Rock 'n Roll

Rush hour Wrexham

In February I've been asked to take part in a weekend course for Samaritans
It means a multiple workshops and an overnight hotel stay,
One of these events took part in the picturesque city of Bath so I got quite excited at the prospect of a pub trip, a brief bit of local colour and maybe a nice meal out!
Suffice to say my weekend is in Wrexham ( Google Wrexham and you may get a feel for my disappointment )
I also had a message from a fellow Sam called Graham ( not his real name) who is a retired pensioner ...who is going on the same course and who wanted a lift
Hes a lovely person who added as a postscript " I'll bring my ukulele "
Rock n fucking Roll!

  6. Wrexham does have The Golden Lion: "Pub-restaurant, allegedly haunted by a ploughman, offering beer garden, eclectic cuisine and fires."

Hmmmm, fires. Wonder what that means.

  7. Sounds rather tame for you, John! But keep an open mind. It may turn out better than you expect. And actually the ukelele can sound very, very good if the artist knows what he or she is doing. Our son in law plays, and it is amazing. Let's hope Graham is in fact a virtuoso!

  9. St. Giles looks worth a visit. Watch what you say about ukulele players. Some of my best friends, etc.

  16. What are you whining about, don't you live next to a cemetery? Not a lot of partying there either I would guess.

  17. I find the most fascinating thing about the ukulele is the word itself. A construction of letters so not English in origin and so not natural to type or write for me. It means flying flea from Hawaiian because of the way the fingers just fly when the instrument is played and where the instrument was popular, I think.

I live in the rural outskirts of Wrexham and absolutely refuse to go into the town now. St Giles IS beautiful but too many empty shops and filthy streets. I'd recommend going out of town on Sat night unless you want to experience the Spice zombies and the drunk tank (sorry , welfare unit) in action. Wrexham does get lively but not in a good way.
Be interested to hear what you make of it, good or bad. Lorraine

  22. I've heard that "if you like ukulele lady, ukulele lady like a'you." I don't know if the same holds true for ukulele man. Wrexham looks like the perfect place for a ukulele.

  27. Sometimes it is the message, sometimes it is the venue, on rare occasion both make the adventure worthwhile. Enjoy the LIVE music for the trip.

  28. Who needs Davos when you have Wrexham. Are you leading some of the workshops? I think you would be very good at it.

  29. Dear God in Heaven.

Perhaps they chose Wrexham thinking it helpful for Sams to experience what despair tastes like.

Weave better not catch you rolling your eyes at Tiny Tim Graham.
