Ma Manley has added my cottage to her history book of Trelawnyd.
This has pleased me greatly. I feel honoured to have my own page so to speak.
In Welsh Bwthyn translates as “Cottage” where as y llan means “an enclosure, a religious place of settlement or even a Church” So my home can be known as Church Cottage in English .
In its past it was known as Llan Cottage no 1 and the two cottages together as a generic Tan y Fynwent ( under the Graveyard)
"Church Cottage" -- charming! So is the little painting of it.
ReplyDeleteI’m whimsy π‘
DeleteOh, that's a lovely painting. What a talented lady, and such dedication to record the village. xx
ReplyDeleteShe is an asset to Trelawnyd, I’m glad she’s using my history blog as some back up
DeleteYikes! I like Church Cottage better than Under the Graveyard!
ReplyDeleteLOL
DeleteGet Ma Manley to print you a copy. It should be on your wall.
ReplyDeleteI’m hoping she may paint me another
DeleteDo you have an old slate from your roof hanging around some place? It would be a wonderful 'canvas' to recreate her beautiful painting on. I love it.
DeleteLovely painting of your delightful Church Cottage and another wonderful painting by Ma Manley. What talent she has and you're right to be well chuffed at her inclusion of your home in her book about Trelawnyd. Sweet!
ReplyDeleteHugs!

DeleteHow good to live somewhere where there is some traceable history. I love the illustration too.
ReplyDeleteThe cottage was an ale or wine house too, an independent house that sold alcohol and probably was a small meeting home, a tiny pub
DeleteNice illustration! Who lives in the adjacent cottage? I'm not sure you've mentioned your next-door neighbors, or maybe you have and I just didn't realize they live next door.
ReplyDeleteA couple in their seventies sailor John and Mandy
DeleteLovely couple who are always there but who ARE NOT in your face
The ideal neighbors! I have one like that too -- she's nice and we say hello but she's not all up in our business.
DeleteJohn is a practical man who always comes up trumps when you need help.
DeleteBeautuful painting! But how Welsh that the name of the your gorgeous little cottage is also the direction of where to find it. There is something very calm and restful about your home, and not everyone can say that.
ReplyDeleteThank you liz
DeleteA lovely addition to Trelawnyd history
ReplyDeleteI’m a part of its history !
DeleteThat is a beautiful painting. What an honour.

ReplyDeleteI was very moved by her hard work
DeleteExciting. And I love her illustrative paintings.

DeleteI love it. A talented lady.

DeleteShe's captured the charm of your cottage perfectly. That just has to be framed and put on the wall.
ReplyDeleteAnd always archived in the book of Trelawnyd
DeleteWhat an honour!

DeleteVery interesting, and Ma Manley is a fabulous folk painter. Yes you need a framed copy on your wall. My next doors are like yours, always there but never in your face. We all look out for each other. They help me to be able to stay in my house. So nice that you are included in Ma Manley’s charming book. Gigi
ReplyDeleteYes my neighbours have always been there.
DeleteAfter my admission to A&E recently Mandy was there with a bunch of flowers
Your cottage is gorgeous inside and out. More to the point it has a great deal of history so i t's a really worthy inclusion in the book. A lovely painting.
ReplyDeleteI just read about Roger taking himself on a walk. How well I know the gut churning feeling of that situation!
That reminds me I need to drop off a bottle of wine to monika’s hubby for finding him
DeleteYour slice of living history.
ReplyDeleteI’m happy to stay here, I’m lucky
DeleteI live in my parents deco NEW YORK apartment , with original floors, and bathtub, that’s as far as I go
DeleteYour cottage is hundreds of years older . It blows my mind
Lee
I love the curve of American art deco baths
DeleteLovely addition to the chronicle. It looks as if the Welsh word is like the Scottish bothy.
ReplyDeleteFunny, that Ma Manley’s family lived in Scotland highlands
DeleteI was a Campbell so very much Scottish roots way back
DeleteYour cottage reminds me of the quintessential English cottage, or in this case, Welsh cottage. Lovely.
ReplyDeleteRoses around the door
DeleteThat is seriously beautiful.

DeleteA copy of the painting of your home would be nice on your art wall.
ReplyDeleteYes, I already have ma manleys block print of the church on the art wall
DeleteIn classical Welsh "Bwthyn y llan" means something like "den of iniquity" though some scholars would argue it means "the dog house" - hence the expression - "You are in the dog house".
ReplyDeleteDen of iniquity
DeleteFucking chance would be a fine thing

ReplyDeleteI think you are right, possibly my next night class
DeleteShe could make a good living painting portraits of local houses, churches and pubs.
ReplyDeleteI would love her to teach me her talent for block printing. If we can design one for the village hall we could sell them to raise money
DeleteI would buy one in a heartbeat!
DeleteAbsolutely wonderful!

DeleteChurch Cottage! I love it! And is that a watercolor? Just precious. Now you need an outdoor plaque with your home's name on it.
