The alliums are flowering in the garden and look lovely despite not fully open this morning. I cut Centaurea Montana ( Mountain Cornflower) for the kitchen and filled the gaps with Ammi Majus ( Bishop’s Flower) and blue aquilegia picked from the lane borders.
Cut flowers, like owning a cat, make a house a real home I always think
I’ve always thought so and I wonder where I learnt that from?
I’m physically back to normal today but will listen to my body and will sleep most of the afternoon before shift. The day before night shift ,is a literal day of rest for me. Pottering and flower cutting, that’s my therapy, and dozing alongside the coconut smelling Dorothy
I’ve made chicken noodles with a low fat satay sauce for supper and an egg mango salad for lunch, and have watered the planters and written a considered message to a friend whose relationship has sadly faltered .
I’ve nothing big to share today.
No belly laughs or sad stories.
Nothing interesting to report in a world of sad news
Just a quiet day in a Welsh village
With the sound of blackbirds softening the sound of the noisy neighbour sawing wood in his workshop
Nothing to report is often the best. No dramas, crises, trauma - brilliant. Have a good nap and I hope the night shift, too has nothing to report. xx
ReplyDeleteYour flower arrangement is lovely
ReplyDeleteAdd to the sounds of the village, gentle snoring of man and dogs,
ReplyDeleteThe yellow vase with the splash of purple and white and generous greens is a stunner. Who wouldn't love that on a table? I wonder if we need to be taught the fullness of such beauty or if it comes naturally? Maybe naturally, if we pause enough to rest in it.
ReplyDeleteCool morning walk this morning, listening to the wind in the trees and birdsong. I love the quiet before traffic and work begin.

That is my favourite lunch, with a strawberry also cut into it. And my near favourite dinner is noodles with peanut sauce. Yours looks so much better! My daughter gifted me with a huge bunch of tulips on mothers day last weekend and I had forgotten how much enjoyment cut flowers in the house brings. Hope your shift tonight is a smooth one. Zzzzzz first. GG
ReplyDeleteOh those stunning flowers. Beautiful meals, too. I had to read the second paragraph a few times. I was going to ask you what does it mean to “cut flowers like a cat.” Never mind. (Although a comma or two would have helped!)
ReplyDeleteThat's a lovely bouquet!
ReplyDeleteLovely arrangement!!! I always have cut flowers in the house. I adore alliums too but have no luck with them here.
ReplyDeleteI love those cornflowers. The bishop's weed I know as Queen Anne's lace, though there are a lot of plants that bear that nickname. May favorite part of this post is your mention of "coconut-smelling Dorothy."
ReplyDeleteI just read your earlier post so NOW I understand why she was smelling of coconut. LOL
DeleteOh, I love those flowers!
ReplyDeleteThey bring such joy. And I love how the doggie is right there looking at you!
XOXO
Lovely garden picture and lovely flower arrangement with the perfect vase.
ReplyDeleteYour food looks delicious, too.
Yes, a quiet day of pottering and sleep is good preparation for a night shift. May it be peaceful.
Hugs!
That last line is perfection- so evocative
ReplyDeleteYour pretty vase of flowers in front of your art wall is so lovely to see! Your home is very comfy and inviting, John. I can see why you feel so relaxed there.
ReplyDeleteLovely flowers - a country bunch - the best sort x
ReplyDeleteAlison in Wales x
Lovely arrangement on your table - you have a real knack with flower arranging - always an alternative career to fall back on!!
ReplyDeleteWe all need a quiet day now and again. Your new bouquet is very beautiful and as good or better than a florist could do.
ReplyDeleteLovely arrangement. i feel the same way about flowers in the house even if all I have are the same azaleas that are growing outside. I hope you continue to improve.
ReplyDeleteToday's photos are lovely and so peaceful. Uneventful days are good days. Hope your night shift is quiet & uneventful as well. Glad to hear you're feeling much better!
ReplyDeleteI enjoy reading you here rather than FB, then I get to see the chickens!
ReplyDeleteA quiet day is good, especially before the body clock disruption of a night shift.
ReplyDeleteYour house and garden look lovely..and bringing some flowers in does tie the two together.
All three photos are beautiful in their different ways.
ReplyDeleteDid the egg and mango work?
ReplyDeleteYes, it is a variation I used to love in sitges of papaya, salmon and egg
DeleteOur Centaurea are just starting to spread themselves. Lovely plants.
ReplyDeleteMy god, you live well, John. That food looks delicious and your cut flowers beautiful. And the nap sounds even more wonderful. Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteIt's true how we are drawn into the sadness when a friend is having problems. We just want to hug and help them.
ReplyDeleteThe flowers are lovely.
