Civil War

My sister came this morning and did the garden. I left her to it as I had a counselling session then planned to go to the cinema. The garden looks lovely and will burst into colour next month

I got into Chester a little early, so went to the Storyhouse to have brunch. kedgeree and crinkle chips
Bloody lovely it was too.

On my nephew’s suggestion I went to see the drama Civil War which, as it turned out was an inspired choice. Set in  a civil war in modern day USA, we follow the fortunes of four war reporters ( two Journalists and two photographers played by Kirsten Dunst, Wagner Moura, Caylee Spaeny, and Stephen McKinley Henderson) Each character is essentially a representation of a whole person, each one showing a recognised facet of someone who has lived man’s inhumanity. So Dunst is the PTSD sufferer who has seen too much, Moura the thrill seeker, Spaeny the rookie and Henderson the old lag who cannot retire even though he is well past his sell by date.
Together the group travel from war torn New York to Washington  to see the President deposed from office , and it’s a grim and terrifying journey where anarchy reigns and life is very cheap indeed . director Alex Garland cranks up the tension until the very end of this unexpected gem of a movie
Not an easy watch, but an important one.

Your garden looks lovely and I'd welcome Janet and her skills here. Might she come?!
What a day of accomplishhments you've had but I think I'd have to skip the movie given the tension in these United States. It's already sad, worrisome, and scary.

    Hugs!

    1. The film reminded me of The Crucible
Where petty local spats before the war were carried out in deadly action , after it

We've just finished watching Fallout on Netflix Sue, that was certainly a dystopian eye opener 😳 x

  3. I didn't know what kedgeree was but I Googled it and now I know. I learn something everyday from the blogs I read.
I with Barbara Anne - I am already too worried about my country!

    1. The realism of the film gave me chills too.. as for kedgeree , my version has a Middle Eastern twist on it rather than an Indian

  4. Beautiful garden John. I don't think I could watch that film. I am already feeling edgy and though the end is nigh! A civil war in London seems to be a fingertip touch away if you believe all the news and social media outlets.

It opened last week here and I saw it last Friday. I agree with you - a hard watch but boy is it exciting but raw. Scary given Trump’s resurrection .

  7. I saw the movie last week, and it's certainly all that is advertised.
While one has to suspend looking for accuracy and probability (Texas and California would never be linked together willingly), and it omits entirely what having the military involved would be like (missals, jet fighters, B52 strikes, and of course tactical nuclear weapons), what i does show is the real and present hatred of the 'other' in the US now. It's real, and it's there.

I saw it last week too and the Texas / California thing jarred too. I found it frightening because I could actually feel for once in my life, that it could actually happen

But I found the petty jealousy’s and rural atrocities chilling

  10. Your garden looks lovely. A real "secret garden", complete with furry friends! I love the metal sculptures, too. The film sounds a bit too much for me. I like feel good films as I get older and view the "real" world and all its horrors. xx

The film sounds frightening. Anarchy is terrifying I think, and we take so much in life for granted.

  24. You know, I cannot bring myself to watch this movie. We have relatives who stock pile ammo for just this scenario. They cheerfully talk about shooting liberals like they are not humans. I think common sense will prevail, but it is a jarring time right now.
