My friend Ruth needed some frivolity so I bought us some tickets to a stage show of the tv “ reality” show Most Haunted .
It was dreadful and we walked out at half time. The show is a sort-of-serious ghost hunt with a cheerful and not untalented ex Blue Peter presenter Yvette Fielding at the helm, unfortunately, Fielding’s husband and co presenter took the whole evening down a few notches to the level of a group of workmen swearing in the corner of Wetherspoons and although I like a good swear with the best of them, it was all too basic and cheap theatre for my liking .
I think I'd have walked out before half time! Oh, well, I hope the rest of the evening improved. xx
ReplyDeleteI went to bed and watched Alan Bennett’s monologues
DeleteSadly, we have all had evenings like that! But you often learn more from shows you hate, or scorn, than from ones you enjoy. There is a LOT of controversy around Most Haunted and it's authenticity, and there was a huge scandal surrounding the honesty and plausibility of the show's late featured psychic, Derek Acora.
ReplyDeleteHe was a real arse, though I do remember him shouting about two Victorian ghosts who loved each other “ Mary loves dick , Mary loves dick “
DeleteWithout any hint of irony
Unintentional comedy gold that scene 😂
DeleteI doubt I’d have lasted that long.
ReplyDeleteI did try to leave earlier but Ruth was too polite
DeleteI couldn’t even get through the whole clip! Sorry it was so bad that you and friend had to leave. It happens sometime. Gigi
ReplyDeleteWe laughed when we got outside
DeleteSounds like something we have in the US with jack osborne
ReplyDeleteLee
There are several ( all similar) shows
DeleteQuick editing, lots=of shouting and Blair witch photography
I find that my tolerance level regarding swearing has gone down as I have got older. I don't mind the 'just dropped something on my foot' variety, but the 'every other word in a sentence being an F word just because I can' type really winds me up!
ReplyDeleteYes I agree, swearing for effect ( no doubt my trolls will just in here with my recent c&£t reference but I absolutely agree
DeleteI think dear old Derek could do with spending some of the money he makes from gullible members of the public on acting lessons. And didn't David back in the studio use to be a TV doctor and medical expert? I see now that he claims to be Deputy Leader of Reform UK, which seems like one very good reason not to waste money supporting him. Apparently, in a previous political incarnation, he also believed its okay to be gay and a Tory, though I can't think of any circumstances under which it would be okay to be a Tory - BA
ReplyDeleteHe died in 2020 and when he was on tv I never heard such tosh or seen such hammy performances
DeleteThat's disappointing.
ReplyDeleteThat’s 50 £ down the toilet
DeleteOh well -- win some, lose some.
ReplyDeleteI have never lived in such a time when people don't believe in anything John. Most Haunted had its theatrical and tv moments but I do believe they came in contact with the invisible spirits. I have seen a few ghosts and definitely believe there is more than this life.
ReplyDeletePlease share your stories northsider!
DeleteI have experienced one very odd experience at work and once saw something I could not explain on the road up to the Gop.
DeleteI’d be interested in hearing your stories
I am a lone twin (my sister survived just 24 hours: we were born ultra premature) and this is the twin situation which most intrigues researchers. I have always backed hard away from people formally investigating the phenomenon who have wanted to converse and compare notes, but if you are interested in the other dimensional stories this situation seems to generate, look up the twin organisations in the UK and around the world. You will find it as intriguing as strange and unanswerable.
DeleteI found it distressing - I've had several experiences with ghosts /spirits? over the years and my mum dad and grandma did too - never so aggressive though - As a child I experienced a force of negativity alongside a stagecoach at a museum which still spooks me now x
ReplyDeleteMy grandmother did too, but she was an excellent storyteller
DeleteI have felt something odd, I couldn’t explain at the hospice one night
Just the once, I will blog about it one day
I am getting somewhat tired of the flis debate and the he said /she said childish comments not worthy of grown women.
DeleteIf you have something I “ need” to know please email me.
If not shut up
Flis I’ve asked you before not to reply to haters, I will just delete them and you if they attack you and you reply

DeleteWhat possessed you?! X
ReplyDeleteI know mave, I think on one level I thought it would be amusing but when they talked about bringing the audience in to play on the ouji board we were off,
DeleteSilly silly silly
Unless you are an expert, and even if you are an expert, ouija boards are to be avoided like the plague.
DeleteI couldn't get far into the clip either. What a load of rubbish!
ReplyDeleteFilm flam comes to mind
DeleteYvette doing a cracking job in the video not to laugh
ReplyDeleteSorry the movie was a bust but I am sure your company lifted Ruth's spirits. There is alsys a shared meal at home or out at a restaurant with conversation as the spirit booster.
ReplyDeleteHugs!
So, just what was his surname?
ReplyDeleteI only watched a bit of the clip too as not for me, and I don't know the programme on tv. It's a shame that it was a disappointment when Ruth needed a bit of lightness. Alan Bennett's monologues are great though!
ReplyDeleteFor a radio programme that makes you still snort out loud, even if you know every word of the script, find the sublime Radio 4 series Cabin Pressure. Stephanie Cole, Roger Allam, Benedict Cumberbatch and writer John Finnimore in the ups and very much downs of a single plane (Gertie) airline. Sheer genius and a total classic.
DeleteI’ll have a look. Sounds good
DeleteI need to learn to leave when I am not enjoying the show. Bravo for you valuing your time.
ReplyDeleteI used to tell film students that the balance-in-life for their permitted performance swearing was the audience's freedom to vote with their feet/wallets and depart.
