Scotch Egg Resus

Dorothy was poorly this morning and refused her breakfast
This worried me greatly as she hasn’t missed a meal in five years,
So I fussed around her as she lay quiet on the kitchen reading chair and even contemplated not going to Chester to meet my friend Ruth for lunch so worried I was
But Bulldogs are not bulldogs for a reason and by four o’clock , the scent of a sliver of bespoke scotch egg wafted around the kitchen brought the girl back from the brink of death
Ruth treated me from the butchers in the new Chester Market
I gave Dorothy a half egg ( a true prize in this house) to clinch her full recovery

Good old Dorothy, so true to form as a Bulldog, glad she is better but then again she has the best nurse in the house - you John. Jan in Castle Gresley

I'm glad to hear that Dorothy rallied after the half of Scotch egg! Hope she doesn't have a sock or something else clgging her innards up.
I'm glad you could still go to Chester to meet Ruth.

    Hugs!

  4. Have you had Dorothy for five years already? Where on earth has the time gone?
I hope she's full of herself again this evening!
Was your Scotch Egg from Geoff Hughes? We've been buying meat from them for over 25 years! X

  5. Dorothy may have known that just calmly waiting would let whatever was interfering with her appetite rectify itself. We should be as wise,Mary

This morning I told my dog we were going to see the Vet for her yearly exam and vaccines. She bugged and bugged til it was time to go. She only got a bit nervous when we didn’t go to the back where the groomer, her favourite person was. All was good and she was a good girl so after a couple of treats she is now relaxing in her bed. Hope Dorothy was just putting on an act for the chance of a Scotch egg. Give her a cuddle and she will be fine.. gigi

  9. It's surprising that vets do not prescribe scotch eggs for poorly bulldogs. And Ruth clearly knows that the way to a man's heart is via a scrumptious scotch egg.

  10. You can't keep a good 'un down! Glad she's recovered. The magical power of Scotch eggs. Should be available on prescription! xx

Not surprising that she felt ill, the rubbish you feed them. The stuff we eat isn't suitable for a dog's stomach, however much they like the taste. You often say you give them human food.

  12. I can't eat if my dogs refuse theirs - One terrier occasionally misses lunch - as did my previous - They are such a worry to me x😱🐺

Try giving them a McDonalds as John does to his dogs.

I assume your reply is humorous? If not you definitely need to educate yourself on exactly what their food consists of. Also the factory farming aspect.

  19. Nothing gets us more upset than seeing our pets unwell.

I have never had a Scotch egg! You inspire to to try one - provided I can find one that's proper.

  20. Mein frau told me she had an (un-ordered) omelet with bits of mushroom and sweet peppers within and accompanied by two crispy wedges of hash-browned potatoes for her breakfast in hospital this morning. My mouth was watering until she told me they used no salt in the cookery. She said they brought packets if salt and pepper but it wasn't the same as being cooked with it.

    1. The saying is feed a cold and starve a fever, though apparently it has no validity!

  27. Dorothy is 5, but she hasn't been with you all five of those years, I think? It seems like yesterday that she arrived at your home. No, it's not good when the critters feel poorly, especially because they can't tell you what, or how bad it is. I've been late to work because someone ate something in the yard and needed to get it out of her system before I crated her for the day. Glad the scotch egg revived Miss Dorothy!

You crate your dogs "FOR THE DAY"?
Here in the UK the RSPCA recommends dogs aren't left for more than 4 hours.
You confine your dogs in a crate for a whole day?

      Delete
    2. No, the crate is Rogers refuge sand is generally used at feeding time only

I think the reply is to Tara's comment and not to you John. Tara says she crates her dogs for the day when she goes to work.

    4. One of my dogs rescue home suggested in their info that some dogs think of it a safe space x

    5. Hah! As I typed that, I figured I'd get flamed. Yep, my last two pups have been crated while I'm at work. The cockapoo would do demo work on the walls and eat the sofa. That's when he got a crate. Our current pit-lab mix-- she's deaf and gets anxious alone. That anxiety leads to chewing things that are not safe. She claimed the couch as hers when she came to us, but she's sleeping on her bed in her crate as I type. I hate to have to crate any dog, but if it's necessary for their safety, so be it. Both of them were gonna sleep all day anyway, and are usually snoozing in their crates as I'm putting on my shoes to leave.

A charmer - female bulldogs have the knack hope she is back to normal todayl She might even have planned the whole episode having dreamt about scotch eggs - I wouldn't put anything past a bulldog. But what they do in this area they more than make up for in love as you well know.

I'm so glad to hear that Dorothy has rallied after the scotch egg cure. Recently my almost 14 year old yorkie girl refused her breakfast and I was devastated, thinking that this surely was the beginning of the end, she NEVER refuses food..........fortunately it was a one off and she is fine, but I totally get how you felt John x

  31. I read your headline as "Scotch Egg Jesus"! I was trying to figure out what on earth that meant. Glad Dorothy could be persuaded with a Scotch egg. Olga goes off her food now and then with no evident explanation.

  32. Sometimes dogs won't eat bec they have tooth or ear problems, in case the issue arises again. I occasionally give my pug half a poached egg but the spiced meat of a scotch egg would make him vomit. The chicken and rice sounds right tho. So glad D is better.

  33. Dog not eating reminded me of a story my ex told on one of his visits, which I must admit almost made me fall off my chair laughing. (My ex is a good storyteller and often makes me bust a gut laughing. Many good qualities!) His wife's old dog stopped eating for several days and they thought they'd have to take him to the vet to put him down because he was laying around with no energy as well. Then one day he threw up all over the house, and up came one of the wife's pairs of panties.

Glad it was nothing like this for your wee one.
