As an American, please let me say to the world, many of us are ashamed of our country. I told my 20 year old grandson not to stay in this country -j there is no future for him here. I am sorry.

  3. I'm reminded of the saying, "The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing". Thank goodness the democratic world is making its voice heard - at last. I just hope it's not too late. xx

And now he has signed an executive order designating English as the official language of America, and the tariffs to be imposed on Canada and Mexico on Tuesday might not be 25% after all!

I’m an American who did not vote for this and don’t understand why Congress is not stopping this idiocy.

Same here! I simply cannot understand it.

    2. The majority party in the US Senate and the US House of Representatives is the Republican Party. The Republican members of Congress are (for the most part) spineless and unwilling to move against Trump & Vance. Republicans had their opportunity to neuter Trump earlier and failed to do so when they did NOT vote to impeach him and remove him from office.

At least the rest of the world saw how weak the bully really is. Hard to watch for the non believers, or should say the non cultists. Canada and Europe are ready to act. Gigi

  8. US citizen here, people in other countries around the world need to know that there are millions of people here in the US who were horrified at that disgusting display on the part of the President and Vice President in the Oval office. I am ashamed of this country.

  9. "Our common value base is not that common any more" -- how true and how sad. And if anyone can (and should) get choked up about the horrors of a fascist society, it's a German.

Our family did not vote for this either and I remain convinced that this evil was brought about by election interference. The Republicans from decades ago would not have allowed this and are certainly appalled from wherever they are now

    Hugs!

  11. I did not vote for this awful president that we are now stuck with. Please know that there are millions and millions of us who are shocked, angered, disgusted, and horrified that this terrible man is ruining our country and harming the world. I hope he can be stopped.

  14. It does my heart good to see the public empathy and support from world leaders. They have a voice that the average person does not.

I am MORTIFIED that our country is being represented by such a bastard. Every morning, I wake up and check the news to see if by chance somebody took him out the night before. NO? Damn! Obviously, I didn't vote for him, but too many people did, and it is so hard to understand why they thought he was their Saviour. He is doing terrible things to our standing in our world, and to our country. Please accept my apology for all the angst being foisted onto mankind by him.

  16. As a reluctant citizen, veteran and past medical officer of the US, I am mortified by the cowardly excuses for people that are 'governing' the US now.
    My apologies to the world.

  17. As an American, I stand with all those supporting VZ. The horrifying stunt by DT and JDV is visible to the world, and we must voice our disapproval. Never in my lifetime did I think such behavior could come out of the White House.

  18. Thank you for posting this John. It is a good for us to be confronted by what we have unleashed on the world. I did not vote for him.

That speaker? That could have been me, today. I am really grieving right now. I never thought that I would see these events unfolding in my own country, while people cheered.

I don’t know, Cro, because all the Republicans seem to be doubling down on how disrespectful and rude Zelenskyy was, nothing said about Trump and Vance’s behaviour, thus giving their base the lead on how they should decry him going forward. And it started immediately afterwards. Depressing.
They’ll not rest until they try and force Zelenskyy out.

    2. There's a very different view on this side of the pond. People have been horrified by their behaviour. Even asking Zelensky why he didn't wear a suit; would they have asked that of a Saudi Prince?

I'm confident the voices in opposition to Trump/Vance will grow much louder in the U.S. Those who were foolish enough to vote for them are beginning to see the betrayal.
How to stop the wrecking ball is the big question but I have to believe we will eventually course-correct. I just hope to live long enough to see it.

Thank you, John, for including such videos and remarks. The US press doesn't, and some of us US readers want to connect with others in Europe and elsewhere who continue to uphold shared values.

I’ve been so outraged since Friday’s White House debacle. My mind has been stuck on several comments from Gemma’s Person on your blog. She said more than once: “It wasn’t bullying it was tough love.” I want to ask her tough love for WHAT? What did Zelensky do that requires tough love? He is an ally. His country was attacked. He had fought for 3 years! He has lost thousands of citizens. What has he done to deserve such unAmerican treatment? Suz from LA

  27. This administration (if I can even call it that) is appalling. We are trying to resist it here but will need help from our elected leaders and law enforcement. Wish us luck.
