Today it’s back to normal
Sat at the kitchen table
Planning and writing my last counselling essay…
My trip to London with my sister Janet is now in its fifth year
We have seen two Royal Ballets, three musicals and have eaten well all over London
A tradition which needs continuing
Janet loves London and so do I
I also love the fact she gains so much pleasure from the effort of going.
On Friday night, I suggested we walked from Covent Garden up the Strand towards Piccadilly.
On the way we entered Trafalger Square
She had never been
And her joy was palpable ,
At Piccadilly she photographed the diving sculptures from a nearby building I had never noticed
Ok we had a fraught moment in the Opera House where she couldn’t switch off her mobile phone
But the incident made us chuckle long and hard on the way home , on the train journey from hell.
That's real soul food

DeleteLovely photos and it sounds like a great time was had by you both. There's something magical about introducing anyone to a new thing or place, and watching their eyes light up with genuine pleasure isn't there. ❤️
ReplyDeleteYes, I’ve done that with Janet a couple of times, I remember taking her to New York for her first visit
DeleteIt is a gift to be able to take pleasure in everything around. Too many can't or won't.
ReplyDeleteYes I agree so much to this
DeleteSeeing things through someone else's eyes is so special. I'm so glad the tradition continues and gives you both so much pleasure. Will you go to the VE day celebration tea? I hope so. Carry on the enjoyment! xx
ReplyDeleteI missed it but it looked lovely , I will show the link tomorrow
DeleteBeautiful pics, love the gold statues. It is so lovely that you both enjoyed London and the shows so much. I feel quite joyful just reading if it all. Carole R.
ReplyDeleteI feel refreshed too
DeleteTrafalger Square is one of the few places I've been in London so I share your sister's joy in having seen it for the first time. I remember that feeling!
ReplyDeleteI loved her sudden joy at seeing it
DeleteI got swamped by pigeons on Trafalgar square while stupidly, on my part, trying to feed them seed... it frightened the life out of me, you truly couldn't see me at all. But I loved Trafalgar square none the less.
DeleteFab photos.
ReplyDelete🏊🏻♂️
DeleteSounds like a wonderful time in London. Such lovely memories to share.
ReplyDeleteMy old me,ories of London were always husband based, it’s nice to change that
DeleteYou and Janet have made a true annual multi-day birthday event. So much fun and there is not a better way to celebrate.
ReplyDeleteWe did have a giggle on the way home she asked me what a handle was for on the train seat in front
DeleteIt was her suitcase
What joyous memories you and Janet have made from the 5 years of happy trips to and from London near time for your joint birthday! And what amazing photos from this journey.
ReplyDeleteGlory be - your LAST counselling essay for all time. May you already be finished writing it!
Are you going to the village VE celebration?
Hugs!
I finished the essay just before The Archers
DeleteI missed the VE Day tea.x
I loved my time living in London; one feels part of something 'important'. Yes, certainly a tradition worth keeping.
ReplyDeleteI’m not sure I’d want to live there
DeleteIt’s like having a child to babysit
It’s lovely in brief spurts
Thank you for that picture of the diving sculptures. How very, very cool.
ReplyDeleteAnd by not looking up once, we would have missed them
Deletesounds like you had a great time in London..... i love the photos..... we recently exclaimed how nice it is to go away but how nice it is to return home..... do you feel like that?
ReplyDeleteOf course, but I am a city boy at my heart so I miss museums, and theatre and cafes and book shops , but there is enough of these to keep me happy here
DeleteMaybe when you graduate and get going w counseling, you'll consider establishing your practice back in a city. Maybe Sheffield? I can see you in a chic flat in the city. The pets would do fine, you no longer have the big farm population to care for. Rent, no mortgage. Central heating! No upkeep of the building or grounds. Just a thought. I so imagine that for you.
DeleteSo glad you & Janet had such a lovely birthday celebration! Long may they continue!
ReplyDeleteIt’s now a yearly tradition
DeleteWhat a perfect Christmas/ birthday gift for you both! It sounds delightful. [why was the trian ride ''from hell''? You expected it t be relaxing?]
ReplyDeleteMy ex DH collects Art Deco lamps and bronzes , many with diving or dancing figures loke the ones on that building. So interesting to see these.
‘THE THREE GRACES'
DeleteCommissioned for the Criterion Building,
Haymarket, Piccadilly. Unveiled January 1992.
so these divers are modern not art deco.
Lizzy thank you for the background they are quite beautiful
DeleteAstounding really, how they arch out into the air!
DeleteLizzy
I love that Eros pic, well done Sissy.
ReplyDeleteShe’ll love that comment
DeleteWhat a great tradition for you two.
ReplyDeleteIt's easy to miss the divers, they're so high up! Glad you got a photo.
