Steve is SO right! My desk at work was always under a foot deep in spiked stories, dumped press releases and old sandwich wrappers. Oh, and about twenty lost pens. If you could see a clear surface there was something wrong. Only a meticulous nurse would consider that lovely desk untidy!
It’s my first proper desk. I bought a Victorian one in the early 2000s but Chris took it over to use and took it when we divorced. I didn’t mind I kind of hated it
You haven't seen untidy till you've seen David (i.e. Travel Penguin's) desk. It's downright alarming! By coincidence, Debra, he is also a lawyer who desk looks like a bomb went off... really.
Surely you jest! Your desk is so much neater than many flat spots in our house. Our desks and other flat spots would be neat as a pin if they were vertical! Love the things on your wall over your desk.
Yes my favourite art pieces sit above my desk A Welsh watercolour by joseiah Clinton jones, a watercolour of a Yorkshire village church, a scetch of a Llandudno goat , a lovely painting of sea pinks , a Chinese watercolour of runner ducks and hens and a handmade card of a goldfish which got me a little way through my divorce ( made by a blogger)
Ha!! It depends what you can cope with, I suppose. My workstation is covered with neat(ish) piles of embroidery project, samples and the preliminary artwork. I can instantly (who am I kidding! Well, quickly) put my hands on the work for whatever I need to, but pristine it is not.
You need to see Alan's desk, now that is the messiest desk ever. Oh, and mine is in my little kitchen and has a microwave, next to a stack of diaries and work related documents on it, so you win for neatness on this occasion.
Are you being sarcastic? That is VERY tidy! You should work in a newsroom and see what an average reporter's desk looks like.

DeleteI’m flattered and amused. Looking at the below comments there is a general consensus that I’m rather more neat than I thought I was
DeleteJohn, you even inspired me to write a reminiscence of "untidy desks I have known." LOL!
DeleteHmmmm. So what would you call 'tidy''? ;-)
ReplyDeleteTo me it’s terribly untidy
DeleteAre you planning on sending it to the Tate?
ReplyDeleteOnly if they pay me
DeleteWork in progress. Nothing wrong with that
ReplyDeleteIt’s my first proper desk. I bought a Victorian one in the early 2000s but Chris took it over to use and took it when we divorced. I didn’t mind I kind of hated it
DeleteIs this really what your desk looks like when it’s untidy? That surprises me.
ReplyDeleteI think I need to see all of these scruffy desks
DeleteYou should see what untidy looks like, mine. Gigi
ReplyDeleteSee above lol
DeleteIt looks very tidy to me.
ReplyDeletelol more praise
DeleteIt's a LOT tidier than mine!
ReplyDeleteI worked with a lawyer once whose office always looked like a bomb had just gone off. How he ever found anything, I'll never know.
ReplyDeleteThe village postmistress jenny, spent her time in her post office surrounded by what looked like an explosion in paper factory
DeleteHave to agree with others, that looks very tidy and organised to me. xx
ReplyDeletelol okokok it’s tidy!!!!

ReplyDeleteDavid did you read this comment. Let’s see
DeleteIf I was home, I would send you a photo of a messy desk. It was even worse when I worked and had two computers on it.
ReplyDeleteLooks tidy enough, John, but you need a light on your desk.
ReplyDeleteI have an antique anglepoise lamp that I use
DeleteI still see desk surface, so you're not even close to untidy. in fact, it looks inviting.
ReplyDeleteThank you deArheart
DeleteNot at all untidy. But you need a better chair. How can you sit and work, big guy like you, on a tiny backless stool ! Lizzy d
ReplyDeleteIt makes me sit straight lizzy
Deletemuch cleaner than mine!
ReplyDeleteWho is you
DeleteSurely you jest! Your desk is so much neater than many flat spots in our house. Our desks and other flat spots would be neat as a pin if they were vertical!

Looking at a close up of the desk top, I spy a dog and some tiny New York skyscrapers ???
DeleteIs that right?
Lee
The skyscrapers are the only thing remaining when a friend broke my saks snow globe, I will always keep it
DeleteDo u want me to buy you a new one ?
DeleteLee
Please
DeleteThe liquid in snow globes can be deadly for dogs. Probly ok for mature dogs but maybe not if you get a puppy. Might be better as is.
DeleteCall that untidy? I think not.
ReplyDeleteTee hee
DeleteThanks for the laugh today!
ReplyDeleteIt was a lazy post, I have been cleaning out several kitchen cabinets all day
DeleteGorgeous desk. Well done. Marjorie in snowy Canada
ReplyDeleteJohn Lewis xx
DeleteLooks tidy to me. I must add that I like your yellow wall color.
ReplyDeleteI’ve always wanted a yellow room
DeleteThat's the tidiest untidy desk I've ever seen. :)
ReplyDeleteBloody hell I want you ALL to send me your desk photos
DeleteTidy desk tidy mind. Mind of an experienced senior nurse sits at that desk. I'd love to see your stitches!
ReplyDeleteI like that you acknowledge that ,
DeleteHi Keith here
ReplyDeleteWhat discs do u like !? I see a turntable
Xx
I’m listening to Edith Piaf
DeleteToo much unrelated study stuff , should be scattered with paper, coffee mugs empty choc packets, crisp packets and an empty whisky glass now 😍😂
ReplyDeleteI don’t drink whisky
DeletePerhaps compared to a nurse's station, it's a bit crowded. Compared to my desk, it's pristine. I'm very organised, but untidy with it.
ReplyDeleteI love the stuff on your desk John, and the artwork above it. But you need a much comfier chair, my love.
ReplyDeleteSue C
Untidy? You've got to be kidding!
ReplyDeleteYou obviously haven't seen genuine 'untidy'. My desk in France is probably the best example.
ReplyDeleteHa!! It depends what you can cope with, I suppose. My workstation is covered with neat(ish) piles of embroidery project, samples and the preliminary artwork. I can instantly (who am I kidding! Well, quickly) put my hands on the work for whatever I need to, but pristine it is not.
ReplyDeleteI join the chorus of dissent! Roger Hargreaves would have named you Mr Tidy - at least as far as the desk is concerned!

ReplyDeleteI've seen untidy desks and yours is not even close.
