It’s sunny this morning. Sunny enough to warm the south facing stone wall of the cottage by 9.30 am.
I’ve drank coffee and was mindful by eating some hot cross buns covered with clumps of butter for breakfast
Last night’s The Kite Runner was an interesting adaptation of the multi awarded book. It lacked a bit of drama for me given the epic nature of some of the story but the lead (Stuart Vincent) was impressive enough.
I’m working the weekend on nights
The aubretia is flowering
Those hot cross buns look delicious. My mouth is watering.
ReplyDeleteIt is -1C and lovely and sunny over here today and I am going to go on the hunt for some hot cross buns. I have not seen any this year but I must find some. Yours look pretty good although a little over toasted for me. Gigi
ReplyDeleteThey are toffee hot cross buns so look burnt , I should have bought the traditional ones
DeleteHot cross buns, sunshine and aubretia.
ReplyDeleteA good start to the weekend, even if you are working.
I've never liked slapstick type comedy but love Taskmaster. The aubretia looks good but stick to traditional hot cross buns - eating burnt things isn't good for you!!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful blue sky. A lovely scene.
ReplyDeleteThose hot cross buns look far to over done for my liking, but I also bought a flavoured pack ... Apple and Cinnamon in my case ... and they toasted far too quickly and dark for me too. Your cottage should start to pull in the warmth much more in the days ahead. I hope you have a lovely Easter. xx
ReplyDeleteOh, those sweet purple flowers!
ReplyDeleteI like the cheese hot x buns and the marmite ones x 🐤
ReplyDeleteI wondered how a person ate hot cross buns . Toasted in Hades I see. ;)
ReplyDeleteJust teasing dear one. Do people normally toast and put butter or jam or dip them in coffee? May I do a survey?
How to eat hot cross buns is a good question! Toasted and buttered is the norm, as with John's. But my daughter likes to eat them as they come out of the pack, untoasted. Where I come from (the Midlands) it is normal to eat them with a slice of cheese, which can be on the side, or toasted on top of the split toasted bun. So really, the choice is yours.
DeleteToasted is not the norm!
DeleteThe "norm" is to eat them out of the pack, untoasted.
To toast them is a choice which has become popular but originally they were eaten untoasted.
The addition of various toppings is also a later choice which isn't the "norm".
Oooh so sniffy Anon. Pity you won't name yourself. Also not the norm!
DeleteOooh Jo in Auckland, if you look again you'll see Anon's reply wasn't to you. Answering anonymous comments definitely isn't the norm.
DeleteYou're not the norm!
To Jo - I agree with you about anon - it isn't normal that she has to vent her spleen here continually - she's clearly not a happy bunny x 🐰
DeleteMy aubretia is in flower too AND today the early morning sun caught a glimmer of green leaves emerging on the silver birch. It has efinitely sprung although it needs oiling in order to get going. xx
ReplyDeleteHot cross buns with homemade marmalade here ...lush! With a good black coffee freshly made....
ReplyDeleteIt is interesting to see how people interpret books..some things you can't do on stage or film even..after all Dune was only possible with the latest developments in special effects.
Hope your weekend goes quietly, quickly and smoothly.
Although things do have a habit of happening on weekends! xx
So good to see and feel the sun. Spring is definitely springing! I thought those were large mushrooms at first! xx
ReplyDeleteAn the welcome warmth of the sun! Your garden looks healthy and your aubretia is lovely.
ReplyDeleteI love Hot Cross buns, too, but always stick to the original flavor.
Wishing you well on these night shifts. May everyone except the staff be sleeping and quiet.
Hugs!
Your buddleia looks about like ours!
ReplyDeleteHot cross buns are lovely with butter and cheddar cheese (not toasted)
ReplyDeleteJohn, a good way to kick off your weekend: hot cross buns. Wish it were warmer here in Maine. Expecting yet another big snowstorm end of this week. Take care. Happy Easter despite working the night shift. Hugs.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like spring in Trelawnyd.
ReplyDeleteYour trio of swallows on the cottage wall brought back so many memories. As a small child in the Fifties these flying trios of birds were very popular and made a 'feature wall' but inside the house, not outside. They were usually made of brass, or sometimes ceramic, but were one of those things that everyone had. I wonder where ours went? And what replaced them?.
ReplyDeleteHot cross buns toasted in the oven, then butter and eaten warm.
ReplyDeleteI saw a production of "The Kite Runner" in Birmingham about ten years ago. It was brilliant and moving too.
ReplyDeleteToasted Hot X buns need LOTS of butter, but maybe a bit less charcoal.
ReplyDeleteMarks and Spencer have issued warnings not to toast their hot cross buns as there's a risk of fire.
