  2. . . . . . . how right you are! So why am I, a Brit, living here in North Carolina where it has been almost 100F every day this month?

    Hope it cools off there.
I bet you were 'frig hunting in hopes of finding a chilled Scotch egg!

      I grew up there.
My hate for hot humid weather runs deep.

  4. John, you know I feel your pain! It's hot as hell here in South Carolina and the heat and humidity make me crazy with irritation! I'm not even fit company for myself when it's this hot!

  5. Ice cubes wrapped around your neck !

  6. And it's so much worse when it doesn't even have the decency to cool off at night!! Drink lots of water and I hope you at least have a fan to sit in front of while you're doing paperwork.

  7. It was hot and humid last week but now the days are gorgeous with cool nights.
Once your testicles reach your knees, you know it's too hot! :D

  8. We only hit 25C today and everyone was talking about how lovely and cool it was! We will be back up to 31C by the weekend but feeling closer to 40C with the humidity - and I HATE IT!
It just saps all your energy and all we do is hide from the heat. I know you don't have as much A/C as we do so believe me, you have my sympathies - hang in there.

  9. 40 C here yesterday, and the same forecast for today. It's too darned hot.

  10. You have all my sympathies.

  11. It’s a lovely sunny 20c here in Sydney in the middle of winter. Was 24c yesterday. Our winters are warming up and our government are still climate change deniers.

  13. On the regional news yesterday we saw sunners at Bournemouth beach being asked what they thought of the weather - the majority reply being "Lovely!" or similar. Not one expressed any concern about what's happening. What I do know is that it scares me rigid - and I'm one who won't be around to witness the worst it's going to get.

  15. I hate this heat! I swell up like a big fat slug!!! With the high pollen count I've been sneezing since March too. This weather is hell on earth. OK drama over. :)

  16. A couple of years ago, I ordered a fan.... It was HUGE ! It was so hot last year that I took it into work at the charity shop and customers started doing Marilyn Monroe's flapping dress... What a giggle.

Yesterday was soooo hot, I've bought the pups a pool and a cool mat and am tempted to nick them. Also had the big fan on and watched pups ears flapping.

We had lightning, hail and rain last night. I loved it but husband pulled the windows in as his side of the bed was getting wet. I thought the cool rain coming in was lovely !

  17. We're used to triple digit temperatures here in the Desert, but I really feel badly for all of the places getting crazy hot weather that normally does not and has high humidity as well!

  18. We are just not used to this in this country. At least it isn't supposed to last long. I feel sorry for France (Cro) with their long heat wave.

  19. I feel your pain John, I stood at a wide open window at 2.30 this morning watching the rain illuminated by lightning. As soon as the rain stopped the temperature rose again. Even the dog doesn't want to go for a walk x

  20. At least the rain last night freshened everywhere slightly, but not even close to enough!
I've been told the storms were quite spectacular here on the Wirral, but husband and I slept through the lot! X

  21. Spectacular lightning last night. Not much sleep. Will be good for nothing today.

  22. I agree with you there. So sorry you have to work in it too. It's the humidity that does it for me (asthmatic). Thank God for thick farmhouse walls is all I can say.

  24. I feel your pain. It's due to hit 38 today so I will be staying in - usually taking 3 showers a day - thank god I'm retired. My son got married on 4 July here in France. I started off looking ok but by the time I got to the ceremony my hair looked like I had stuck my finger in an electric socket! Give me spring and autumn any day!

  25. It is too hot...how about getting some of those things you put in coolboxes and putting one in your uniform pocket? I used to work from home at a computer and used to sit (curtains closed!) in my undies, with feet in a bowl of cold water which I changed when it warmed up...might entertain your residents?!

  26. I feel ya! When I was at uni I had a job in a retirement home, the old kind with rooms off corridors and a shared dining room, working in the kitchen where the huge elements on the stove threw off waves of heat into an already hot summer. But, we had a walk in fridge! It was sublime! i'd slip my shoes off and go stand in it and just cool down. It never lasted of course but it was soo good.

  27. I have oedema below the knee in both legs post soft tissue injuries to both ankles over time. When temperatures get above 25 degrees or so, my feet go almost spherical.

I am dreading the next two days.

  28. I take it there’s not a lot of AC around there. I couldn’t take it myself.

  29. i feel your pain! we had that weather for a week and my a/c broke! i hate summer! and the orange wanker in the white house doesn't believe in global warming.

  30. Your meltdown reminded me of some German news during the heatwave blasting mainland Europe a little while ago.

"Heatwaves can cause people to behave in strange ways.

Police in Brandenburg pulled over a sweaty motorbike rider after he’d completely stripped off - because he said he was ‘too hot’. (The funny part, and that's Germans for you, he was wearing his helmet. You may be hot but you want to be safe). He was spotted on a scooter as record-breaking heat swept through parts of Europe this week, with Germany roasting in temperatures of 40C.

This comes as a 32-year-old man in rural Germany ran through the freezer section of a supermarket naked in a bid to cool off."

    Needs must, John.

  34. It has been really hot in Central Virginia, but yesterday it rained all day and the high was a wonderful 68 F. Today it only will get up to 82 F. I am loving the cooler temps.

I'm outside Richmond, VA and yesterday was indeed bliss - 67*F here with lovely rain but today has warmed up a bit much and the humidity is a bother. Unless you're idle and in the shade, of course. Beware of August!

    Hugs!

  36. We here in Nova Scotia were NOT built for for heat and humidity either!! Been very 'heavy' here lately!
    We feel your pain.
