A Quiet Place

I picked up the oil painting yesterday....the one that I had treated myself to after a trip to the theatre.
It's title is A Quiet Place  and I'm pleased with it .
It's replaced a painting I loved dearly. One of a Bluebell wood and although the colours in my new painting are more muted and almost ethereal, I think I've chosen a lovely substitute.

Storm Gareth is sweeping in. I'm still on holiday
And I am a loss of what to do today.

I really like the colors and the fact that you decided to give it to yourself. Self care is essential.

  3. That is a beautiful painting. This weather is crap; I'm having a Hygge day and I'm going to watch that new television drama Cheat, drink wine and cuddle the dog.

  4. The painting is gorgeous! I like Sue's suggestions about what to do on a stormy day.

  5. Love the painting it's good to treat yourself if I were you I'd just wrap yourself in a nice blanket sit with your dads on the sofa and have a down day doing nothing. I for one am doing just that.

I like the painting you chose. Looking at it, I had a sudden memory of my childhood--my parents had a book -coloured plates of quiet landscapes, and I used to curl up in an armchair and look at my favourite one and daydream for hours. I'd forgotten that completely - that was 70 years ago. I would have liked the bluebell wood scene too. Growing p in Kent and Hertfordshire, the woods near us, a sea of blue are some of the things i miss about England. Jean/Winnipeg

    3. Bake anyways, the cottage will warm up, smell great and then you can keep one or two and give the rest away to someone like Mrs Trellis ? I am looking up low carb baking using different flours. Daughter bakes this way.
      Painting sounds good also.

Arrange your postcard display? I have decided today to make a quilt for a very dear friend who was told yesterday that the oncologist can do no more for her. I want to send her a warm hug - this is the best I can do. S

  11. I love that painting. A stormy day with nowhere to go? I think I'd either do some cleaning (hate it, but it's therapeutic), baking or just snuggle down with a box set. That's kind of my plan for today but I have to visit someone in hospital first.

  13. I didn't know what to do this morning in the rain, so I cleaned the freezer out! Lots of " stuff" that has been in there far too long and gone " funny"..all gone now. Space in the freezer and I feel good having done it! I have my shift at the Oxfam bookshop this afternoon.

  14. It's a lovely painting, I can see why you chose it.

I think I'm going to do something I haven't done for a long time and sit down with a large coffee, a plate of biscuits and one of my favourite films, perhaps Amelie or Chocolat. I'm sure Suky will snuggle up with me and we can forget the wind and rain outside the walls of the Van for a few hours.

  15. Your painting doesn't 'speak' to me, but the important thing is that it did to you. Enjoy it in all it's tranquillity.
I think a good book, cuddles with your dogs and plenty of hot drinks are the order of the day. It's my partners birthday today and I have promised to take him out for sushi, so I am on my way into Manchester and the weather is vile!

  17. Art displayed in our homes should always be a personal choice - pieces we enjoy looking at constantly because they speak to us in a very special way. I'm with you on landscapes, how can one ever get tired of them, and this woodland scene is really lovely.

John, do you have a special wall to hang it? Please don't leave it on top of your radiator if heat could cause damage.

    1. It will be on hold until I know where I will be living so it stays there, the radiator is seldom on

    2. Will you be able to stay there? Or are you wanting to move on, so to speak?

    4. Open up a B&B! One room, provide breakfast and away they go. You control the bookings. Could be useful source income. We found it hard to find places to stay in October, so off season might be the way to go

  19. I have a larger painting very similar to that in our entryway, picked up in an antique shop. Very peaceful. Cuddles with your furry family and movies sound peaceful for a stormy day, too. Try to avoid Twitter if you can?

What a lovely, serene painting and I'm so pleased that it's yours. Hope you find another place in your home to hang the Bluebell Wood painting so you can continue to enjoy it, too.

Turn up the music and dance!

    Hugs!

  23. Amazing how a painting can draw you in - does it remind you of a place or time from memory? It's so calming that I truly understand the desire to walk right into those woods. I hope with all my heart that it will one day soon hang on the walls right there where you are!

  24. We all need A Quiet Place sometimes. Enjoy your lovely picture and make some plans for the time when the sun shines.

  25. I need to make some pate for my mom, she was gifted some local cow liver and adores pate but cannot make it herself (parkinsons). I hate liver but do it for her...Your new painting makes me yearn for warmer weather, it's below freezing still, the woods across the road are like that little scene.....

  32. I'm so pleased you treated yourself to the little painting.

I have been snuggled up on the sofa for hours watching TV and cuddling my puppy feeling like a sledge hammer has hit me as I walked out of my job yesterday.

The rain stopped, the sun came out so puppy and I have been along the cliff top enjoying the fresh air.

  38. Lovely painting, I adore landscape scenes and your painting reminds me so much of the woods close to where I grew up. Nothing similar anywhere near me now. Autumn here and the weather is still very lovely, cool mornings and very warm days. I am away from work grieving an elderly gentleman I help care for..his poor wife is an empty shell at the moment, it is all too much to watch.

  40. That's my kind of painting. Husband would call it 'desolate', but to me, it's peaceful!
I could stand leaning on the tree, front left, with my forehead resting against the trunk, and just 'be' for a while. Yeah, I'm a closet tree hugger!
I want to win the lottery, then I could buy your cottage, and you could be the live in housekeeper, as in, you could keep the house! Cross your fingers! X

I love you're able to socialize so well but it's important to be able at home too , no? Especially during these storms of weather and mind.
