It’s raining and I’m taking the dogs over to Pen y Bont for lunch at my friends’ home soon.
The twins, of course have the run of the cottage, and photographing them is almost impossible as they resemble minnows in a fast stream. The best you can get is an arse here and a leg there.
The way of kittens.
I’ve had them nearly three months now and their personalities are starting to show.
Weaver is bigger than her sister, more robust but emotionally is shy and is not a big one for physical affection. Bun is smaller, feisty, likes strokes when the lights are off and is playful with the terriers, though the terriers have no idea what is play and what is kitten aggression .
Both have allocated themselves to a small yellow chair in the back of the living room. It a spot they can survey their world safely.
The cottage looks permanently untidy as a thousand times a day these two little thugs, promenade around knocking over things, just like a motorcycle gang of the 1960s would do around Woolworths.
Roger is perplexed by their behaviour and will often shadow them from afar , looking back at me in a shocked way when another pot plant is moved or ornament battered.
Oh, they are growing up. Darling Roger, he's acting like the older brother, shocked at the behaviour which, not too long ago, he would be doing! I can almost hear his exasperated sighs from here! xx
ReplyDeleteHe’s a delight…..as they gallop up the stairs he totters after them on tip toe
DeleteIt makes me smile
They look so big. Sounds like they are just the right match for the dogs.
ReplyDeleteEvery day we have less spitting
DeleteThey are teaching him to keep his distance.
DeleteNow, you spitting out your coffee ,that is another hurdle.
Pandemonium!!
ReplyDelete🐈⬛🐈⬛
DeleteWhat descriptive powers you have! Perfect!
ReplyDeleteHum xx
DeleteJust when I think I couldn't love Roger more something else emerges.
ReplyDeleteCeci
He’s a delight . Tonight proves this, when the twins fought , knocking books off the shelves
DeleteHe sat with me looking serious
In a few months they will be cats and hopefully they’ll settle in and become polite members of the Gray gang. Have fun today John. Gigi
ReplyDeleteHang on
DeleteIt is so entertaining to watch the reaction of elder animals when young ones arrive on the scene. Are you going to let them do that? Do you see what they did? Oh crap are they in trouble now! We had two black cats in the States. Hard enough to get good photos even when they weren’t moving. But hearing your stories makes me so happy (that they’re not destroying MY house).
ReplyDeleteI have to weather the storm
DeleteKittens are a complete pain. We adopted a pair when our youngest cat was nearly a year old. It was good for him because he was still a bit feral. I didn’t appreciate it when the kittens started to climb the Xmas tree and the one year old thought that was a great idea. Xmas tree was removed that year.
ReplyDeleteThey are arseholes lol
DeleteThe joys of having toddlers around the house.
ReplyDeleteHiummm
DeleteKittens are adorable but exhausting, it's a good thing they grow up quickly.
ReplyDeleteAlison in Wales x
I hope so
DeleteOh gosh, they sound so like my old cat Archie (but look like my cats Toby and Tess, also brother and sister). Archie never realised his size and being a huge fluff ball with a tail like a feather duster meant he went through life knocking everything off tables, cupboards and shelves. Luckily we had Sophie the Border Collie to hoover up all the spilt food. :-)
ReplyDeleteI can't believe it's been almost three months already. Knocking things off counters, tables, and windowsills is why kittens drive me crazy. They sure look cute though. Poor Roger. Charlie comes to tell me when the cat has done something.
ReplyDeleteHave they shown you any sign of affection yet? I expect they'll drive everyone crazy for a while to come.
ReplyDeleteYou sound like you are enjoying their antics and they are making themselves at home. You have patience with your pets, John. How nice that they are all figuring out how to get along.
ReplyDeleteThe kittens have grown to a good size. Their energy is always fun to watch but things do get tossed about. You, Mary and Roger will likely be glad when they settle beyond the kitten stage.
ReplyDeleteKittens are rambunctious children, aren't they? I love the visual image of Roger looking to you for explanation of why they are getting away with this mess.
ReplyDeleteAnd there you have it, the reason I don't do animals - Bel Ami
ReplyDeleteAh, time to kitten-proof the cottage. By that I mean put the precious things away behind cabinet doors and don't mind the rest.
ReplyDeleteOur last two cats, mother and son, never wanted to sit on laps and would occasionally sit next to us, but they loved being stroked and were never destructive. Our grand-cat seldom wants to be held and definitely prefers to have no one to ever touch her stomach area but she is pleasantly sociable otherwise.
There is a NetFlix show called "The Mind of Cats" that is very interesting.
Hugs!
They are growing up.
ReplyDeleteOh dear.
ReplyDelete'Take two!' 'They'll keep each other company.'
Unspoken: what one doesn't think of, the other will!
Yes!!
DeletePoor Roger, this kitten angst is making him nervous. I can't believe 3 months has gone already they have certainly grown. I agree with Barbara Anne above time to put your precious stuff away for now and don't worry about the odd pot plant.
ReplyDeleteWhy do kittens walking and play in front of the tv when you sit down to watch The Repair Shop
DeleteWatching kittens grow and come into their own is always fascinating, and unless they're sleeping, kittens are hard to photograph. Your descriptions are priceless!
ReplyDeleteAs I type this Weaver is sat next to the fire, and Bun sounds as if she is swinging from my bedroom curtains
DeleteThe animals fill your home with beings and personalities! Maybe both cats will cuddle more when the weather gets cold?
ReplyDeleteKittens are babies I forgot this
DeleteA home filled with life and love. Wonderful. But I’d be sad if they broke your pottery figurines John. Our cat had a collection of corks which we lined up on a shelf and she batted each off and chased it around the room until she fell into an exhausted heap. Two minutes later she’d be up, sending the next one flying. Hours of entertainment for us all. BTW I did love your choir on yesterday’s post. Sublime.
ReplyDeleteThey sound a real handful and I agree with those who say to hide away your precious breakables just for now.
ReplyDeleteNot sure I could love Roger's character any more.
I loved this line: "The best you can get is an arse here and a leg there."
