My feet have been worn away to stumps.
Today's been a bit of an emotional rollercoaster. The 9/11 museum at ground zero is a truly humbling and emotional experience and is a place given universal reverence by the people who go there.
I was near tears several times during our guided tour, as I was sitting outside at the dramatic waterfalls situated on the footprint of the towers.
We ate pizza in the street in Soho then walked up Manhattan from the meat packing district via the High Line before coming back to the hotel in Midtown .
In a few minutes we are off to the Oyster Bar at Grand Central then it's La Boheme at the Met!
Hey ho

We did that walking tour too, we had a former fire officer who had been on duty on the day as our guide - I was in bits. Enjoy your evening xx
ReplyDeleteGlad you are having such a good time. I've never been to the museum but hope to visit someday.
ReplyDeleteI expect the guides have seen a lot of tears. And probably shed them too.
ReplyDeleteI hope that you finish today on a high.
John, I'm so glad you're enjoying yourselves, you and himself.
ReplyDeleteThank you John. I mentioned in your post about where to go in New York that my daughter and I were so moved in the early days of the 9/11 memorial, but the others in our party wanted to move on. The water vapour from the footprint waterfalls is incredibly moving. We will return.
ReplyDeleteI was moved by it all, but the 9/11 hymn playing as you ride the escalators out of the dark museum is especially moving

ReplyDeleteThe museum was not quite finished when we were there last. The Memorial, the names, the water, the sacred stillness moved my husband and me to tears . . .
ReplyDeleteLa Boheme, the Met . . . Oh My . . . might even be more tears.
Enjoy a Wonderful evening.
I've always felt they should have built the towers back exactly as they were or maybe a few floors higher... The memorial not on memorializes the ones who were lost but the ones who did it.. ........ I don't think mine ia a popular opinion but there it is.. Glad your enjoying yourself John... I've been to NY a few times... China Town and i glimped the Statue of Liberty from afar.. and Rockefeller Center and the ice skating rink... Hugs! deb
ReplyDeleteOur former neighbor in New York was one of the firemen lost that day. His name was Michael Fodor. And a fine man he was. I remember seeing one of the plaques with his name on it (this was before the memorial was finished) the last time we were there. I need it would move me, but it still took my breath away.
ReplyDeleteThere'll be tears before bedtime after La Boheme!
ReplyDeleteThey did such a lovely job at the memorial for the 9/11 horror. It truly is breathtaking , and I love the footprint of the fountains.
ReplyDeleteYou guys are certainly enjoying the glorious city of New York the right way!!!!!!
I'm glad you had a beautiful NYC day! And hope you don't snore during La Boheme.
ReplyDeleteIf you go past tRump tower, give it a middle finger salute for me, please!!!!
ReplyDeleteThe memorial site is very moving. My husband, who cries at nothing, lived in Manhattan during 9.11 & saw the second plane hit, cried silently at the memorial when we visited last in July. It's moving for all of us, but for those who experienced the terror of that day first-hand, it's surely very tough to process. I recall him saying that after that day he began, sort of, comfort eating (leading to a huge weight gain) & he grew his hair and beard out. I saw photos of him from that time. He looks a bit like a wild man.
ReplyDeleteJohn, you and the Prof are having a stellar time. Don't eat too much corned beef!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the Big Apple Update John. I hope that "La Boheme" is great.
ReplyDeleteIt all sounds like heaven. Go to any drugstore and buy a pair of Dr. Scholl's padding for shoes. They really help.

A trip that is on my bucket list. I know I will be emotional, but it is something we can never forget. Hope you are enjoying our beautiful country.
ReplyDeleteIf you make it to the Neue Galerie, eat at their restaurant. Yummy Viennese food and desserts!
ReplyDeleteWe went yesterday!
DeleteI've also been to the 9/11 Museum. As you say, a very emotional experience. The individual stories were extremely moving.
