So sad to hear of the death at 74 of actress Karen Black
She was a pivotal part of my early teenage years
Playing the seminal role of Nancy the cross eyed stewardess
Who has to fly the stricken jumbo
In AIRPORT 75
She cemented my love of camp catastrophe
Btw
I think she was the first woman in a disaster movie to shriek
" Oh my God!"
I remember the movie too. But not sure if I recognize the actress. Sorry to hear about her passing.
ReplyDeleteWith those wonderfully, subtly misaligned eyes, Karen Black invited the attention of everyone toward all the characters she portrayed. A favorite. I shall miss her.
ReplyDeleteJust heard the news on the radio. She was the essential 'plus' on so many movies.
ReplyDeleteShe was simply brilliant in The Great Gatsby and also rather effective in a minor Better Davis horror yarn Burnt Offerings. Not to mention The Day of the Locust. An eccentric but genuine talent.
ReplyDeleteYes, The Great Gatsby - wonderful
ReplyDeleteI don't remember many of the movies I watch but I do remember her in "Five Easy Pieces."
ReplyDeleteI had no idea that Karen Black died. I loved her in Gatsby. She was also fantastic in Trilogy of Terror and Killing Heat.
ReplyDeletei did not know she died either! i really liked her!
ReplyDeleteShe was brilliant and so sexy in "Five Easy Pieces". A great movie. It's hard to think that that gorgeous young woman arrived at the age of 74 so soon. May she rest in peace.
ReplyDeleteI remember her mostly in "The Pyx" with Christopher Plummer, when she throws herself out the window.(sorry for the spoiler!!!)
ReplyDeleteA memorable actor!
ReplyDeleteI have had occasionally a famous person comment on my blog. What a thrill. Karen was not so old really. Sad.
ReplyDeleteShe might well have been the first John but she certainly wasn't the last. Good luck with the village show this weekend. (it is this weekend isn't it?)
ReplyDeleteI had not heard she died. May she rest in peace.

Nashville
my youth ~~ loved Karen Black
Have a good weekend, John. ♥
ReplyDeleteI, too, missed the news about Karen Black, and I'm really sorry she's gone. With her odd eyes she created an intensity with every role.
ReplyDeleteNancy in Iowa
I think I would have appreciated her more if her eyes had not made me very uncomfortable. It's like when someone sings just slightly off key. They do a better job of it than I could ever do, but it grates on me. I don't have that problem when I'm face to face with someone, though. I can't believe Karen was 74. How have people gotten so old, so fast?
ReplyDeleteOH how sad. I LOVED that movie when I was a kid. I read the book, too. I thought Karen was fabulous.
