"Women are like Amazons"

I think the above quote sums up the BBC flagship costume drama of "Cranford" (2007) quite wonderfully. It is spoken by one of the townsfolk of a rural 1842 Cheshire town, who understands quite clearly (as Elizabeth Gaskill obviously did) the small absurdities and major tragedies in the lives of isolated small community women. The largely female cast absolutely shine, in this ambitious production, that effectively see-saws between hilarity and moving pathos. Standouts include Eileen Atkins as the town's arbiter of political correctness and Imelda Staunton as the hysterical Miss Pole.
This series has caught me by surprise! It is a wonderful piece of television.
Nige left for home this afternoon, as the weather has turned for the worse. He will be glad to miss the voting on Strictly come dancing tonight (He called it the X factor for the middle classes!- which was a little waspish!)
Great to sit in next to the fire anyhow watching Gethin getting through to the quarter finals and the good folk of Cranford coping with the advent of the railways!
Nigel's cooking
Gethin has done very well in Strictly come dancing this evening (39 points for his first dance) and it is lovely having Nige visiting as he is busy in the kitchen making dinner, whist we are watching the lovely Gethin, Matt and pig-in-a- dress Letitia,( who is rapidly turning into one of my favourites)! battle it out. Great to have a visitor that you don't have to look after!

I have had him busy today! as a badger had lifted part of hen fencing up overnight and most of the girls had escaped by 9am! We managed to corral them all beck up before taking the dogs to the beach then off to Llandudno for lunch at Osborn's . Lladudno had a Christmas parade going on led by a really bouncy drum band of middle aged women (Chris uncharitably called them a troupe of hippy lesbians). Not sure where 20 Star Wars stormtroopers have to do with Christmas, but they looked interesting enough!!!!!
Nearly killing a hooker, painting the Church radiators and complaining DOES work

Being the emergency expert that I am I tried to check for vital signs ( not easy I can tell you) and I was sure the little girl was breathing but she was certainly totally comatose. Fearing a subdural haematoma I put her in the nesting box and contemplated a quick dash to the vets, but thought better of it as there was very little that he could do!. Gawd I felt guilty. Anyhow a few minutes of rest and she started to come around, albeit slowly. The picture was taken half an hour or so later!

And finally-I am so happy that the council has listened to me and will be repairing the road and Cottage wall barriers from the 1st of December!! It actually makes a change that an organisation like Flintshire Highways actually listened to my worries and complaints about the Lane's corner and now have done something about it!! and only in a matter of weeks rather than years! Good service! great news
