I've just applied for a new passport .
It's all on line now ...even your photograph can be downloaded digitally from an appropriate photo booth.! Mine was in Tescos!
I compared my new photo with my old one this morning.
Vanity has prevented me from comparing the two here ....
My hair is now a salt and pepper grey, ten years ago it was a lusty brown
My beard now looks like a badger's head and my eyes look tired.
Where does the time go? So sang the statuesque Julia Fordham
She's bloody right too.
Where does the time go?
I'm typing this on the train to Chester.
I've got things to do there...
I may go into our favourite cafe, to have a flat white
It's always full of bright young things
Hey ho
enjoy looking at the sweet young things.
ReplyDeleteI did briefly
DeleteI was only asking myself the same question this morning. A badger's what?
ReplyDeleteArse
DeleteAh yes. As I suspected.
DeleteWere you munching a Tesco Finest scotch egg when you had your passport photo taken in the booth?
ReplyDeleteNo I was sucking a coffee eclair
DeleteThankfully my previous passport photo was so bad that my newer more ancient self looks better... but only in the photos...
ReplyDeleteOh I wish
DeleteI was going to say the same thing! Yes, I look older - but my hair style on my older one was bloody awful, LOL!
DeleteOn the rare occasion that a person actually looks at my picture (rather than being scanned by a machine) - I always say “I look much thinner in real life, don’t you think?” It ALWAYS gets a reaction.
ReplyDeleteJP
I'll try that one
DeleteIt's how you feel in your head that matters. Or at least that's always what I tell myself! Jane xx
ReplyDeleteI don't feel too good jane
Delete"Flat white". That's the second time I've seen you use that expression and me, here in California, would like a translation. What is it?
ReplyDeletejust a coffee with milk
DeleteI thought it was non-bubbly white wine!!
DeleteJust a pretentious coffee
DeleteThanks Kylie and John. I was beginning to think it might be a pancake .. flat, usually white.
DeleteThe law is that,no Passport photo is allowed to make you look good.
ReplyDeletePetty government workers made that one up.
X
DeleteAlso driver's license photos...
DeleteAlso a bus pass! I was so peeved at the ineptitude of the twit dealing with my application and photo that I look a right mardy arse.
DeleteWhere does the time go, I seem to ask myself that question a lot lately. :(
ReplyDeleteI feel so blessed again in my marriage after Doctor ODUMODU brought back my husband that separated with me for one good year. Am ALENNA by name from ROMANIA. Even though i have mouths all over my body, it won't be enough to thank Doctor ODUMODU for his help upon my life. My husband separated with me for one year and have been in pains and agony without him. So, i searched for help everywhere but nothing worked out not until i meant Doctor ODUMODU. I explained my situation to him and he promised that my husband will get back to me within 48 hours as far that my heart still beats for him. I believed in him and he prepared a spell for me and my husband called me exactly when Doctor ODUMODU said. He pleaded and said he needs me back and now we are living happily again for the past 9 months. Everyone out there reading my article that needs help should contact him...Emil:drodumodusolutions@gmail.com
DeleteThe adventures of the past10 years, show in my face.
ReplyDeleteA nicer way to put it x
DeleteHaven't had a valid passport for nigh on 25 years (try getting travel insurance when you've just been diagnosed with epilepsy), but feel I need to sort that out in the next few months - when I locate the damned thing.
ReplyDeleteThe photo in that passport is of a different person to the one I am now. My face has softened up over the years, and I no longer bleach my hair. Will take some explaining away to convince a stranger that the photo is of me, 30 odd years ago.
One of the questions on the form is " you need to get verification of your photos if your new photo looks nothing like your old one
DeleteAnd the wrinkles, John. God, the wrinkles! But then, I'm a quarter century older than you.
ReplyDeleteI now look like a basset hound x
DeleteOnly last week I was walking in town when I noticed out the corner of my eye an old man with white-ish beard seeming to be slightly but conspicuously bent over with a bit of a hunch as he shuffled along in rather ungainly manner. I caused myself some shame by experiencing a reflex of repugnance. Imagine the horror when I realised it was my own reflection in Debenham's window. Oh, the pain!
ReplyDeleteWelcome to my world x
DeleteWe all look impossibly young in old passport photos.
ReplyDeleteYou're only as young as you feel...so start feeling up some young things!
ReplyDeleteBlow a raspberry in the tummy of the next baby that you meet. It'll make the baby laugh and you'll feel much younger. It's the secret to how newborn nursery nurses look so young! I'm guessing behind the shades, they pick up them babies and rub them all over their faces to get that youthful, glowing look!
You're not getting older, John. You're an exquisite painting, an extraordinary sculpture, a resplendent jewel, a masterpiece. You are forever treasured and only grow more priceless and more cherished with time.
Cheers!
You are a delightful blog commentator x
DeleteI always thought a badger's head was very attractive...
ReplyDeleteLove, love Chester, it's been far to long ago we visited, enjoy your trip.

DeleteLovely to hear that song again...a blast from the past, just like your old passport photo. Mine's equally depressing and unlike most passport photo's it made me look far more attractive than I actually was. Dread re-doing the photo for my new one! Enjoy Chester.
ReplyDeleteYou look fine.
ReplyDeleteNow THATS what I needed to hear
DeleteI have some good friends in Chester. I've been there several times. I like walking round the walls. So which is your favourite café?
ReplyDeleteThe jaunty goat on Bridge Street
DeleteI had to get a new passport this year and I'm pleased to say I looked better in these photos than I did 10 years ago. They must have got better lighting in the booths.
ReplyDeleteBig head x
DeleteI don't think I look at all as I did 10 years ago but now I've gone grey I quite like seeing my older self reflected in the mirror x
ReplyDeleteI wish I did
DeleteLike Andi I, too had to get a new passport this year, and actually look better and younger in the new one ! No, it's not my imagination either !
ReplyDeleteWhen you get home can we pls see the origami glowing Deco polar bear lamp? Are these vintage or new? I love the hippo!
ReplyDeleteTomorrow xx
Delete<3 xxx
DeleteMy passport photos always look like I've just newly escaped from the local women's max security pen. No matter what age I am!
ReplyDeleteI look like I've escaped from the secure unit for the mentally bewildered
DeleteI got all of that sorted last year - got sent back to have my photo redone as I was showing my teeth - apparently it looked as though I was smiling and that's not allowed!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your outing!
I think you you look wonderful.
ReplyDeletecheers, parsnip
Thank goodness x
DeleteBelieve you me John. From my exalted age I think of you as a bright young thing.
ReplyDeleteThank you old friend x

DeleteI must do the same. I've been putting it off as I hate those bloody photo booths.
ReplyDeleteAt least your not old and cranky a smile takes 10 years of your face so your wont age a bit.
ReplyDeleteSo, where will your new passport be taking you? Is it to your next place to live? XX
ReplyDelete‘Your face the mirror of your soul’... how true that is. My lovely mum suffered for so long with depression before her early death. Just by one glance I could tell exactly how she was feeling.
ReplyDeleteYou are going through a huge change in lifestyle, is it any wonder you don’t look and feel as bright as a button? Be easy on yourself, look in the mirror in the morning and see the good shining back. Acknowledge it; be proud of every cotton-picking wrinkle and grey hair it shows you’ve lived and loved. Hope this doesn’t sound too trite?

So I was thinking - these governmental bureaus that require photos should keep a professional photographer on hand, and charge anyone who wants to pony up an additional fee to have a GOOD photo taken. Bet they could make some additional $$$! I know I would gladly pay to have a decent photo to look at for the next 10 years...
ReplyDeleteI just renewed my US passport. I believe my photo will trump yours anyday. Once again, I am bald due to the latest round of chemo treatments. This is the third time I’ve lost my hair. Two thoughts came to mind when I went to renew....perhaps I am being overly optimistic renewing my passport for ten years and if I do survive, I am stuck with a picture of a bald headed for ten years. Ah life, don’t know if I should laugh or cry when I look at myself.
ReplyDeleteBeing ten years older than you, John, I can say with confidence that in another decade you'll look back at the pictures of you taken now and wonder what all your self-criticism was about :)
