No politics, no fighting, no Trump, no Brexit
Yesterday I prepared the cottage interior for its photoshoot
No diva could have received a better makeover
I cleaned for 7 hours solid
I started by cutting the roses from the garden
I shall miss my roses when I go
I planted the above pink ice cream old English rose in 2006 and its never let me down
Even my bedroom had the floorboards waxed and the best linen washed
Albert oversaw the sparebedroom
It looks completely charming.
ReplyDeleteBuy it!
DeleteLooks lime my place in many ways. Very comfy, looks like a home. Any idea where you'll be off to, John?
ReplyDeleteNo mike , not yet xx
DeleteLovely. If I lived there, I'd buy it.....
ReplyDeleteYou did a great job of polishing up, John. Even Winnie looks impressive.
ReplyDeleteSweet and charming! A perfect "cottage" (which is entirely different than what cottage means here - which is a vacation place by a lake or in a wilderness setting).
ReplyDeleteThe bulldog in the pictures definitely adds to the feeling of "hominess". -Jenn
Sure... blame Winnie for the fart smell but we know the truth!
ReplyDeletePlace looks great and no I'm not looking to buy a place.
Your home looks lovely but to me it always does.
ReplyDeleteHope your feeling better.
parsnip xx
Cottage looks lovely John. So sorry has come to this. The roses are gorgeoys too. Roses are my faviurites especially traditional scented ones. Take care xx
ReplyDeleteWell done! It looks fab.
ReplyDeleteWell done on the top and bottom clean, I'm lost for words because my heart is heavy :(
ReplyDeleteHugs,
~Jo
It looks lovely. Why does cleaning for the public seem to involve so much more than everyday cleaning?!
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry your fears of having to sell have come true. I've no doubt you'll make the best of things, but still - a hard thing to do.
P. S. And those roses! My goodness, they are gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteLovely. I'd miss those roses too...they are quite stunning.
ReplyDeleteThe cottage looks very inviting. Your roses are a wonderful touch as well. May this process be as short and pain-free as possible. x
ReplyDeleteIt looks very inviting and the Roses are Beautiful! It's always difficult to sell a Beloved Home, I still miss our Historic Home that we had to Sell four years ago... I had always thought it would be our Forever Home. Good Luck with the expedient Sale of it, bittersweet I'm sure to have to leave.
ReplyDeleteCould you root cuttings from the roses? You could keep them in a pot until you are settled? They are lovely.
ReplyDeleteGreat idea!
DeleteIt is just the way I pictured a British cottage. People will love it.
ReplyDeleteThe wallpaper in the spare room is to die for! (Good idea about the cuttings).
ReplyDeleteBeautiful job! May you get above your asking price!
ReplyDeleteWell done John you have done the cottage proud it's all bitter sweet but no matter what you will no doubt turn your next place into a home and may even have fun doing it, I would dig up those roses and replant them.
ReplyDeleteAll the best wishes are sent your way.
Comox (above) suggests digging-up the rose. My father had a favourite rose (that was named after an ancestor) that he took from house to house. The last time he moved it, a thorn pricked the back of his hand and it swelled like a football.
ReplyDeleteThe cottage looks beautiful. Cosiness sells well.
The cottage is utterly charming, John, I absolutely couldn't bear to leave it if I were you, I'd have to barricade myself in. You have a wonderful ability to make a house a lovely welcoming homely home, so if you do have to move (and I hope some miracle happens to enable you to stay), you will make the next place just as charming and homely. My heart goes out to you xx
ReplyDeleteEverything looks lovely! You've done good and Winnie and Albert make great accents. I love your art wall in the kitchen and that pitcher in the kitchen window is to die for!
ReplyDeleteI know this is hard and I'm so sorry, but I have a feeling that when this door closes there will be another one to open that may just surprise you in a good way.

ReplyDeleteI can see from the pictures you have made the cottage such a warm and cosy place to be what a thought to leave it all though I know you are young enough to start again
ReplyDeleteI know your dogs will be fine but I do worry about Albert he will be lost without his familiar territory to roam in
It looks lovely, and you have made the bricks and mortar into a home. You’ll do the same with the next place that you settle. You can plant more roses. Here’s hoping for a quick sale at a good price. Onward and upward.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful. You just have to keep it gleaming like that now until you get a buyer!
ReplyDeleteLooks lovely. I would live there if I was moving to Wales. So homely.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful.
ReplyDeleteIt's lovely, John, you did a good job there. If I was looking I would be tempted. Houses are selling like hot cakes around here, I think people want to move to the countryside.
ReplyDeleteBlimey, I've never done seven hours solid cleaning in my life. I like to keep the place presentable and that's it. I hope the estate agent is suitably impressed.
ReplyDeleteIt looks lovely, and whatever is meant to be, is meant to be.
ReplyDeleteDo make clear that Winnie and Albert are NOT part of the asking price - nor will they ever be!
ReplyDeleteYou appear to have forgotten three important things when selling a house:-
ReplyDelete1) Fresh coffee bubbling on the hob
2) A loaf of bread baking in the oven
3) A real fire burning
Together, the above will lift bids by ten or fifteen thousand.
Also an onion in boiling water makes it small like homemade soup.
DeleteA bit of cinnamon heated briefly in the oven can create a pleasant aroma.
DeleteIt’s charming, I wish I could move there.
ReplyDeleteA beautiful country cottage (and garden); good grief 7 hours cleaning, I hope you had a large gin and tonic after that.
ReplyDeleteYou really have worked hard there..I hope it pays off.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on a quality job to you...and Albert!
Your home is beautiful, but wherever you settle I'm sure it will be lovely. It's the occupants that make a house a home, especially the furry ones x
ReplyDeleteYou clean up well! Or good? I thought YOU had a makeover. My sister had a makeover at Bloomingdales in the early ‘70s. She was quite a fashionista and came home laughing saying she looked like she just graduated from Clown College.
ReplyDeleteWell done sir - you have surely earnt double Scotch eggs.
ReplyDeleteI can't smell a single bulldog fart, so good job!
ReplyDeleteAs you know I may eventually need to sell up and move but after 20 years here (22 actually) have no idea how to wade through all the "stuff" and the cleaning. You have done a huge job spectacularly well.
ReplyDeleteYou also have gorgeous roses in the perfect colour
Set staging is everything!. I got £10000 more than my neighbours flat sold for. Both similar but i had coffee brewing fresh flowers everywhere. Bottles of moet n chandon stragitically placed in kitchen and garden with chrystal glasses Posh lifestyle magazines everywhere. Cost of poshing up my old flat prob £500. Yep chanel toiletries etc!. But they all went with me 😂
ReplyDeleteIt looks lovely.
ReplyDeletei hope it sells quickly for you. have you started looking for your next place yet?
ReplyDeleteIt all looks gorgeous. Fingers crossed for a quick sale and the start of a new adventure.
ReplyDeleteCozy little house you have there.
ReplyDeleteYour cottage is very welcoming and the roses are a perfect touch. You have a knack for creating a warm home, which you will use when/if you move in future. Here in California I've heard that people put cinnamon sticks in a pot of water and have it simmer on the stove before people come to view a home.
ReplyDeleteIt looks charming and inviting. We are house hunting at the moment, I would be influenced by roses, signs that much loved pets live there and the smell of waxed floors!
ReplyDeleteThe place is looking great. Here's to new beginnings!
ReplyDeleteIt looks beautiful - you're clearly someone who will make a warm loving home wherever you go. Good luck with all of it. The roses are just special!
ReplyDeleteReally nice, comfy, and ready for it's shoot.
ReplyDeleteHow welcoming your lovely home is with the fireplace, the various picture groupings on the walls, and the overall charm complimented by the wonderful views from the windows, and the beautiful garden outside.
ReplyDeleteThe ice cream roses are gorgeous. Oh, for scratch-n-sniff computer screens!
Hugs!
I feel much sadness in these pictures.. :(. The beautiful cottage does you credit though. I hope you get a fantastic price xx
ReplyDeleteOh John - it's so homey and welcoming! Hard to find the right words for it when I feel so badly that you must leave it. Does the furniture go with you? You've made it such a warm, inviting home - I hope it sells without a problem, and that you find your next home just as quickly. Next year this time you'll be all through this ordeal. So many good wishes are with you, all the way!
ReplyDeleteThe roses are fantastic!
It looks lovely and would have thought would sell quickly. Good luck with finding another lovely home xx
ReplyDeleteHappy Belated Birthday!
ReplyDeleteThose roses are exquisite!!
Your cottage looks so pretty and welcoming. I wish you the best and hope it sells soon so you can move onward and upward.
XO
Whay can I say John to add to this. I know we all feel the same. Chin up old thing - you will come out the other side - it all looks lovely.
ReplyDeleteI love, how the place looks.
ReplyDeleteI’m sure you’ll be able to recreate this awesome ambiance anywhere. After all, the main and most important ingredient is you.
XoXo
Your place looks like a comfy place to live. I am sure you will be able to sell it quickly. Cleaning is no fun, but the results are great!
ReplyDeleteMy sister will be thrilled to see that quilt on your bed!
ReplyDeleteIt looks lovely, a real Welsh cottage and cosy home. I hope you get the best price possible. I'll buy an extra lottery ticket this week ... if I win you can be my lifelong tenant . Fingers crossed 🤞
