This sounds complicated and the play ROTTERDAM performed at Theatr Clwyd tonight is indeed intricate, witty and at times an incredibly moving exploration of a very complex issue.
The small audience were at their feet at the curtain call

As a mother of a child who is going through transgender therapy I struggle.

DeleteJan Morris's book Conundrum is a wonderful book of her life and being transgender. Born James Morris and trans later to Jan. I recommend it. It is short and beautifully written.

ReplyDeleteIndeed, Ms Moon. One of my nephews identifies as a woman and has started the "process". Some time ago I mentioned this to my mother. Please do laugh at my mother's reply - I did: "Nonsense", she said, "all kids love dressing up". The "kid" in question is in his mid twenties, not loafing about in his mother's high heels like when he was five.
DeleteTo be fair, it is difficult to get your head round it. I do comply with my nephew's wish to call him by his new (female) name but, dare I say it, I expect he will always be my nephew rather than my niece. Or both - given time. Reminds me so much of Chelsea Manning, someone I am inordinately fond of and feel for. As I never knew Manning as a man and if introduced to her now I'd take her as a woman. Interesting, don't you think? Not so easy with a boy I knew as a little boy from the word go and only found his way two decades on.
