What Are You Doing This Weekend?

We walked a 10 miles round trip to watch the show

Bank holiday weekends can be hell when you are on your own
Been to the " Book Swap " at the village hall
Came away 5£ lighter, two books heavier but did have one of Bridget's " fat bastard "scones ( which rival Auntie Glad's, they really do)
And got a big hug from the velvet voiced Linda from Well Street who I think adores me.
Tomorrow my sister in law and I are going out to lunch then to see the acclaimed The Children's Act
And this afternoon Mary and I are going to walk from Prestatyn to Rhyl to watch the start of the Air Show

  1. Weekends are the worst when alone. But today I have to move the horses so a man with a bobcat can clean out the horse run. Then go to the feed store to fetch corn for the horses and pigs. Then mow grass if the mower doesn't sink in the ground from all this rain. Learning very slowly to be a Jack of all trades. Have a good day John.

Years ago my uncle took his sisters dog out for a walk, way up in the hills of Galloway. The next day he got the lead and shouted for the dog to go a walk, but she went and hid behind the sofa and wouldn't come out.

  19. We have our two year old grandson staying over tonight, so from
about 4-00 this afternoon until 10-30 tomorrow morning everything will be revolving around him. His parents are going for dinner at Picanha in Chester, we three will be having fish fingers, chips and beans!
Tomorrow we'll be up early with small person, with sausages and cheesy pancakes for breakfast. When he's gone home, I think it will be 'collapse and recover' for the rest of the day!
As for Monday, I have some skirts and trousers cut out, so it will be a sewing day! Husband will be visiting his idiot father, then vanishing into his workshop to continue building a castle/fort for small person!
Hope your weekend is great, different, but great! X

Nothing planned, husband's painting the hall wall and I should be doing more photograph sorting, but I need a long rest from it. When my daughter was a baby I was told by someone to take as many photographs of her as I could as she will grow up so fast. Wish I'd never taken so many! Now it's a case of choosing one over the other which is hard.

Enjoy your weekend John, sounds more exciting than mine.

  28. I spent a rainy morning in the polytunnel weeding ... there's something rather lovely about being under the polythene with the rain beating down ... now I have claimed the computer for an hour or two after Alan has finished his office work for the day.

Tonight we are off over the road to the evening wedding reception of our neighbours at the campsite. Again under cover, although canvas this time, as they had the foresight to arrange a marquee for their planned open air wedding.

Tomorrow will be doggy walks to make up for leaving them tonight, lots of grass cutting if it's dry enough, followed by a lazy afternoon/evening in front of the television with a film or box set. Monday it's all systems go getting this place tidied up a bit inside and out, the rain has given us a jungle of plants everywhere. The hedge was being trimmed nicely yesterday until Alan cut through his newly erected fencing wire with the hedge trimmer, then the fence took the last hour before it rained to fix.

Bank Holiday weekends are just the same as any other days for us, except the roads are busier and the tourists go sooooo slow on our bendy, windy roads so that getting anywhere takes ages ... and if we need anything we have to remember the shops shut earlier.

Now I'm off to make some 'fat bastard' scones ... you've got me drooling :-)

  32. I'm dog-sitting a friend's miniature dachshund. Her name is Lilli. Lilli recently got into a terrible fight with a raccoon. The raccoon won. Full of awful puncture wounds, Lilli is laying-low recuperating. Poor baby was only protecting hearth and home. She and I will take it easy this weekend.

    2. I thought it was a few puncture wounds. No, oh no. Two large gashes on her little back. Wounds that must be thoroughly cleansed morning and night with a special application from the vet. And when I say "thoroughly cleansed", it disgustingly means removing any scabs trying to form (something about wanting to keep that area free and open so that new skin can form from the outer edges). She doesn't seem to mind this brutality ;-) but jeez Louise I'm glad when it's done. A nurse I'm not. Animals are amazing and seem to know we're trying to help them, and she's certainly a precious understanding little pup. It's the nurse who's unraveling.

  34. I have spent all day making bacon butties, mugs of tea and chocolate brownies for the man and woman who are cutting down the huge conifer hedge at the front of my home. It's completely dead inside with just a couple of inches of greenery on the outside, making nit impossible to trim back. It was overhanging the pavement by about 2 feet. 3 trunks down, 4 still to go. Removal and clearing up will now be next week as the whole operation has taken much longer than thought.
Oh and I have been looking after 2 grandchildren (ages 12 and 7) while it was going on. Woe is me! Another visit to the cash machine is necessary.

  35. Chilling a bit this weekend, the holiday here isn't until next week. Had a busy week, working outside, weekly shopping, day at the hospital getting plasmatheresis on my husband (a three weekly occurrence to keep him moving as his doc says) and a funeral for a 42 year old son of a cousin (very sad). So chill weekend will be very welcome. Watch some soccer on TV, watch F1, catch up with some shows recorded during the week and doing some knitting.

First time in a theatre in about 20 years this afternoon, had booked a loop system in advance but left after 2 mins as the amplification was so feeble. Was given a refund and went for a cuppa instead! Visited a bookshop with a resident dog, who enjoyed a bit of attention.

Going for a roast lunch tomorrow, followed by a walk along a beach. More beach walking on Monday, then home by train on Tuesday. In retrospect, five days away would have been enough, and being Scottish I hadn't realised there's a bank holiday here in England too.
