Choir

Nearly half of the choir turned up on Zoom at 6.30pm
and as the video shows the whole affair was a bit like hearding cats.
Poor Jamie and his .1940s RAF moustache, he had a big job on his hands

As it turned out it was the exact tonic that I think we all needed.
In an hour and a half we sang just three songs
But we laughed and laughed and giggled the experience away as unfamiliar hands cocked up video streams and Gill from Dyserth chomped her way a rather large chocolate wagon wheel.
Bemused husbands sat next to their spouses, and dogs and cats jumped up in front of the camera, and cups of tea appeared next to piles of choirsheets in Welsh country kitchens that have seen limited humour and laughter over this past long week.

Our final song was You Raise Me Up , and as we sang , we all swayed dramatically from side to side, free of the confines of the real choir room in the village hall and it felt, powerful and emotional and good.

I hope that through this fucking corona virus disaster, we all will reconnect with what's so important in life

Our.....simple......smiling.......caring.......humanity

  1. We were quite orderly in our Zoom class. It sounds like it went quite well in the end, must have felt a bit weird singing in the kitchen though.

  6. As a perennial homebody, I am actually enjoying my self-quarantine (aside from worrying I could die, and all that.) Of course, I have a houseful to catch up and keep up with. Will you be reporting to work next week?

  8. Very uplifting - just what we all need. That last sentence says it all.

  9. Fantastic! The "middles" as opposed to the "olds" (us) and the "littles" (their kids) set up zoom meetings for the littles that have named themselves the Shenanigans Club! It's been hilarious for all of us to see them carrying phones or iPads around while they share time together!

  13. I think it's great Zoom could bring all your voices together. It's a tool that my pal's kids' school is using to keep the 'classroom' going. I had the good fortune of being able to 'conference call' old uni chums using Zoom as well. Great tool for these isolating times.

Superb! What could be better, safer, and more fun all at the same time? Loved the video and the laughter. A well needed tonic.

    Sweet dreams!

    Hugs!

  17. Its times like this I'm so sad my mum has never got the hang of modern technology. At 86 she struggles to use a mobile phone never mind anything else. My husband set up an old mobile for her to be able to watch videos we had of my dad singing before he died but no matter how often we show her how to access them she forgets as soon as we've gone. We've tried writing it down for her too but she struggles to use the screen. It would be so useful for her just now when she feels very alone and we can only visit sporadically to check on her. Isn't technology wonderful when used properly. xx

baby boomers are getting put in retirement homes now where they are getting abused, neglected, and treated badly by the retirement home nurses. Maybe you boomers shouldn't have destroyed your children's lives by being shitty parents? Millennials are NOT going to help you boomers. Enjoy your retirement homes, boomer scum! Oh and screw you boomer, i am NOT staying home! I will enjoy my life!

  22. I was looking forward to seeing Hattie. Would it be possible to post a few more pictures of Hattie? Hattie on a sofa with Mrs Trellis would be even better.

It is good that there was laughter. As you say, it has been in short supply recently.

  24. Singing while eating a wagon wheel is my sort of choir, alright I can’t sing but can certainly polish off a wagon wheel. When can I join?

Love your last sentiment, could agree more.

Wonderful. I sing with two choirs but neither has organised anything like this. I am missing the singing in company. Loved it when someone asks 'has soandso 'arrived' yet' shows how much you felt that you were actually meeting together.
Any chance of another vid with some singing?
Your blog brightens my day even when you are in serious mood. thank you

  27. My family has gotten together via Zoom, and I've had a book club meeting via Zoom, too. It doesn't always go perfectly, but it's wonderful, still. Loved seeing this snippet of your choir meeting.

It's absolutely brilliant to do a choir rehearsal on it … lots of fun and a great way for everyone to stay even more connected than usual.
