Anger

King Filipe and Queen Letizia were pelted with mud by some of the frustrated and angry residents of Valencia today. I was saddened by the footage today, saddened for the people and saddened for the royal family, whose intentions were sincere.

As a nurse, and now a trainee therapist, I’ve always known that anger, is the easiest emotion to mobilise when things goes tits up
It’s the most irrational emotional  and hardest to deal with, and from what I could tell Filipe and Letizia did their very best against incredible odds.

I remember as a staff nurse on intensive care being wing man to a consultant who was giving bad news to a family. I remember so clearly the Blind fury of the father as he raised his fist to strike the doctor as I stood between them and “ shushed” him as a mother would do to crying child.
The shushing worked, it diffused the anger, but not the pain

Thank goodness

I’m still feeling rough, and I write this in bed, with the kittens purring like aircraft

  1. So much of the world is suffering and/or in turmoil. And you are right. The kneejerk response is always anger.

    2. That's something to consider right there, John. That's where I have a hard time. Dealing with the anger of others. I try not to respond in kind, but I can tell you that any response seems to be ineffective in my part of the world. I would love to have the power to de-escalate anger.

  2. I do believe that a lot of anger comes from fear and frustration. It also seems to be the hardest emotion to deal with, both in oneself and others. Calm and quiet is the way, as you demonstrated.
I hope you are starting to feel a bit better day by day. It's certainly been a bugger of a bug! xx

My heart breaks for the folks in Spain, but I am so sad that they would be so unruly with the King and Queen. Clearly, the storm is not their fault.

I am also sorry that the unreasonable anger phenom has taken hold across the sea. Here in the US, I just made a grocery store run to ensure that I do not have to leave my house if the MAGAhats get unruly after the election Tuesday. Former Girl Scout, always be prepared...

Seriously? Joe Biden isn’t on the ticket because he has dementia. I can’t afford groceries or gas. But Donald Trump is the problem. I love this blog. You are an intelligent man. Don’t fall for the hysteria. Peace out. Hope you feel better.

  8. I have had a similar experience with a relative, I thought he was going to punch me on the side of the head, he lifted his fist to strike. Always had a wing man from then on. Completely dismaying a certain politician chooses to ferment anger in his country to get a win. Love his country he certainly does not.

I share your fear that trump will regain power here...it's hard to believe with him revealing, day after day, the depth of his racism, misogyny, perversion and putrid parts of his personality. I despair for the US
I loved Valencia, it was a favorite city of mine. The Roman ruins there were amazing. I hope the people and the city can recover.
I'm sorry you're sick...do you know what virus it is? My youngest, Emily, has covid, her first time. She's on Paxlovid, and 3 days in is doing ok.
    Take care, my friend.

A lot of interest here in the US in epidemiological circles (a fun bunch!) in the uptick in "walking pneumonia" over the last few months, particularly right now. Evidently it doesn't respond to the normal pneumonia antibiotics.....anyway something to avoid. Hope you can start to put it in the rear view mirror soon! Ceci

  13. An ability to stay calm amidst strong anger is a real skill.
The King and Queen are admirable people and outstanding role models.
This illness is holding on far too long. Hopefully the sweet purr of kitties provides some nice comfort.

Misplaced anger is damaging and seldom helpful. I'm out of sorts this evening for no apparent reason but mayhap it's election concerns.
Did anyone see Kamala on Saturday Night Live last night? You can find it on YouTube.
    Wishing you well, John.

From what I read it was because of their slow response, but I don't know much about it. Regardless, I can understand these people went through a devastating experience and need to vent their anger.

Win or lose trump and his goons will surely cause problems in the U.S. I fear for the normal law abiding citizens. I can’t go through another four years seeing his ugly self every time I turn on the TV. I might just have to get fid of all the news channels for my sanity. I find myself getting more depressed every time I hear his rants, even though I don’t live in the U.S. Maybe the women will vote for Kamila stealthily. Keep those kittens close and feel better soon, John. Gigi

I agree with Sue and you. Getting angry at something over which you have zero control doesn’t do anyone any good. Getting angry and then doing something about it is productive.

I understand the anger. Here in the US many people are angry with the Biden administration for their response to recent hurricanes. $750 won't go far, and they are especially angry because money has been spent on illegal immigrants. My cousin from North Carolina had to abandon her home. In her car ride to safety she saw some horrible horrible things. It seems this happens with many of the administrations. I remember Bush being bashed for his response.

    1. Just a note that FEMA emergency disaster money has never been spent on any immigration needs. It's not legal to do so. Also, the $750 is intended for emergency needs like food, water, etc. Your cousin can apply for other assistance. Please do your research before spreading disinformation.

Oh please. You do understand the upset regarding money is going to illegal aliens that can be redirected elsewhere. No need to lecture me about doing my research.

  27. It's really crossing a line when you pelt your own royal family with mud isn't it. Everyone seems to expect immediate reactions to all problems and trauma these days, although it's good when it can happen sometimes it just isn't possible.

I too, am not looking forward to the outcome of the US elections if they swing the wrong way. There will be a lot of violence.
