I went to a friend’s funeral today. She lived in the village.
But as I was driving at the top of St Asaph towards the crematorium, I got gridlocked.
The King and Queen were in town.
They are celebrating Maundy Thursday at the Cathedral.
Luckily I was able to watch the funeral service online then got out and walked up towards the Cathedral just in time to see the King walk across the road to say hello to the crowd.
He’s like his mother not very big.
I came home eventually free of the police’s road closures and noticed some magnificent bunches of grape hyacinth on Ann Hindles’ wall
Bloody lovely
And Life goes on…..the Trelawnyd Go Green group prepared the ground around the village hall for compost beds and poppy flowers this afternoon. I bought a few packets of giant poppies this afternoon as a minor support

A memorable encounter (almost) and your favorite meal. What a good day, aside from the funeral, of course.
ReplyDeleteHugs!
It was nicely done babs
DeleteWow.....thank you for sharing these pictures! Linda from Alabama
ReplyDeleteMy father and mother went to a palace garden party as has my elder sister and brother in law . My parents went to Charles’ Investiture too
DeleteIt is gratifying to see that the King is able to get so close to the crowds without needing an army of armed bodyguards.
ReplyDeleteNice scotch egg 😋
The two beefy but mature guys either side were his body guards
DeleteThe introduction of live streaming funeral services is such a bonus. I "attended" a couple of such during Covid. What a shame you weren't able to shake hands or exchange a word with the king, but at least you got close enough to snap a photo. xx
ReplyDeleteI wasn’t expecting that they were there, it was all last minute
DeleteLove these pictures. The King does looks smaller in person than I had imagined. Great shot! And one day I am going to taste a scotch egg.
ReplyDeleteTry one , bloody lovely
DeleteWell, now, this was all quite unexpected. Very cooĺ!
ReplyDeleteYes…and all on a beautiful spring day
DeleteI remember when the King, a handsome prince back then, came to America. I was working in the area, got wind of his arrival, positioned myself at one of his stops, actually climbed partway up a street sign pole to get a view over the crowds and bodyguards when I saw him exiting the car. We made eye contact; he looked directly at me … probably because he couldn’t miss the spectacle of a young (then) woman, in respectful work attire, heels and all, having climbed halfway up and clinging onto a pole to get a gander at him.
ReplyDeletelol did he wave? …I feel sorry for him and Camilla , a royal visit to America sanctioned by a grovelling prime minister , which they can’t get out of
DeleteNo, LOL. He looked overwhelmed trying to exit the car and give polite face to the crowd at the same time; and then kinda froze for a hot second, eye contact, when he saw me clinging to the pole.
DeleteJo in Auckland
DeleteSorry ignore the above, I have no idea how that happened. I wanted to say I heard that the trip to America had been cancelled??? Has it not?
DeleteI had no idea they were in my neck of the woods
ReplyDeleteA scotch egg is just the thing after a royal encounter. I do wish his Majesty were not going to the USA. He is also the monarch of Canada which has suffered much from the current ruler next door including the threat of annexation. Would much rather Charles were coming here to give us a morale boost. DT is using the upcoming visit as propaganda, already saying the King supports the war in Iran.
ReplyDeleteIt’s not in his power to refuse , the Queen had to stomach the Nicolae Ceaușescu’s June 1978 state visit to the UK which was the first by a Warsaw Pact leader,
DeleteDid you see Camilla ? She’s a trooper
ReplyDeleteLee
I had a goose named after her
DeleteI like your king better than our king, King Donald the Frump.
ReplyDeleteHe is no king Michael he’s no president either
DeleteIf what I read about King Charles is true, then he has been very careful about what he eats for many years and only has two meals/day. He has long maintained his slender figure, and of course, he went through treatment for cancer so I'm not surprised he isn't very big. I hope the UK's government can somehow find a way to cancel his visit to the U.S. Charles has already put up with our idiot-in-chief more than once. He shouldn't have to tolerate the obnoxious criminal again.
ReplyDeleteLove,
Janie
Charles will be polite , Camilla I suspect would put Trump in his place
DeleteMethinks his place is in prison.
DeleteMe thinks I agree
DeleteI fucking agree too
DeleteLee🍸🍸🍸🍸🍸🍸
His place is most definitely in prison, but sadly, it's not likely to happen.
DeleteThe king or the Scotch eggs? So many questions:)
ReplyDeleteYou star
ReplyDeleteMaundy bells ringing
ReplyDeleteGrief sits quiet in the car
Wall holds soft purple
Fun! I didn’t realize how short (or at least NOT tall) Charles was until recently.
ReplyDeleteI wish the King and Queen could find an excuse to not visit the US. A sudden and unexpected illness (Covid?) would make a good excuse.
ReplyDeleteWith any luck trump will drop dead and they won’t have to go.
ReplyDeleteOn Wednesday on my way to the butcher I walked around the cathedral and observed the preparations for the visit. There were two men who must have been from The Palace overseeing the setup. They stuck out because they were in impeccable dark suits, ties, and fedoras(!). They looked exactly like they had stepped out of the 40s.
weavinfool
You seem to be quite close to him in the picture. The weather was springlike and makes everything feel so much better.
ReplyDeleteWow! You got so close to him.
ReplyDeleteHow exciting. I am so glad you were able to get close enough to get a great photo. I haven't had a Scotch Egg in too long.
ReplyDeleteIt is too bad our King has to go and submit himself to the faux king. Maybe the phoney one will drop dead first and do us all a favour. I am sure the King has better things to do. Gigi
ReplyDeleteWow! That's pretty amazing, to see the King first-hand! I've only ever seen royalty from a great distance.
ReplyDeleteI was trying to think of a familiar word that ends with ...king but for the life of me, I could not recall it.
ReplyDeleteI still hope to have one of those eggs some day; when I do I will think of you.
