The activity will warm me up.
I may add to the post later
It’s nearly 1 pm and the bedroom is done .I’ve even washed the floorboards.
The plants I’ve showered in the bathroom and even though it’s just 2 degrees, I’ve opened up the cottage to the healing watery winter sun.
Now the bathroom
The bathroom was easy and is smelling likes a nun’s hum
Lovely and very wintry photos, John. The cold motivates, while damp darkness demotivates. Read this after I had bitten the bullet and started filling in the cracks and blips in my kitchen walls (new build extension) Great minds think alike! Have a good day doing.......
ReplyDeleteMy kitchen gets the makeover tomorrow. The art wall changeth
DeleteYou and Alan both!! He took the dogs for a walk first thing this morning and is now attacking his bedroom, the dogs are hiding in mine they hate the vacuum cleaner with a vengeance. He spent all day yesterday washing his downstairs carpets and deep cleaning the kitchen. I guess all this sudden cleaning activity will save him some time in Spring. ;-)
ReplyDeleteIt’s very addictive when you start
DeleteA beautiful day and your mind turns to cleaning?????
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely , it’s only me doing the work
DeleteBrrr....
ReplyDelete🌲⛄️❄️💧⛄️
DeleteBlimey! Frost? It's a balmy 4 C here in the sunny south, but I did wear my gloves this morning.
ReplyDeleteIt’s our first proper cold snap
DeleteGreat photos of the frost.
ReplyDeleteThank u
DeleteHere in Toronto we have minus 4 feeling like minus 9 with the wind and got some snow yesterday, yuk. The dog went out and did her business extra fast this morning. I don't feel like cleaning but will allow the roomba to do the vacuuming, opps I mean hoovering. I may get inspired later to give the fridge a good clean up. Still trying to eat up Christmas goodies but have thrush in mouth so don’t really feel like eating. Good diet as I have lost 8 pounds since the holidays. Happy cleaning John. Your photos are so nice, mine would be pure white today!
ReplyDeleteSnow makes me hunker down ….totally
DeleteJohn, I am sure I have seen heating panels in your home. Why is it not warm and snug inside? Is using your heating system too expensive?
ReplyDeleteThe radiators, incidental hot water and thermal store are all powered by the log burner . It is a cold day when I light the fire before lunchtime .
DeleteThe cottage is also south facing so heats up well when in full sun
Hot and humid here tonight. Windows and doors open trying to catch a cross breeze. 2014 had a touch of snow on the ground that stayed for a full day, it was magical.
ReplyDeleteWhere are u
DeleteFrosty but sunny and bright here today. Wish I could say I feel inspired to spring clean! xx
ReplyDeleteI know , I am wavering now but I’m keeping strong , the bathroom awaits
DeleteYour home will be sparkling bright in the spring sunshine.
ReplyDeleteIt’s getting there
DeleteLooks pretty, if I bit cool.
ReplyDeleteThe cottage is south facing and warms nicely in any sun
DeleteThis beautiful sunshine is certainly showing the cobwebs up round our place!
ReplyDeleteAlison in Wales x
Here too….luckily I have one of those feather boas on a stick
DeleteIt all looks spick and span and is such a cosy cottage ...... you have really made it a home John. I popped out to fix a leak in one of our windows. I sprayed it with some stuff I bought on Amazon !!!! It was bloody freezing and the stuff probably won't work !!! XXXX
ReplyDeleteI’m intrigued , leaking in windows ? How butch
DeleteWe have snow here in Illinois but not too much just fat flurries drifting down so it is very pretty. I will take the Christmas tree down today and put away the Nativity scene. Good for you and the burst of spring cleaning!
ReplyDeleteThere’s method in the madness
DeleteIts jan and I have little money to do anything else
What’s that funny eyed thing on the chest?

How wonderful your house looks.
ReplyDeleteVery kind deArheart
DeleteWhat a lovely frosty world you encountered on your early walk and what a frosty indoors with those windows open! Your bedroom and loo look perfect and hope the windows are long ago closed with the heat on. Brrrr!
ReplyDeleteMay I please have some of your energy? Ta.
Hugs!
I’m tired most of the time Babs I truly am
DeleteMy woodburner has been constantly working away but there's always someone in attendance - I am continually in the woodshed with my thatch who is very interested in a mouse who has stored hazelnuts x 🕸🐿🐁
ReplyDeleteHard work keeping it going 24/7
DeleteI just turn it down low whilst sleeping and if I wake I just pop another on x ⛺
DeleteAnd no one mentions the Nun?
ReplyDeleteLater libs
DeleteThe place is looking great! You got colder than we did -- we didn't quite hit freezing.
ReplyDeleteI didn’t feel the cold overnight , dogs covered me
DeleteWhat’s a nun’s hum? And if it’s what I think it was meant to be, how do YOU know what it smells like?
ReplyDeleteI just asked the same thing! LOL
DeleteSweet, I think a nun would hum sweetly
DeleteLibby and I are curious as to what a "nun's hum" might smell like and, further, how you might know what it smells like!
ReplyDeleteOr, did you mean a "nun's BUM" ... the above question still stands!
Hum …..she would hum sweetly
DeleteI remember all the debate about the color you were going to paint your bedroom. I also remember that I couldn't quite get my head around the idea of navy blue. But after all this time, if I have never said it before, I say it now. Each time we get a glimpse of your home, I always think how very sharp those navy blue walls look contrasted with the bright white ceiling with tiny pops of color throughout. You have good taste.
ReplyDeleteThank you Debby, I appreciate that
DeleteEvery time you show us your bedroom I realize how much I loved my navy blue bedroom in Iowa. I really need to repaint my bedroom here in Georgia navy but I am too lazy. Jackie
ReplyDeleteMy bedroom is south facing so can take a dark colour
Delete-1 and -2 is very cold and your landscape shows an icy glaze. It is pretty but very cold.. Your home looks fabulous. Your choices in decor has a contemporary vibe. I love it. Dark blue walls and black and white bathroom - superb. I have 8 inches of snow and it is still coming down. Winter wonderland is the order of the day!
ReplyDeleteKeep warm susan. X
DeleteIf I recall, at one stage you were going to do the bathroom in green and pink! The black and white looks wonderful and is timeless.
ReplyDeleteThe pick and green would have dated it to deco and 1940 ….
DeleteI’d forgotten how lovely your bathroom is !
ReplyDeleteThank you Shelly
DeleteGive me some of your motivation and or energy, even better if you could wing your way here and motivate me to clean. I hate the dark winter days and we’ve had endless rain since mid October grrr. Wishing for cold, frosty dry days. Your home is fabulous. Noreen
ReplyDeleteBig jobs the rest of the week including painting the kitchen
DeleteLabel on basket holding towels need to be removed…or turn it round to face the wall.
ReplyDeleteBloody hell sigh
DeleteIf the label is paper, spray it with furniture polish, leave for a few minutes then polish off with a dry cloth. Repeat if necessary. Gets rid of all that hard to remove glue. You're welcome! xx
DeleteThis is why I stopped blogging. Jackie
DeleteSorry John, should have softened with a smiley face or something. My bad, my apologies
DeleteI’m not bothered ,, lol
DeleteWhat really happened is he forgot to leave that comment as Anonymous so then backtracked. He comments as both Traveller and Anonymous.
DeleteNothing like a good house clean after the festive season... my windows meanwhile remained cracked year round. I love the fresh air.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to be fascinated to see what color you paint the kitchen! And I never thought of a long handled duster as a "feather boa on a stick" - now I want one in pink, and maybe aqua. Thanks for the image!
ReplyDeleteCeci
Your beautiful frosty pictures would make good wall art.
ReplyDeleteLinda from Alabama
Beautiful photos.
ReplyDeleteI came back to look at your bathroom photos. We need to update our bathroom and I really like the classic look of the black and white. You do have a great eye for design.
ReplyDeleteThe walk may have been cold, but I love the brooding quality of photos one and three.
ReplyDeleteThe cottage looks so fresh and clean. Ready to move forward with a new year! I feel the same about the sun too - even a chilly winter one.
ReplyDeleteIt is satisfying to have a winter clean and let the sharp fresh light and air in!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous photos all the way through today's blog. I reckon that walking the dogs in minus 4 is real dedication! My sinuses do not like cold, and that would be a killer for me.
ReplyDeleteYou do a real Nurse's Job clean, don't you. There's nothing halfhearted about it - and I so admire you for it. I do cleaning in sections - with a rest between. We don't have a dog any more, but two grandchildren make a dreadful mess. It's all very well saying "you may only eat at the table", but it doesn't work like that!! I love your bathroom - it's not clinical, but it's efficient, and certainly sparkling. I'd've thought Navy would be dark in a bedroom, but I guess you've the light out most of the time, and it is very elegant. You've made the cottage into something very special. It's definitely "you".
I love your style, John. Not a beige wall or white couch in sight.
ReplyDeleteI also love the photos of your frosty garden
Lovely photo of the church over the frosty grass. I just googled "hum" - perhaps as a slang term but I could not find it. Perhaps you meant "bum"?
ReplyDeleteThink it means fanny. nuns one would be pure as no man has touched it.
