Last Will & Testament

I'm sat in the solicitors
Not my divorce solicitors
But another, more local one
I'm just about to amend my will

I'm working out who to leave my fortune to
The solicitor's clerk has just made me an Americano and offered me a Danish pastry

I feel strange

  1. Good luck. It gets easier. I change my Will about once every three years. It becomes quite fun. Enjoy the coffee and the Danish. Have you got your Absolute yet?

      Not of my doing either

    2. Put some pressure on. Courts don't like dragging and start asking questions.

  2. As the solicitor's clerk just offered you a Danish pastry you should leave your fortune to him...or is it a her? It is odd that you agreed to becoming an Americano - thought you were happy being a Taff.

  3. Try and make it fun and not dwell on the reason for making it. Throw in a few surprises just to keep them wondering. xx

  4. It is a wise move. We all should write a will. And have an Americano and some pastries. That's the order of things.

    XOXO

  5. we had our wills created last year. obviously, we leave our vast holdings ($5) to each other. if not, a charity of our choice. it's not morbid to do this. we also had advance directives created, so that sickness wishes will be carried out.

  8. I don't think an Americano and a Danish pastry is enough to warrant leaving everything to your solicitor's clerk … I'd hold out for free legal advice for life off the actual solicitor if it were me ;-)

  9. A smart thing to do... which reminds me, we need to do our Spanish wills. Our American ones won’t apply.

  10. Leave it all to the dogs.

  11. Just remember you don't need to do it today and can demand thinking time. You've had a tough year [well, more than a year] and don't have to rush. I remember redoing my will post divorce brought me to tears - which is probably why I'm being a bit sentimental here. Hugs. Jxx

After some serious bequests, leave some money for a slap up celebration of your life for all those wonderful people who have supported you through good times and bad. Plus, of course, a small trust fund for scotch eggs to be eaten each year in your memory! Pollie

Don't forget to choose who gets which of your heartwarming art collection.

I deduced that Americano is coffee but cannot imagine why it's called that. Any explanation?

    Hugs!

    1. An Americano is a shot of espresso combined in a larger cup with hot water. I believe it's called an Americano because it resembles brewed coffee, which most Americans drink.

    2. At my Italian class last week we were told that the name Americano came from the WWII when the American GIs in Italy ordered a coffee, as you describe Steve, and the name caught on and has remained in use ever since.

    3. Oddly Rachel my dad was Italian but insisted on only drinking Camp coffee which wasn't even coffee at all x

    4. My father drank Camp coffee too. I think it was a British Army thing in WWII. Revolting stuff.

Sorry to but in; I made a will after my parents death and haven't needed to change it since. At the moment I have a very poorly elderly dog who I will have to say goodbye to shortly - I am so distraught about this but know it is for the best.

  23. Dont feel strange. Think of it as your act of saving your loved ones problems. My will is very detailed and has all of my funeral arrangements in it as I want it done my way and no one elses. I also have a funeral bond. its not strange it is clever.

  25. We finally updated our wills, Power of Attorneys, etc. this summer. All our lawyer offered was a very bad cup of coffee - and he totally messed up the first version of the will, made it ridiculously complicated. To read it, you'd have thought we had some huge estate with all kinds of different assets! The sister I had as executor died in 2017 so we were way over-due for the up-date.

    1. I got the necessary forms and typed up my own, took it to the credit union and had it notarized and made copies for my kids! Easiest way to do it and not paying some over-priced attorney!

  27. I have done mine 2 years ago. Also made it very clear what had to happen with my pets! Hope you can make sure your dogs will never be put in a dogs home . It felt weird making the will also because I'm estranged from my siblings and no partner, so I've assigned a professional to do all the work.
