It was a particularly gruelling night at work last night and I was somewhat jaded when I returned home.
A message from Trendy Carol’s Husband lifted my mood.
It simply said
“ I’ll pick the dogs up at 10.30”
And so safe in the thought they would be looked after whilst I slept, I walked and fed them, then went to bed, for a proper sleep.
Trendy Carol’s hubby I will call Owain
Without Owain, I couldn’t have kept my dogs for as long as I have.
From the first time that I had to return to work after retiring, he jumped into the breech and took care of them when I needed him to.
This weekend I’m popping up to York to see an old friend and Owain will be there treating the dogs as if they were his own.
And he refuses any payment, just allowing me to take him to appointments and picking up pharmacy and the like.
The world runs on kindnesses like his
And I thank him for it
You are loved, by the community that you love.
ReplyDeleteAnd I love them too , very much 🙏
DeleteYou have the best friends! Sorry work was so hard tho, a good rest was much needed.
ReplyDeleteI do indeed
DeleteOwain is a prince of a friend as well as being a dog lover. Mary and Roger must love him right back! Sweet!
ReplyDeleteHugs!
Dorothy loved him so very deeply too
DeleteFyodor Dostoevsky said words to the effect of beauty will save the world but I think it is kindness.
ReplyDeleteI do too. Kindness oils life gently and with a smile
DeleteIt sounds reciprocal. You take care of each other.
ReplyDeleteWe do indeed and I’m proud of this fact
DeleteKindness begets kindness. xx
ReplyDeleteI love this
DeleteI'm glad you have him, and I'm sure he gets to enjoy the dogs without having to own a dog. Win, win.
ReplyDeleteHe has his own dog, a somewhat bad tempered wire haired fox terrier lol
DeleteThere are more good people in the world than bad - I’m convinced of that x
ReplyDeleteI knowit
DeleteHaving been a dog owner, I can agree that Owain is kindly providing you an invaluable service!
ReplyDeleteA priceless one steve
DeleteI wonder what Owain's real name is? Perhaps it is Roch after the patron saint of dogs and dog lovers. What he has done for you is simply beautiful. Kindness without expectation of reward.
ReplyDeleteThere is more to the story Neil, much more that would make you weep
DeleteBeautiful. True neighbors.
ReplyDeleteI bet you are such a neighbour
Delete‘I get by with a little help from my friends’
ReplyDeleteAmen x
DeleteYou are lucky to have such lovely friends.
ReplyDeleteI have cultivated them , but I like to think we are ALL happy
DeleteNeighbors helping neighbors is the best.
ReplyDeleteIt’s natural , proper bantering
DeleteWe all need to take the time to notice the kindness around us. If we don't the unkindness will become overwhelming. I try my best to be part of that kindness. I belive most people do.
ReplyDelete.
Kindness breeds kindness in my experience , naturally , not forced , but naturally
DeleteAye sir, it is the little acts of kindness of ordinary folk that keeps the evil at bay.
ReplyDeleteEvil hates happiness
DeleteSuch people are a treasure!
ReplyDeleteI think you would be one of them
DeleteReal community spirit

DeleteWe call this in dutch: naoberschap, and we cannot do without it in this world! You are blessed!
ReplyDeletenoaberschap n (uncountable)
Deletethe quality or virtue of neighbourliness, particularly when regarded as a specific cultural trait of the rural inhabitants of the eastern (Low Saxon) Netherlands
Indeed! It is a dialect word, specific for the eastern part of the Netherlands. One of the reasons why I
Deletelike it here, though being a fugitive from Rotterdam.
I loved this, John. Our friends keep us afloat, and we in turn, help them. My friends have literally saved me at some of the worst times in my life. A friend called yesterday to see if I wanted to try his blueberry/yogurt/oats and brought them by with his doggo whom I sit for on the regular. I couldn't have been happier to see them both and was flushed with love from his kindness, and lots of kisses from the doggo. Life is good.
ReplyDeleteYes, so many times this last year old friends have come up trumps
DeleteTrue kindness. I expect Owain loves the dogs as much as they love him. He is a good neighbour, as are you John. Carole R.
ReplyDeleteHe does indeed, especially Roger who he calls his therapy dog
DeleteSorry you had a rough night and hope a good sleep with dogs being well looked after will be a treat. Gigi
ReplyDeleteGigi it was…..I felt like a tired young mother who had just found a perfect babysitter
DeleteYou both do things for each other that is really needed, good neighbours and good friends. ❤️
ReplyDeleteAmen x
DeleteThanks are so important aren't they x
ReplyDeleteAlison in Devon x
I think so, I gave Trendy Carol a lift to pick up her car today and told her to always call me for help, quid pro quo
DeleteWhat a lovely man, Owain.
ReplyDeleteHe’s been very good to me
DeleteIt's so nice to have helpful neighbors.
ReplyDeleteI try to be one too
DeleteHooray for the kindness of Owain! Everyone needs a friend like him.
ReplyDeleteHe is a star
DeleteA backstop for the dogs is something we all need, and it is a true blessing. I am that dog grandma dog sitter; and sometime she lets me sit on the sofa with her!
ReplyDeleteThe dogs love him dearly, it lifts my heart how they ( and especially how my old bulldog Dorothy ) used to to run to him
DeleteThe kindness is wonderful but the love he shares with the dogs is even more special.
ReplyDelete'What goes around comes around' which is exactly how a healthy society functions
