My sister came this morning and did the garden. I left her to it as I had a counselling session then planned to go to the cinema. The garden looks lovely and will burst into colour next month
I got into Chester a little early, so went to the Storyhouse to have brunch. kedgeree and crinkle chips
Bloody lovely it was too.
On my nephew’s suggestion I went to see the drama Civil War which, as it turned out was an inspired choice. Set in a civil war in modern day USA, we follow the fortunes of four war reporters ( two Journalists and two photographers played by Kirsten Dunst, Wagner Moura, Caylee Spaeny, and Stephen McKinley Henderson) Each character is essentially a representation of a whole person, each one showing a recognised facet of someone who has lived man’s inhumanity. So Dunst is the PTSD sufferer who has seen too much, Moura the thrill seeker, Spaeny the rookie and Henderson the old lag who cannot retire even though he is well past his sell by date.
Together the group travel from war torn New York to Washington to see the President deposed from office , and it’s a grim and terrifying journey where anarchy reigns and life is very cheap indeed . director Alex Garland cranks up the tension until the very end of this unexpected gem of a movie
Not an easy watch, but an important one.
Your garden looks lovely and I'd welcome Janet and her skills here. Might she come?!
ReplyDeleteWhat a day of accomplishhments you've had but I think I'd have to skip the movie given the tension in these United States. It's already sad, worrisome, and scary.
Hugs!
The film reminded me of The Crucible
DeleteWhere petty local spats before the war were carried out in deadly action , after it
Was thinking about seeing this - I quite like Dystopian future stuff!
ReplyDeleteWell Sue , you’d love the movie
DeleteWe've just finished watching Fallout on Netflix Sue, that was certainly a dystopian eye opener 😳 x
DeleteMy next watch
DeleteI didn't know what kedgeree was but I Googled it and now I know. I learn something everyday from the blogs I read.
ReplyDeleteI with Barbara Anne - I am already too worried about my country!
The realism of the film gave me chills too.. as for kedgeree , my version has a Middle Eastern twist on it rather than an Indian
DeleteBeautiful garden John. I don't think I could watch that film. I am already feeling edgy and though the end is nigh! A civil war in London seems to be a fingertip touch away if you believe all the news and social media outlets.
ReplyDeleteSteady Simone steady ! Common sense will prevail
DeleteIt opened last week here and I saw it last Friday. I agree with you - a hard watch but boy is it exciting but raw. Scary given Trump’s resurrection .
ReplyDeleteLee
The storming of DC Congress was a bleak dark time
DeleteI saw the movie last week, and it's certainly all that is advertised.
ReplyDeleteWhile one has to suspend looking for accuracy and probability (Texas and California would never be linked together willingly), and it omits entirely what having the military involved would be like (missals, jet fighters, B52 strikes, and of course tactical nuclear weapons), what i does show is the real and present hatred of the 'other' in the US now. It's real, and it's there.
I saw it last week too and the Texas / California thing jarred too. I found it frightening because I could actually feel for once in my life, that it could actually happen
DeleteKeith
Xx
I missed that reference
DeleteBut I found the petty jealousy’s and rural atrocities chilling
And Keith the realism was sobering , especially as trump is back on the sidelines
DeleteOK, I'm sold! We'll go see it!
ReplyDeleteLet me know what you think, and yes I will message you about meeting up
DeleteGlad your garden will give you such pleasure John. I would not be able to view that movie. My country is in a very dark place. - Jackie
ReplyDeleteIt’s given me more pleasure ever since Janet looks after it , she has a natural eye and like a meal you’ve not prepared or a bed you’ve not made , seeing it sorted is a real tonic
DeleteYour garden looks lovely. A real "secret garden", complete with furry friends! I love the metal sculptures, too. The film sounds a bit too much for me. I like feel good films as I get older and view the "real" world and all its horrors. xx
ReplyDeleteIt’s worth watching as it’s one of those films that deserves a post mortem
DeleteMy lookalikie has legs like Roger - Oddly the dogs home didn't tell me he was a Welsh terrier x
ReplyDeleteSend me a photo
DeleteI would but I dont have a facebook account and my phone doesn't have an account - the man who dealt with such matters is not well x
DeleteSend me an email , you have email don’t you ?
DeleteI don't have one of those either - only a tablet and a mobile x

DeleteOh yes yes yes! Time for 'games up' methinks
DeleteYour garden looks lovely, your sister is very talented. 💐
ReplyDeleteYes , apologies for not mentioning it before . It looks so neat , but kinda cottagey ( is that a word?)
DeleteI’m enjoying your ability to enjoy yourself john .
It’s a lightbulb moment
Lee
I will pass on your praise CC
DeleteThank you Lee, she deserves the praise
DeleteI'm hoping that movie doesn't take place in 2025.
ReplyDeleteI don’t I want to return to New York
DeleteI'll second that
DeleteHow are you today?
DeleteThank u , she’d be pleased to hear
ReplyDeleteComing to a village in North Wales soon.
ReplyDeleteThe garden looks lovely, as does Roger 😍
ReplyDeleteThank you he was bemused
DeleteNice space in the garden. The movie looks frightening. Maybe what we need, but not something to leave me at ease.
ReplyDeleteI'll have to watch this movie. Thanks for the information.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like a very good day and a film worth watching. Your garden already looks fabulous, the dandelion clock metal sculptures are so beautiful. Do they twirl in the wind? Pls plan us a garden photo tour soon.
ReplyDeletelizzy x
Your garden looks excellent. Janet always does great work. The movie sounds pretty raw.
ReplyDeleteYour garden is just lovely, congrats to your sister.
ReplyDeleteI too find the gardens lovely.
ReplyDeleteThe film sounds too true to be entertaining .
I love your garden! Can't wait for summer now.
ReplyDeleteThe film sounds frightening. Anarchy is terrifying I think, and we take so much in life for granted.
Tragically, this latest “Civil War” seems based in reality. Your gardener sister is an artist!
ReplyDeleteYou know, I cannot bring myself to watch this movie. We have relatives who stock pile ammo for just this scenario. They cheerfully talk about shooting liberals like they are not humans. I think common sense will prevail, but it is a jarring time right now.
ReplyDeleteGarden looks wonderful….movie sounds terrifying! Kathy
ReplyDeleteBeautiful garden. When weather is good take time to really enjoy it.
