Amélie & Fucking Cat City

One of my all time favourite movies is Amélie
I adore it.
It's my go to movie, when I need a sob and a smile.

Today my sister Janet and I went to Liverpool to see the new musical version of the Jean Pierre Juneau classic and surprisingly it was almost as charming and sweet as I remember the film was.
With all of Amélie's Montmartre friends on stage at any one time, the extraordinary talented cast play a selection of instruments to accompany the songs which more or less exactly follows the film's plot to the letter, and I must admit Audrey Brisson gave the Queen Audrey Tautou a run for her money in the title role.
The famous kissing scene where Amélie finally meets the geeky Nino ( Chris Jared) had the whole theatre audience holding its breath and was just as tear jerking as it was on film.
I cried buckets.
It was quite quirky, innovative and charming
It was also quite lovely

Afterwards we did some shopping at John Lewis ( new cutlery for me) then went to the Cat Cafe for tea! Now the cat cafe is not quite my cup of tea, but It WAS an experience to be sure.
Set on three floors on Bold Street it is a cafe that is the home to 17 pedigree free roaming  cats.
A minute after a rather impressive caramel cake and flat white arrived, so did the cats, arseholes winking in my face nicely as they climbed quite merrily over every surface in search of a lick of cream

Everywhere I looked there was a fucking cat!
I know ...duh.......
The cat cafe !

I'm lucky to have sisters I enjoy the company of !!

    2. I disliked the poster with her staring into the camera with her big, gooey eyes. It put me off the film.

  9. I'm glad that you both enjoyed the show but your description of the cat cafe still has me laughing out loud what an unusual situation to be in no use complaining that you found a hair in your coffee John.

  10. Word of technical advice (again): If you type 'anders amp' into the title, it will appear as '&' to the rest of us. Carry on (Nurse).

Amelie is one of my favorite movies, too. Sorry, I don't know how to add accent marks, but you get the gist of what I said.

I love cats, but don't think I'd enjoy the Cat Cafe. Our 2nd cat died in January, but just Tuesday DH had to get a cat hair clog out of the shower. I shudder to think how it got there.

    Hugs!

  15. A few years ago I went for lunch in a restaurant that had a cat. The very pleasant creature spent the whole time on my lap.

    1. That happened to me too once, in Amsterdam. My companion - NOT a cat-lover - kept urging me to remove it, which I ignored. What was almost as nice was that the waitress, recognising that it was doing the reverse of troubling me, never asked if I wanted it taken away. It snoozed on without disturbance. Lovely.

  16. Another 'Amelie'-lover here.
No need to tell you my attitude towards cats. If I ever had the good fortune to visit a cat cafe I'd stay there until I died. It would, in any case, be the equivalent of going to Heaven. Purrrrrrr - purrrrrrrr!

  17. Hell I'd have walked in that café and then straight back out. Urgh, who wants a cat on their table. A friend who was a wonderful cook invited a few of us round for dinner one time. When she was out of the room the bloody cat jumped on the table and started licking the cheese. My eyeballs stood out on stalks and I thought my friend's husband was going to throw it through the window. He didn't but …. and this friend has lupus and is seriously ill. I can't help thinking having her cats lick her food and her various wounds from broken skin etc (falls down a lot) can't be good for her. Comfort maybe but ...

  19. I love cats, but don’t do well when they have their butts on tables where I eat! Would love to see Amelie on stage. A magical film.

  20. LOVED the movie but the Cat Cafe? Afraid I would have to pass on that. I like cats but not in my face.

  21. Sometimes I feel like I am living in a Cat Cafe.
I arrived here with my little cat that I adopted so I would not be the only living thing in a big silent house all by myself.
The trouble with cats seems to be....you never have just one.
The good thing about cats though, they can be very sympathetic.
Almost as well as a dog.
Which might be my next adventure.

  23. Hi hun, I love that you and your twin sis are so close. I have twin girlies (aged 34)who are identical and are very close. Luckily, their hubbies understand that need for them to be together so often and it's funny when the kiddies get the wrong mumma! hugs goldensunflower x
