One of my pottery figures has disappeared
I’ve only just noticed.
8 benign faces watched me eat my breakfast this morning before counselling
There should have been nine. I searched the kitchen, behind the radiator , in the cushions
On the floor
And….nothing
It’s a mystery for sure
The wind is up and both cats are lying on the couch when the dogs are at Trendy Carol’s.
The garden has dried in the wind, and the honeysuckle around the front door has bloomed fully over just one day.
The “ Winifred” Rose ( bought for me after Queen Sãlote Tupou died) has finally flowered too , showing great sweet smelling blooms the colour of custard tinged with raspberry. The rose was planted just under six years ago but has never properly flowered until now
Just sitting and day dreaming about nothing
My hands folded in my lap like Auntie Gladys used to hold hers.

A mystery indeed. I have my suspects and they all have fur and paws! The Winifred rose is beautiful and I'm so glad it's fragranced. What's the point of a rose without scent? It does seem to be a good year for roses. Mine have flowered well too. xx
ReplyDeleteIt’s an old English rose
DeleteI like your point of view... 'what good is a rose without a scent... :)
DeleteIf it was a furry accident then there would be pieces of it or a whole figure on the floor.
ReplyDeleteOnly a dog would be able to get it in it's mouth and take it into the garden.
Or....perhaps a visitor knocked it off and took it home to mend it.
Or.....you have been so stressed that you put it in the cupboard or fridge in a moment of distraction.
The again you may have a ghost in the cottage. 😱
I would search the house again and then search the garden.
It certainly is a mystery. 😃

DeleteWhat's interesting is it appears to be the middle one (?). Gotta love a mystery especially in a historic cottage in Wales!!!!
ReplyDeleteMy money is on weaver
DeleteThe penalty of old age is that the extent of one's grasp of/knowledge about one's surroundings narrows down. Things vanish (and appear - for me a large box of expensive and delicious chocolates) without one realizing what has happened. A bummer but live with it. Roderick
ReplyDeleteI’m 64 not 90 lol xxx
DeletePoint taken lol
DeleteWho doesn't love a good mystery? But that honeysuckle! How beautiful and lush is that!
ReplyDeleteIt smells beautiful xx
DeleteI think Weaver or Roger. Does anyone go in your house when youre not there? Creepy.
ReplyDeleteThe garden is beautiful and must smell delightful. Here the dune roses, honeysuckle and wild sweet peas are starting to bloom. Oh the ocean breeze smells its very best in June.
"The Mystery of the Missing Pottery Figure" by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Where is Sherlock Holmes when you need him? Probably playing his ruddy violin.
ReplyDeleteIt seems to be a good year for roses. I wish I had some honeysuckle, fond childhood memories of it.
ReplyDeleteYour blooms look so pretty. Hope you find your pottery figure. I suspect your pets, too! xo
ReplyDeleteWhere does Roger and/or Weaver hide their treasures. Maybe under a cushion. Gigi
ReplyDeleteIf I was a burglar one of those clay figures is exactly what I'd be swiping. But I have an alibi for this one.

I’m so confused. Didn’t the Queen die in 1965? Jane x
ReplyDeleteQueen Sãlote was Winifred’s nickname
DeleteThe spirit of the house has been and claimed it's own favourite. Ask St Jude, the patron of lost things, for help and see if it returns. It happens in old houses.
ReplyDeleteYour flowers always look beautiful, and I am envious of that honeysuckle.
The awful weather this winter has pushed reluctant plants into flowering as never before. I have a Danse Du Feu in the same state. But lovely to finally feel rewarded with a bloom.
How bizarre about the ninth pottery figure. If that were our house, I’d know Merchi broke it while cleaning and removed the evidence.
ReplyDeleteMystery indeed. Maybe someone furry has taken it into the garden? The old English roses are just beautiful. Carole R
ReplyDeleteWinnie's rose is absolutely beautiful and the perfect colour for her. It is indeed a mystery, I bet it's somewhere in the garden ... ask your sister!!
ReplyDeleteIn time you will become Uncle John in the community.
ReplyDeleteSomehow the colour of that rose really suits the memory of Winnie. I hope there will be more to the mystery of the disappearing figure. x
ReplyDeleteLovely photos. Slipping this in quietly - belated Happy Birthday x

With phones and such we don't do enough of that anymore... sitting and daydreaming... good for you...I'm sorry about your little person... Wonder where in the world it could have went........Hugs! deb
ReplyDeleteSomeone at pottery suggested leaving pottery at each other's houses to get rid of pottery but the taking of pottery? No!
ReplyDeleteThat is a beautiful rose and even better when they have a lovely scent as well.
If the missing pottery piece was mostly roundish, I'd suspect someone with paws that likes to bat round and rolling things under furniture. Now as to how it got to the floor without breaking? Too bad your pottery people cannot talk or point fingers!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely rose and am so glad it's fragrant. It seems a pity to me to grow roses without any scent.
Happy Thursday, John! It's a good day to sit and appreciate the beauty of your surroundings with hands folded like Auntie Glad's hands.
Hugs!

ReplyDeleteThe floral scents in your garden must be glorious.
ReplyDeleteRose scent and honeysuckle are two of my favorites.
Like small children, by accident, cats and dogs break things within reach. A fall to the floor and shatter followed by some vacuuming could explain the missing figure. All speculation. A true unsolved mystery!
There's fuckery afoot in cat form me thinks.
ReplyDeleteImagine your shock when you discover your little clay figurine watching you as you sleep or waiting for you in the shower.
