Daryl saves the little fat kid

THE WALKING DEAD 's second episode aired tonight and the writers have introduced  a killer swine flu element in the post apocalyptic world. Characters have been developed, fleshed out and changed, new characters added and within the narrative there seem to feature a " new way of seeing the world" which kind of fits a life 2 years after " everything went bad" , so to speak.....where the new community in the prison are rewriting what's normal and what's not.

The formally mousey Carol ( Melissa Mcbride) is now  a strong warrior matriarch that wants to teach kids to kill if they need to....Michonne ( who has developed into some Captain Ahab-esque character) is shown to have a past that hints at the loss of a child and Daryl is now a much respected member of the prison community council , a position of standing and respectability he never had in his previous redneck existence 

I am interested to see where the writers take this zombie disaster movie....it's still as exciting as it has always been, it still has the ability to wrong foot it's audience and it still features some fascinating and compelling characters but I do hope it's not reduced to a pure " whose gonna die next" kind of video game.....

Ok , perhaps I am being somewhat of a martyr again

Chris went into work late today

And before he left, he caught me scrubbing dog  paw prints out of the living room carpet

" what are you doing?" He asked

" origami" I almost said but thought better of it

" getting shitty footprints out of the shagpile" I told him

" what happened to the carpet cleaner?" He asked

" he got to 51 almost unscathed" I almost said again

It's 2pm and so far today I have

Scrubbed the lounge carpet'

Bleached the kitchen

Done some washing

Cleaned the bog,

Bathed Meg and carefully cut four clingons from her bum,

Cleaned shit stains from bath enamel ( Meg's btw)

Updated online bulldog insurance

Moved ladder out of the church at church warden's request

Collected layers pellets from farm shop

Made cup of coffee ( forgot to drink it)

Fed and watered the animals,

Delivered eggs around village,

Walked dogs ( twice)

Fed cat

Fed dogs

Fed rabbit,

Petted cat

Petted dogs,

Petted rabbit,

Cleaned logburner out

Stubbed toe on corner of couch during hoovering

Swore a great deal

Cleaned bulldog face wrinkles out with a cotton bud

Did the weekly shop at the supermarket

( According to the checkout girl we saved £ 1.22 shopping at Tesco)

Cut grass in front garden

Made two phone calls

Prepared supper

And cleaned cottage

I have just sat down with another cup of coffee

And the cat has just puked up on the living room rug

And four dogs are now  fighting over the spoils

I give up

Nice

I took Chris to the station at some ungodly hour this morning, and on my way Back through the village of Dyserth I noticed two cars had stopped in the road with their hazard lights on.
It took me a little while to realise that both car drivers were  out of their cars and both had gone to the aid of an elderly chap who had fallen over outside the newsagents.
Not much of an early morning story. But it's a warm one given the hour.
I delight in little acts of kindness
And am reminded of one I experienced in the 1980s

dumplings

Short post today....but it's amused me

I popped into our local supermarket for some stuff for tea

And couldn't find what I was looking for as the store is being refurbished

Finally I stopped a manager and in a rather exasperated way

Asked him

"Can you show me where your dumplings are?"

We looked at each other for a long moment

Then both of us burst into laughter

Well, Well, Well.......

Kimbery, Ruby and a tearful Francis await the results

Well the Bake off finished tonight with all the satisfaction of a Hollywood movie......front runners Kimberly and Ruby ( the uber confident, gorgeous  and talented psychologist and the pretty and self depreciating law student) stumbled somewhat during the final, allowing plain Jane Francis to pip them at the post
And just one look at the stunned happiness on Francis' face made it all worthwhile ( albeit not quite fair somehow)
I wonder who will play her in the film?
Joan Cusack?
Or perhaps Keira Knightly in heavy make up and a bad wig?

Cat Hairs In The Icing

I think Tom Stephenson is just a little psychic
His comment about the state of the inside of the cottage had some resonance this morning as after
leaving  some butter icing in a bowl for the briefest of moments as I was making cakes this morning
 it was splattered delightfully all over every surface only a few seconds later
There was only  a few hairs to dig out of the remainder
Chris will never notice

Through Someone Else's Eyes

Cogburn  out for his morning constitutional 

I had a small audience this morning, when one after another, the houses of the Ukrainian village were opened up in the light autumn rain.
A couple of workmen, replacing a headstone on a grave in the new graveyard were leaning on the fence, and they watched carefully as the field slowly burst into life.
I hand fed the sheep who now will jam their whole heads into the offered saucepan of corn, filled Mary's hutch with dandelion leaves and as the geese, ducks and smattering of hens followed me , I led the blind Cogburn out of his run, for a walk in the wet grass.
We ambled over to the fence where one man remained
And before I could say hello
He said with a smile " that was fucking amazing!"
" what was?" I asked
He pointed to the line of ducks sieving the grass for worms, the geese slipping down into the pond and at William galloping in circles around a wide eyed Albert with a small onion firmly clamped in his mouth, and smiled as
Winifred and George trotted up to the fence sniffing at Cogburn who was feeling his way towards us carefully
" all this!" He said waving his arm

Sometimes it's refreshing to see your life through someone else's eyes, even if it is just the briefest of glimpses.
