Winter Cleaning with updates

It was minus four when we went for our morning walk. It’s minus one now and I’m just about to spring clean the bedroom.
The activity will warm me up.
I may add to the post later

It’s nearly 1 pm and the bedroom is done .I’ve even washed the floorboards.
The plants I’ve showered in the bathroom and even though it’s just 2 degrees, I’ve opened up the cottage to the healing watery winter sun.
Now the bathroom

The bathroom was easy and is smelling likes a nun’s hum

Lovely and very wintry photos, John. The cold motivates, while damp darkness demotivates. Read this after I had bitten the bullet and started filling in the cracks and blips in my kitchen walls (new build extension) Great minds think alike! Have a good day doing.......

  2. You and Alan both!! He took the dogs for a walk first thing this morning and is now attacking his bedroom, the dogs are hiding in mine they hate the vacuum cleaner with a vengeance. He spent all day yesterday washing his downstairs carpets and deep cleaning the kitchen. I guess all this sudden cleaning activity will save him some time in Spring. ;-)

Here in Toronto we have minus 4 feeling like minus 9 with the wind and got some snow yesterday, yuk. The dog went out and did her business extra fast this morning. I don't feel like cleaning but will allow the roomba to do the vacuuming, opps I mean hoovering. I may get inspired later to give the fridge a good clean up. Still trying to eat up Christmas goodies but have thrush in mouth so don’t really feel like eating. Good diet as I have lost 8 pounds since the holidays. Happy cleaning John. Your photos are so nice, mine would be pure white today!

  7. John, I am sure I have seen heating panels in your home. Why is it not warm and snug inside? Is using your heating system too expensive?

The cottage is also south facing so heats up well when in full sun

  8. Hot and humid here tonight. Windows and doors open trying to catch a cross breeze. 2014 had a touch of snow on the ground that stayed for a full day, it was magical.

What a lovely frosty world you encountered on your early walk and what a frosty indoors with those windows open! Your bedroom and loo look perfect and hope the windows are long ago closed with the heat on. Brrrr!
May I please have some of your energy? Ta.

Or, did you mean a "nun's BUM" ... the above question still stands!

  23. I remember all the debate about the color you were going to paint your bedroom. I also remember that I couldn't quite get my head around the idea of navy blue. But after all this time, if I have never said it before, I say it now. Each time we get a glimpse of your home, I always think how very sharp those navy blue walls look contrasted with the bright white ceiling with tiny pops of color throughout. You have good taste.

Dark blue walls and black and white bathroom - superb. I have 8 inches of snow and it is still coming down. Winter wonderland is the order of the day!

    1. If the label is paper, spray it with furniture polish, leave for a few minutes then polish off with a dry cloth. Repeat if necessary. Gets rid of all that hard to remove glue. You're welcome! xx

I'm going to be fascinated to see what color you paint the kitchen! And I never thought of a long handled duster as a "feather boa on a stick" - now I want one in pink, and maybe aqua. Thanks for the image!

  37. Gorgeous photos all the way through today's blog. I reckon that walking the dogs in minus 4 is real dedication! My sinuses do not like cold, and that would be a killer for me.
You do a real Nurse's Job clean, don't you. There's nothing halfhearted about it - and I so admire you for it. I do cleaning in sections - with a rest between. We don't have a dog any more, but two grandchildren make a dreadful mess. It's all very well saying "you may only eat at the table", but it doesn't work like that!! I love your bathroom - it's not clinical, but it's efficient, and certainly sparkling. I'd've thought Navy would be dark in a bedroom, but I guess you've the light out most of the time, and it is very elegant. You've made the cottage into something very special. It's definitely "you".
