Mary had joined me in bed. She does this every night now and sleeps by the wall, her head peeping out from the eiderdown.
Any time after 2 pm Bun joins us and curls up in the left hand corner of the duvet
I usually scratch her a welcome scratch with my big toe.
It’s a habit we have all gotten into since Mary became poorly.
Last night I watched a catty Kindness
A small moment between two species that lightens the heart and is worthy of a short blog entry.
Bun walked two steps from her warmed sleeping spot and sniffed at Mary’s blind eye. It’s been looking sore recently and I’ve cleaned it with hypromellose eye drops, nevertheless the cat started to lick the closed eye gently and Mary turned her head to allow her to continue her work which Bun did with some precision and tenacity .
It’s not much of blog news.
It’s a little thing really .
But like noticing the honeysuckle in flower yesterday
And the fat man flying around the garden, the day before.
It’s part of the fabric of Bwthyn y Llan
And the small lives of the five creatures that live here.
For some strange reason that last line finished me off.

DeleteAs you know, I have been wondering about dear Mary. This caused me to weep, which is to say to you that it touched me deeply in ways that very few writers can do. So, for a constant repeat - thank you for sharing your life with us. You and Weaver Pat will always have a special place in my heart.
ReplyDeleteChin up dear Nell

DeleteWe could learn a lot from the way animals of different species treat each other. My very large german shepherds groom my cats who keep asking for more.
ReplyDeleteWe could indeed
DeleteHow amazingly and wonderfully sweet of Bun to understand what would help Mary feel better. In tears here.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you were awake to see Bun's attentive care, John. Perhaps in another life Bun was a nurse?
Hugs!
Sweet, sweet Bun. I'm glad you observed Bun's care and love for Mary. A precious moment for all.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing.
That's a sweet thing for Bun to do for Mary.
ReplyDeleteThat is very sweet. It’s those moments of contentment that make up our lives. - Jenn
ReplyDeleteMy old Tabby used to come into the bedroom during the night, and curl-up under my chin. It was always a very reassuring moment; all was well between us.
ReplyDeleteThank you John.

Always a joy to read your daily jottings.
ReplyDeleteSecond little yarn I heard today about nature's amazing moments concerning two different species.
ReplyDeleteIt's the little things that make the world go round. And the observation of the little things that touch the heart. Keep it up, John!
ReplyDeleteYou took the words from my mouth, Liz. I couldn't agree more.
DeleteThose moments warm the heart.
ReplyDeleteA lovely story. Have you found the clay figure yet?
ReplyDeleteBeautiful writing John. Had me in tears!
ReplyDeleteWe are all touched at the gentle caring of one small friend to their older friend.
ReplyDeleteIt's wonderful to take the time to notice the little things that happen, especially when it's the loving interaction between our pets. I miss the dogs and Ginger being together, as I know he does. And remember small lives can be very good lives. ❤
ReplyDeleteNoticing the small joys is how I keep myself in the positive. What a lovely little thing you got to watch, and now that sits in your heart as a warm memory. Thanks for sharing it so beautifully with us.
ReplyDeleteThis was a nice post to read early in the morning. I wish humans could be more like that.
ReplyDeleteA home filled with kindness.

DeleteMoments well worth sharing, for sure.
ReplyDelete❤️❤️❤️❤️
DeleteThere's something about interspecies relationships that slays me. Bun tending to Mary, Mary allowing her to- it's so damn sweet.
