A Dog For All Seasons

I got up in a right grump this morning
I had florid dreams about a whole new cast of The Walking Dead and how they were fighting in a brave new world.
Covid related no doubt.
Last night I wasted too many hours of TikTok videos .
It's a new phenomenom to me.
Entertaining but vapid
I feel somewhat unsatisfied today

And so I've kept busy. The little yellow chair in my little yellow living room was marked and needed a shampoo. I had covered it but Mary's in season spotting had found its target and it was bloodstained
In a divorce you don't get maintainance for the pets!
And any spare money has had to be put towards solicitors' fees rather than spent on a bitch's hysterectomy which is something not covered by insurances, so it has taken me months to put aside a few hundred pounds towards the operation costs, an operation booked for the beginning of this month.

After washing the upholstery I spent a satisfying hour cutting Mary's hair on the garden wall.
Great lumps of Black and Tan fur wafted up the lane like miniature tumbleweeds only to be snapped up by the wood pidgeons and hedge sparrows who are busy nesting in the Churchyard .

Dogs hate having their hair cut.

I always think that they look guilty or shamed

Apparantly the Church bell's mechanism is stuck fast , so there will be no ringing of it tomorrow evening unless it can be freed up. A couple of the villagers are looking into the borrowing of a long ladder.

I've cleaned the car, made bread and after my sister dropped off some sweat pea seedlings, and bedding plants did some gardening with the cottage windows wide open in order to hear the dulcet tones of Paul Schofield in A Man For All Seasons running on Sony classics

  1. I always think how good you are at flower arranging John - second career there?

  2. Hi! Just happen to stop by your blog. Hi to your dog. My dog, Daisy, seems to not like haircuts and baths too. She's an 89 pound Lab, so imagine the mess when we give her a bath.

Love the flowers, I bet the lilies smell wonderful.

  3. Oh my, I was introduced to Tik Tok by my young adult children. I found I had to just stop it cold turkey. The repetitive songs were getting stuck in my brain and it was actually messing with my sleep (as well as weird dreams since this whole business began). Mary does look a little forlorn after her haircut! Beautiful flowers, though!! -Jenn

  8. Been through that TikTok videos phase. It's so addictive. Crazy. And I could easily go back to it but, it's like with playing games, I go hard into it... So instead, I just don't.

  9. There is something quite satisfying about dematting a dog. I get the same feeling when I finish a puzzle.

John, please be aware that Lily pollen is fatally toxic for cats. I read of a much loved cat which brushed against a Lily then groomed itself.Sadly it couldn't be saved.

Oh, poor Mary! Our dogs all have that hang-dog look when their collars are off. The shame!

The flowers are all so pretty so you must have a natural gift to "bung em in" so artistically.

I've never heard of TikTok and it sounds from comments as if that's for the best.

    Happy Earth Day!

    Hugs!

  13. I just wondered how old Mary is John and has she had puppies? My lily had been spayed when I got her from the Dogs Trust but very occasinally spots but the vet said it was not an infection and that she had possibly only been partially spade. As she is around 10 ish now it's just wait and see if any problems arise.I think my thatch may now be a Welsh terrier and not a lakeland after all-yet again he has almond eyes.My dreams are very vivid at the moment and I wake knowing Very important facts but soon after they have slipped out of my fuddled brain-never mind x( sorry to be a party pooper but I just wonder if you have heard that cats shouldn't rub their fur against the pollen on lillies stamem as if they lick it off their fur its bad for them-you can just nip the stamem off)x

    1. The original plan ( my ex husband's and not really mine) was to have a set of puppies with Mary.
And no she hasn't had any puppies
Ideally she should have been spayed three years ago

  17. John, please cut the stamens off on the lilies. They are very poisonous to cats and dogs if they happen to ingest it.

They are beautiful and are one of my favorite flowers.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Also, pulling off the pollen packets on the stamens makes the flowers last longer.

  19. I get such a kick out of TikTok. Have you seen @olivercrlke? He's adorable and a great dancer. Always looks like he's having a ball.

I wonder if there's an animal charity that would spay Mary at a reduced cost? We had Olga spayed (through the organization we adopted her from) at an animal charity and it didn't cost us a thing.

  24. In US i went through an organization called "friends of animals" you have to use one of the vets that they approve but the cost is a whole lot less. I would hope that there is something like that in your country. anyway i must take this opportunity to say thanks again for taking the time to blog - i enjoy your posts more than you know. take care of yourself.

  28. The flower pics look great! And you reminded me...I need to cut Murphy's hair myself since I cannot take him to the groomer. This is a task I dread.

  29. Walking Dead isn't filming right now. Their crew has all been laid off. Though the governor of the state they film in has just opened up nail salons and massage parlors who use proper distancing techniques. I can't imagine a distancing technique at a massage parlor. It boggles my imagination. Though I'm pretty sure Gov. Kemp will make sure his masseuse will be six feet away. Yeah, that's unlikely.
