I was writing this and realised Roger was missing. The people who had returned the cups had left the gate open and in a flash he was gone.
I couldn’t find him anywhere, and drove along the main road after searching the nearby gardens
His dim nature means he is terrible in traffic and has no sense of direction for home
I was frantic
Trendy Carol and hubby, other neighbours , and even the postman joined in.
But he wasnt in the sheep fields, down the lane or on the main road.
I drove around the village
But no one had seen him
It was awful
After a time I started up the lane in Bluebell
And there he was with Polish Monika’s hubby and their bulldog
Trotting down the lane as if nothing had happened.
He had nearly got himself knocked over, and was caught in the estate a quarter mile into the village
Thank God most people know and love him
Tracy Manchester has just messaged me saying that he’s come into her house for a drink of water then bolted up the road before she could catch him!
I’m going for a lie down
Our wee deerhead chihuahua (Ducky Doodle, now deceased) once disappeared down our country road in the dark after being let out to do his business. We found him almost a mile away, trotting off to who-
ReplyDeleteknows-where as if he did. He didn't! He would've been coyote fodder. I understand why you need a lie-down after Roger did a runner.
Whew! Oh, Roger!! What a fright and utter relief at his return. Have a well deserved lie down, and then a G&T for good measure.
ReplyDeleteHugs!
He was ready for an adventure. But it's heart stopping when you realize he's gone off out.
ReplyDeleteHeartstopping... oh dear Roger.
ReplyDeleteNaughty Roger wanted a change of scenery.
ReplyDeleteOh my! Definitely time for a lie down. Glad all are now safe & sound at the cottage.
ReplyDeleteStress! You need a counsellor.
ReplyDeleteDog owners worst nightmare 😱
ReplyDeleteGlad Roger wasn't gone for long. Good that most people know him.
ReplyDeletePoor John, you must have been frantic and hardly breathing properly while you were searching. So glad he is home again and that you can now relax.
ReplyDeleteWendy (Wales)
You need a sign on the gate - Please close this gate, an escape artist lives here! I'm glad he was found, safe and sound. Hope your heart has stopped pounding by now. xx
ReplyDeleteForgot to say - I love the Gaelic choir. Wish I had the imagination to come up with an entry!
DeleteSo glad Roger is home safe and sound. As for common sense, if you have to enter a gate to go in then you should know enough to shut it after opening it.
ReplyDeleteCold flannel held over your eyes and a very large gin in the other hand!! Joking aside, so glad the Roger was safely delivered back to you. Jan in CG
ReplyDeleteI would also end up as weak as water and need a lie down with you. Nothing is as stressful as losing the one dog without the all round wit to look after itself.
ReplyDeleteTerrifying! I am super careful about shutting the gates to keep "our" dogs in - one actually ours and one belongs to the kids. My husband, one of life's optimists in general, is less meticulous, saying they won't go anywhere. Because life is not fair, the one time our dog got lost (running after someone she thought she knew, I couldn't catch her or get her attention) and was gone overnight she was with me rather than with him and I was walking her off leash as I usually did in that park because there is a creek to swim in. Never again! I cried for hours over night and we were back searching at 5 AM the next morning - someone saw our announcement and picture of her on Facebook and called us, such a relief. More crying on my part.
ReplyDeletePhew, revisiting trauma.

I’m so glad Roger is home safe and sound!! They have no idea how they scare us!
ReplyDeleteTake care, Carol in Atlanta
oh my....an unauthorized Roger outing.. How stressful for you! Thankfully...he is known, loved and familiar to all.... and safely back home. NO more antics, Roger! Please!
ReplyDeleteSusan M/ Calif.
What a scare! Thank goodness all is well now.
ReplyDeleteMaybe you should consider posting a sign on the gate: "please latch the gate."
Scary! I'd go have a lie down after all that too. Glad it had a happy ending!
ReplyDeleteHow frightening! Our pets are so precious.
ReplyDeleteThose animals will be the death of you ! Hey Ho x
ReplyDeleteOh, Roger Dodger. I’d be having a lie down, too.
ReplyDeleteSo glad that you found Roger..I know how you felt. A couple of weeks after he arrived here, our little rescue dog found a hole under the fence at the bottom of the garden ( probably scraped out by a fox). I could see him next door but when I got round there he wasn't in sight. Cue dashing round to all the nearby houses and connected ,gardens but no little white dog! About 20 mins later he appeared to my husband back in our garden. I think he had probably been in the wilderness next door all along and I hadn't searched properly as I expecting him to be running round barking like he usually does! I am now paranoid when he is in the garden if I can't actually see him. They can be such a worry!
ReplyDeleteOh gosh, what a horrible stressful time for you, and all the helpers trying to find him. :-(
ReplyDeleteOmg, so glad Roger was found! I think many of us know the panic, the dread, and the wild the feelings of helplessness when a dog is lost. It's one reason I keep my Facebook account. SO many lost pets have been found by posting them there. And now with Ring doorbells, we can catch a still picture of a pet, and post it on FB. Many folks in my neighborhood put the GPS tags on their pets that tend to wander.
ReplyDeleteOff on an unsupervised adventure. Looking forward to hearing all about the flower show.
ReplyDeleteThe same thing happened here a short time ago. Fortunately my neighbor saw them and brought them back. They both looked quite happy to be a the front door, coming home.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad Roger was found.
Oh, I'm glad he was found safe. What a worry for you.
ReplyDeleteThe flower show should be terrific!
I’m worried about entries
DeleteOh Roger, what an adventure but what a worry for your Dad! So glad he was found safe and well. They are enough to give us a heart attack. It's not only the going missing it's the "did they get across the roads safely". I haven't had a dog for years but my cat's give me jip every time they go out. Lost 2 to the road outside my house and sweat bullets when they are out.
