This is worth seeing
Not the Japanese Ballet but a wonderful interpretation
The cottage was valued today, so it looks neat a tidy.
The assessor told me it was the most cosy and sweet cottage she had valued since she last saw in back in 2018 when it was up for sale before the divorce
“ How are you?” She asked me without any edge and the question caught me totally unawares
I almost teared up but didn’t and she was gracious enough not to notice ,
but merely said
“There’s a lot of love put into this home”
I smiled
And as she assessed upstairs the postman arrive with flowers from blog reader Kath
A lovely kindness
The assessor walked down the stairs and said
“ lovely new bathroom , I like it”
I preened
And suddenly
Weaver stalked past us with a dead shrew in her mouth
Of course she did. That is just as likely to have happen as one of the cats upchucking on the carpet in front of her feet. Don't you just love them?
ReplyDeleteNo lol
DeleteWould getting a room mate help with the mortgage payments. Perhaps a student, an age group I think would benefit from your company.
ReplyDeleteNot really xx
DeleteMesmerising video.
ReplyDeleteHaving the cottage valued? I hope you don't have to sell up 😔
Me neither
DeleteJust letting you know she's about and keeping the rodent population in check! I hope the valuation is just for your information and nothing more sinister. xx
ReplyDeleteDitto xx
DeleteI am of the firm belief that we owe a blogger, whose writing gives us pleasure daily, at least the price of a book. I know you’ve said no before but please if it comes to losing your home let us do a go fund me. It won’t be charity, it will be money fairly owed. You’re in my thoughts x Jane
ReplyDeleteXx
DeleteI agree! I'd be so happy to contribute, this blog has been a daily ''friend'' through so many bad times/ good times for me. If we all just send something.
DeleteI agree!
DeleteMe too! Your writing is a delight.
DeleteYes! I said this several days ago. It is NOT charity ! It is paying back for a wonderful gift. Just make the Go Fund Me work for U.S. readers, too, please. I NEED this blog in my life!
DeleteCalm down everyone. Please, it is a lovely thing to say, but John does NOT need gifts and charity. If you want to help then please donate to a local Welsh charity to help the genuinely poor and needy. I know that John would be extremely embarrassed if you gave him money and not the local poor and needy. The Samaritans, who you will know that John used to work for, are having to shut branches due to a lack of funding. Google Samaritans to donate. Anon regular reader.
DeleteTo Anon regular reader .never ever give to a charity with a CEO, they cream off all the money, little goes to the good cause they supposedly represent.
Deleteas usual for these charities. The CEO gets paid nearly £150k and other members of the "leadership team" get paid well whilst the actual hard work is done by unpaid volunteers.
Give to charity ? no thanks, give to the blog owner , yes i would ,and no its not charity it would be like helping out a friend
Above - that's an urban myth and often used by cautious people not to give money to charities. I could not let it go by without correction.
DeleteI agree YP. The CEOs of charities earn their money by bringing in years of experience and their contacts into the fund raising side and efficient running of the charity. They would not be paid that sort of money if they did not bring MORE than that sort of money into the organisation. I get so sick of hearing that donations just go to fund their lavish lifestyles, they are some of the hardest working people I have met, and usually step down when they think that someone is better qualified to be in the position.
DeleteOh jonno
ReplyDeleteOh xxxx
Lee
Weaver cracks me up. These are brilliant theatrical scenes.
ReplyDeleteOh Weaver lol - at least she didn't let a live one loose. Such timing. Hopefully the assessor is a cat person.
ReplyDeleteOur family home went on the market. Potential buyer pulled into our driveway and we’re laughing hysterically. Perky, our wire fox terrier was to the right of the driveway furiously digging and trying to bury one of Mom’s pancakes.
ReplyDeleteCats have such a razor-sharp sense of timing . . .
ReplyDeleteI hope something turns up and you can stay there, John.
Weaver never disappoints!
ReplyDeleteExactly!
Deleteweavinfool
I have one like that. Always bring us little gifts, but running with them instead.
ReplyDelete"Hilarion's death" -- was that the name of the shrew? If not, it should have been.
ReplyDeleteYou almost got through the assessment without any comic relief and then....a dead shew being carried, nonchalantly no doubt.
ReplyDeleteAtta girl, Weaver! 🐈⬛🥰
ReplyDeleteAre you selling??? Where would you go; Madrid?
ReplyDeleteI hope you don't have to sell and that somehow you manage to supplement the developing counselling work until it has time to grow. Your cottage is very much a loved home and it's so upsetting for you.
ReplyDeleteListen to the heart of your reader family, John. We know you are "expecting the worst but hoping for the best" by having the valuation, but if necessary swallow your pride and allow/accept such a good idea as a Gofundme. Not charity, just pay back and appreciation. Think of it as literary subscription fees paid!
ReplyDeleteYorkshire Liz, well said could not agree more
DeleteHaving your home evaluated gave someone the opportunity to appreciate it and the effort that has gone into making it welcoming. That's good - and even better if you don't have to sell.
ReplyDeleteYou can't make proper decisions without all the facts. The value of your lovely cottage is one of the facts.
ReplyDeleteThat is a cat with attitude. She is quite a character.
ReplyDeleteFingers crossed for you, please keep us posted. And I love Weaver's attitude. Jxx
ReplyDeleteI hope you don't have to sell. Is there anywhere in the village that you can at least downsize to as you won't want to leave the village? Please don't sell and go in to rented; you might never get back on the property ladder. Even if it means doing jobs you don't like until the counselling picks up or you can get a job nursing in a hospital or somewhere - even if you have to go full time again - hang on to your home one way or another. You'll regret it otherwise, I fear. Best wishes, Ruth
ReplyDeleteIf you saw the size of John's gorgeous little cottage in real life you would realise that downsizing would mean living in a garden shed. It's beautiful but tiny, as is his garden. ❤️
DeleteIf I was a close member of your family with money in the bank, I would happily offer you a loan with manageable terms to ensure that you do not have to sell your much loved corner cottage. Perhaps one of them is reading this comment.
ReplyDeletePerhaps it is Weaver's namesake letting you know, from the other side, no worries, John, All shall be well.
ReplyDeleteWeaver ... bringing you back down to earth one rodent at a time. :-)
ReplyDeleteHey Dad can I have a fry up??
ReplyDeleteHugs
Bun
Gathering all of the facts? Further evidence of intelligence and heart. Time will tell, but it helps to be prepared for whatever comes your way.
ReplyDeletePlease think about Go Fund Me. Over the years your postings have brightened my mornings. Love hearing about the antics of your pets.
ReplyDeleteTo anon regular reader. Please don't tell me how to spend my money. I think a go fund me is a splendid idea. This blog got me through several lockdowns in some sort of sane state and I for one would jump at the chance to show my appreciation.
ReplyDeleteAnon reader you are SO right. I used SAMS again and again when going through marriage endings. As a giving and charitable person you can bet that John would prefer donations to SAMS after all he has a real family who could help him out if he is really struggling with money. Please please don't shame him into accepting charity even as payment for the blog. Don't forget he owns the cottage which is SO much more than some people have in Wales and you can be sure that he knows this too and that he will be OK at the end of the day. Thank you everyone for caring though and please give to SAMS or a charity of your choosing!
ReplyDeleteAnother vote here for Samaritans
DeleteIt nice that you got sweet compliments on your home.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Anon Regular Reader. There are numerous people going through similar situations to John. Many of whom don't have families who can financially support them as John's family can. What individuals do with their money is their business, but, John is in NOW WAY DESTITUTE LOOK AT HIS LIFESTYLE! If John needs the money that much, yhen he can cut back on trips abroad and to the ballet and opera. Marqueetv has all the ballet and yheatre needed. Not the same as experiencing, but a frugal way to get his fix of the arts.
ReplyDeleteIt’s a bit early to be on the sauce!
DeleteTo know the truth does NOT suggest intoxication. To insinuate DOES imply inebriation of some kind...
DeleteJealous. Obviously. And so self righteous. We who love John are here for him. We can't make everything wrong right, We can't take care of all the less fortunate. But we CAN help John who has given us so much. If you don't agree, then put your money somewhere else. I enjoy going places with John. Especially to Madrid. Wouldn't even know that Lisping Choir existed if he had not shared them.
Deletedid you ever finish school?

DeletePlan for the worst, hope for the best. Sending hugs.
ReplyDeleteWhat is a charming cottage for if not to be a place where cats come and go doing all the things that cats do?
ReplyDeleteHang in there, John. Seems like a lot of people have your back.
Have you actually been told that you're being made redundant? Or just getting people geared up to start a Go Fund Me? These funding sites are for people that genuinely NEED help, you're not one of them How much have you spent on trips abroad, to the cinema, theater, meals out,
ReplyDeleteand unnecessary purchases up to now this year?
Soon you'll be boasting about the banknotes that arrived in the post as you did after your last pleading of poverty. Sadly some readers are more gullible than others.
At last someone has some common sense and is being honest. Look we all like Johns blog but for goodness sake he's not a charity case or in poverty. He goes to the movies, has been to Spain, he owns his own home, he can afford nice food to make for other people, and more beside.
DeleteJohn has always flatly refused help. I was just saying I feel I owe him the price of a book. I read his lovely writing everyday. Jane
DeleteLee where are you. Your pithy put downs are needed!
ReplyDeleteI’m here but late
DeleteWhat a fucking wanker!!!!!
