When COVID 19 strikes it might be too late to say goodbyes.

    4. No - say things to them now while you can. We are not particularly demonstrative but a few years ago a major "thing" happened to our family that could have easily ripped us apart. Luckily it didin't - it brought us closer and since then I have made sure to tell people how much I love and appreciate them. When the social distancing started my daughter who is an NHS nurse and lives 30 or so miles away was worried that if any of us became ill and died then we wouldn't have the chance to say goodbye. I told her that it isn't the ending that matters so much as what went before and reminded her of all the happy times we have spent together (even though we can also drive each other to distraction). So although I would never wish to repeat what happened to us, in a way a lot of good came out of it because we never miss the opportunity to say "I love you". So write the letters but send it now.

  7. Yes, we should all be more free to tell people they are loved.

  8. I learned long ago to say what I feel to loved ones when I see them for you never know what the future holds.

  9. In my family and with my close friends, "I love you" is always said before we part. That's just the way it is. Because you never really know, do you? And don't we all want to be remembered as saying, "I love you" as the last thing we said to someone?

  10. In my family we have always been quite open with our feelings for one another but only as I was much older did I become more vocal with my fondness for others,at times people have looked quite embarrassed-I think they like it though x and John you are so loved and are loving, you radiate love x

  11. I am a hugger and quite vocal with my feelings for people...I found it odd that when I met my partner he never told his Mum he loved her... when he started to say it to her she was very moved and a bit shocked I think. I say I love you to all of the family and friends of mine. Because I do genuinely love them all; that's why I chose people I find easy to love.

  12. I do this already with family but now is a good time to extend it to friends as well. I think there's some good coming from this crisis, not just the unholy panic and tragic deaths.

  13. Absolutely! Never miss an opportunity to tell those you care about how important they are in your life. We live in uncertain times and this is not the time to hold back words that will mean so much to them and to you also.

    Ditto works.

  14. Strange - or maybe not so - that it takes a situation as threatening as this to unwrap honesty.

  15. This sentiment was expressed so poignantly last night in our local paper by a man who has just lost his wife to Covid. Tell people you love them before it's too late.

  18. One of my nearest and dearest friends has very little family left and I make a point of telling her that I love her with every phone call. I don't think she hears it from anyone else and I want her to know that she is important and beloved.
