You can just see my grandfather clock against my yellow walls
I remembered the " Applause the NHS " initiative at the last minute and went outside into the cold and the dark with the girls to see if anything would happen.
My village has not even a dozen streets, but the applause started subtly echoing around the houses and cottages and dark lanes politely and hesitant at first. and I joined in as I stood near London road with tears in my eyes as voices and calls of " Thank You John!" Came sweetly out of the darkness.
How wonderful John. And thank you to all NHS workers and front line essential workers who are keeping us all safe and well. Massive love to everyone. I love the NHS!
ReplyDeleteIt was lovely to thank everyone in such a way x
DeleteThank You John Gray for being a wonderful man who radiates such Happiness and Love xx
ReplyDeleteHow lovely. I also thank you for all you do and all you are.
ReplyDeleteThe roads around here had loads of neighbours clapping. Thanks to every key worker.
ReplyDeleteI didn't expect such a reaction , just given our physical distance between houses, I was wrong
DeleteIt was truly heartwarming.
DeleteThat’s so lovely! Thank you to you and all your colleagues. My street clapped and cheered. Really lovely to see my neighbours at their windows xx

DeleteI was out walking in my village, the only person out, and was unaware that it was the time for this event. Silence reigned, all doors closed and all windows empty except one man standing in his lit doorway, silently. I wondered why he was there. About to have a smoke perhaps. Now I wonder if he was awaiting an event that didn't happen. Oh well.
ReplyDeleteOh that deflated me
DeleteThere were fireworks here
DeleteSorry, but true.
Delete😔
DeleteTears in my eyes too. Thank you John - and all your colleagues. Worldwide.
ReplyDeleteI applaud you, too, John!!
ReplyDeleteWe need to applaud and cherish each other
DeleteAngel.
ReplyDeleteXx
DeleteApplause to all who help us keep on keeping on and to all who are doing their best not to spread this virus, by staying home, washing hands, and trying to stay as cheerful as possible. We're all in this together.
ReplyDeleteLong distance hugs all around!
So touching! And you, and all healthcare workers everywhere, deserve our appreciation and thanks!
ReplyDeleteI'm not the front line... the ones that are need our love xx
DeleteThere were people letting off fireworks here instead of applauding, lasted about ten minutes. Very touching.
ReplyDeleteWasn't it?
DeleteThis is the very best thing I've read in days.
ReplyDeleteA lovely country wide initiative !!!!
DeleteSo touching, thank you to all healthcare staff. Lovely to see our neighbours out clapping. Thought especially of our daughter in law's sister who works in ITU in the West Midlands, keep safe Laura x
ReplyDeleteThinking of you John :-)
ReplyDeleteI love this. There are many special people out there to thank now, and yes you are definitely one of them John. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteThis was a message from chic eleanor
ReplyDelete[26/03, 20:10] : Harri and I just been outside 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 for the NHS !!! Could hear all the village too ! ♥️♥️♥️ how are you darling John ? Xx
[26/03, 21:37] John: Better for thisx
xx
ReplyDeleteI clapped my heart out in Tennessee, a huge thank you to all health care workers.
ReplyDeleteThank you dear John
X
Thank you dear jo x
DeleteWhat a lovely initiative and very moving I can imagine. I am thankful to health care workers and I am just as thankful for those who toil in grocery stores - their regular workloads have increased and so has their risk. Some jobs you go into knowing there will be risks but did any of us truly foresee that stocking shelves at the local grocery would be one of them??
ReplyDeleteExactly ..for once we have seen the worth in everyone
DeleteWhat a lovely moment!
ReplyDeleteOops. My eyes welled up. What a nice thing to do.
ReplyDeleteIt was special...And nice.....WE ARE SHORT OF BOTH me thinks
DeleteLove this!
ReplyDeleteYes! Totally deserved.
XoXo
A bit of nice in a sea of crap
DeleteThanks to everyone on the frontline .... I cannot imagine what it must be like .... it must come down to who must live ordie ... I clapped until my hands hurt and someone let off fireworks..... I’m crying now. XXXX
ReplyDeleteX
DeleteClapping here for you and all the Health Workers from the Arizona Desert !
ReplyDeleteparsnip xx
ReplyDeleteGreetings from Aotearoa John, Lockdown here but as we are farmers and live on a no exit road I don't have to be confined to the house, I have been for a walk in the rain this morning. The farmer pretty much carries on with his work as there is always plenty to do. I do hope that you and yours are staying safe, and yes, take the pups out after dark, a bit of exercise before bed does you good.
Now you got me in tears.
ReplyDeleteI hope you plan to hold me now.
Any day x
DeleteThe NHS and its staff are so well beloved in this country. I am not a Theist but I like to imagine an afterlife where Nye Bevan is looking down right now and smiling at the fact that the institution he created so no one should go without health care "because of want of means" is more important now than it was when he created it.
ReplyDeleteHow beautiful! ❤ I feel so thankful for all the people around the world putting their own safety on the line to help others. Thank you for sharing this John.
ReplyDeleteThank you John! You may not realize that you are providing a service to all of us readers who come to your blog for a bit of fresh air, so to speak.
ReplyDeleteI didn't leave a comment on your previous post, because I thought it would be lost. But we are lucky here to have a houseful (though that's a mixed blessing), with 3 kids, 3 adults, 1 dog, and 1 cat. We are lucky to have wooded surroundings and nearly traffic-free roads to walk along and enjoy some nature. And we are lucky to be able to afford to hunker down. I've had a few freak-out days obsessively taking my temperature, but it's been a week since I self-quarantined, and I'm feeling safer every day.
One nurse to another, nice to be recognized.
ReplyDeleteCheers for you and all there from Los Angeles! It's wonderful to see so many people and businesses around here doing what they can for all the helpers! xo
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet imitative. And, Thank You, John!
ReplyDeleteSplendid! Thank you, John.
ReplyDeleteOh how wonderful John, thank you and all the wonderful people who put others needs before their own, bless you. Glad your village came out with a cheer John you are loved.
ReplyDeleteI am clapping loudly, John, can you hear me? Thank you for what you and all your fellow medical personnel do. You are the heroes, and actually have always been.
ReplyDeleteYou are SO LUCKY to be where you are. My three favorite trips in my life were The Cotwolds, Wales, and Scotland.
ReplyDeleteChicago...ugh!
Well done to you, and all other nurses. I'm clapping in spirit.
ReplyDeleteJayGee, just to let you know that I've just posted my own blog on this subject, and referenced your very own here. You were high in my thoughts last night. XXXX
ReplyDeleteLiving on a very short road with five houses, two of them empty airbnb, I thought I would feel silly doing it! I am sorry now reading your post that I didn’t. It doesn’t matter how I felt, it would have shown I cared, it goes without saying I do... but still!?! Sorry, sorry, sorry!
ReplyDeleteLXX
Reading this brought a lump to my throat and tears to my eyes. Thank you John. X
ReplyDeleteI've not seen a peep out of my neighbours for weeks. At 8.00pm the whole street of us were out at our gates clapping. It was wonderful! We could hear cheers and clapping all around and in the distance. Thank YOU John. You are appreciated more than you will ever really know. x
ReplyDeleteSo glad your villagers clapped John, it was emotional here, lots of clapping and whooping ! Xx
ReplyDeleteStood outside and clapped on my own - but a couple of the local farmers set off their bird scarers/gas guns, they reverberated nicely on the trees and hills then washed back over our tiny village. A heartfelt Lincolnshire thank you.
ReplyDeleteGosh, I just teared up reading that … how wonderful.
ReplyDeleteThe clapping echoed almost silently across our great expanse of hillside, we heard our nearest neighbours joining in and they heard us ... but what was wonderful was seeing all the houses on the opposite side of the valley to us lit up like a chain of fairy lights.
A brilliant moment and a fitting tribute to all on the frontline of the NHS and all the other branches of medicine at the moment.
Nicely written x
DeleteWe do not have any such organization in our neighborhood. It is every man for himself here.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful initiative. Thank you John for all you are doing and always do! To all the Health Services folks everywhere who are sacrificing so much for us all, thank you from the bottom of my heart. Lynne (in Alberta)
ReplyDeleteThank you, John, not only for the care you give to those you nurse and those in your village, but to all of us who get so much from your blogs. Bless you!
ReplyDeleteThank you for you dedication.
ReplyDeleteI was out banging my frying pan - and thank you John and so many like you who do their job so well, but also for being in blogland sharing and keeping us cheery.
ReplyDeleteAwww, John. You’re so sweet. Thank you from Southern Oregon USA.
