Tuesday Morning Blues

"Kill, KILL, KILL THEM ALL!!!!"
It's here!
After a waterlogged bastard soddin summer
Cold, icy mornings have now bloody well arrived in Trelawnyd
It's a depressing thought
which leads me to the black feelings of murder which always surface during those freezing early morning moments between waking and that first life saving cup of coffee of the day.
That coffee has just been downed
(it only tastes "good" when it is in my American coffee cup)
"Out with anger.......in with love"
I am feeling much better now...
compared with others I know...what do I have to be sad about?

Later this week Chris flies to Melbourne for a conference. He will be away just over a week.
I have a huge list of jobs to complete when he is away , but at least I can be as grumpy as I like first thing in the morning. The dogs don't insist on conversation at 6.45 am even when I am sifting through their poo ( btw. more brown plastic bunting has been passed this morning!)

One job that I cannot complete is the cutting down of the vast honeysuckle which has draped itself above the front door. Quite unexpectedly the whole troupe of house sparrows that used to roost within the field hawthorns have upped sticks and moved into it's complication of branches.and the din as they roost around 6pm every night is absolutely unbelievable!
This daily influx of two dozen bickering birds inches from the living room sends Albert into a complete state of nervous exhaustion, for each little bird knows exactly just how far to push him and to keep safe.
While I am cooking supper, all I can hear is his low growling  which I translate into
" those pesky little bastards!!!!!!" and their screaming chorus of chirping which more or less says
"COME ON!!!!!!!!!!!! if you think you're hard enough!"
The honeysuckle leaves will be falling soon and the sparrows will I am sure more on....for the mean time, I will complete other jobs when Chris is in OZ land

Dawn this morning, Albert and Willaim sharing my armchair

  1. It's a lovely morning here, but I must admit to having a touch of Autumn blues myself. I know! After all I said!

  4. I do wish that my cat and dogs would be more friendly towards each other. I would forgive them curling up together on the sofa.

  5. Melbourne is known for being able to have four seasons in an hour so warn Chris to prepare for everything. And sparrows is sparrows the world over. Ours delight in baiting Jazz. When he is safely inside.

  6. TUESDAY morning blues? Must have been my kind of weekend!

  7. John, I know what you mean. This morning was cold but beautiful. I need at least 2 cups of tea though before I can appreciate any kind of beauty in the world. Plus I don't know when it came my job to do the dog poo pick in the garden but it is and I appreciate the frost because dog poo is easier to pick up.

  8. I'll be in Melbourne later this week too (I live only a couple of hours away). I'll give Chris a cheery wave, should I happen to see him. Stranger things have happened. I've bumped into people in the most unlikely places.

Now, now: While the Chris is away will you be dancing with Jason? If you want to edit the last sentence out please do.

I am in despair, John. I leave you comments offering you to pay for your training in your dream job, that of a butler, so you can come and work for me once I am Lady of the Manor (bring Chris and all other animals) and what do I get for my efforts? Not so much as a fork. Or a fish knife in the right place.

Why am I incandescent? I do have a name yet here I appear as Anonymous. If there is anything I am not it's anonymous.
Throwing down the gauntlet (to Blogspot or Wordpress or whoever will wish to pick it up),

PS I was hoping that your latest update would amount to 'tapeworm' rather than remnants of a Tesco bag gone stale

  11. Ursula, tough shit. I have already offered John the appointment of maître d'hôtel at Fat Hippos and am busy negotiating a Chair at the University of Luanda at ridiculous expatriate rates for Chris. I have put aside two hectares for the menagerie.

    1. I will probably get hippos being abandoned in my field then!

Don't count your hippos yet, Tom. You may have offered but has he accepted? John is a man of taste and knows a refined chick which won't give him trouble and does her own scratching. He also knows an old gander even without seeing you. You may have impressed him with your dining room table and chairs in the "garage". I have walls. HA!

I will up the ante, Tom, mark my words. Then we'll know who is the better loser.

Naturally, I could roll Koffi Anan, Henry Kissinger, Hilary Clinton and any other sweet talker into one, and suggest that we time share John. Though that might confuse him.

God damn it, Tom, may the better wo/man win.

      U

What I'd like to know though is what is the writing and logo on you hat?

  13. Friggin' freezing here as well in the mornings, I could due with a fire in the stove. I am thinking of shelving the rubber boots to bringing out the much warmer lined winter ones.

  14. Frost on the pumpkin here this morning, back up in the sizzling summertime temps come this weekend....
I know how much extra work cold weather creates, when caring for animals outdoors, almost miserable.
I'm smiling at Albert and William, sure it's not their chair ?

  15. I'm with you on 'Kill them all' in the morning, good to know I'm not the only one. After reading your blog I start chuckling and the world seems a better place!

    ReplyDelete
  16. I don't see much point to all this winter stuff.
There are some beautiful places in the world that never freeze and they are just fine. This cold makes even a positive chap like myself a little off.

  17. It's not cold here either yet, but it will come, so for now enjoying temperatures which are still up in the twenties. Must try and locate my hand knitted woolly hat ready for when it is needed, but it doesn't look as snug as yours does because I made it a bit big, couldn't be bothered to redo it, so it sort of flops all over the place. I do not look anywhere near as tidy as you do in your photo when I am wearing it!

Scrolling down your post (before my first coffee) I thought for one truly horrible moment that you had decided to photograph the bunting.. I didn't see the bird. Thanks for not!

  19. Whilst Chris is away, will you be re-decorating as a surprise for his return again?

  20. Frozen solid here (2nd morning in a row), nearly a full 2 weeks early this year. A riotous band of sparrows wake me every morning from the safety of the rhody outside my window. Only way to stop the racket is fill the feeder - even before I've had a restorative coffee. Stupid birds. *yawn*

  21. My blog post is all warm and fuzzy today...not sure if it will cheer you up or make you feel worse.

  22. Just what I don't miss...coming down to try to get the stove to come to life again...finding the wellies not as warm as I would have hoped being beside stove overnight...glance through window to frosty exterior not welcoming and a band of beady eyed poultry awaiting attention.

At leasdt here it's warm when I put out the rotting bananas for the butterflies.

  25. ...its "complication of branches"... Very nice, John.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Oh lord I thought you photographed the bunting as well. Unless it is the bunting and you left it out for the birds to use for their nests...
Which would mean you now have poo hanging over your front door.
    Sick bastard.
    Definitely following you now.

  27. If they are pretty little finches or something of the sort I would let them stay. But House sparrows and starlings get the heave ho at the Manor, cheeky little bastards! Sorry ran out of coffee, in a very bad mood. Thank heavens I can depend on your post to lighten my morning.

  28. I don't get the picture is that sparrow flattened ?

    ReplyDelete
  29. I love sparrow roosts--they remind me of a pub where everyone gathers to socialize at the end of the day. But then, I have never had to contend with one over my door!

    ReplyDelete
  30. Well John, it seems as though Ursula and Tom are locked into a bidding war for your services. I feel as though I should likewise put in a bid to have you come Stateside, but I'll need to bribe a few Congressmen and University Chairs in order to one-up Tom. Do your animals have their passports at the ready?

are you ever going to blog again?

  37. I can so commiserate!! We are enjoying the last few days of a dry sunny autumn before the weekend forecast for 'soaking rain' - and so begins the 1/2 year of rain that gives us all our green trees, ferns and moss.

Coffee is an essential component of any winter survival strategy - strong, freshly ground dark roast coffee. Coffee so strong it might just melt a spoon left in it too long.

  38. Shame Chris couldn't have taken you to carry his suitcase and fight off the killer magpies and other nasty creatures that have chosen to make Australia their home. Perhaps he'll bring a dingo back. That'll make William wish he hadn't moaned about the sparrows.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Haha. Poor Albert.
Perhaps a sunlamp would help, John?

Enjoy your 'freedom' to grouch! *hugs* ♥

  41. I finally relented and turned the heat on yesterday when a friend popped round. I try to wait until it's double digits in October, but it was a bit raw inside and out, so the heat felt good.

I'm not a coffee drinker any longer, but the rules stayed the same when i switched to tea. I really don't want to have to say anything to anyone until i've had 20 minutes to stare at the wall and cradle that first cuppa.
