On the back of yesterday’s post
I wanted to remind and share this photo of Albert and Winnie
Taken six years ago now
Albert absolutely adored this fat old benign creature
With a passion
They would often lie together on the lounge floor , with Albert cradling her face with sheathed paws
And with her putting up with the attention with grace and alacrity
His affection was all consuming and totally unexplained
After she died( playing with a silly rubber chicken )
He sat between her fat old paws on the kitchen floor
And didn’t move until Sailor John from next door and I removed her body
two hours later
Animal empathy. xx
ReplyDeleteI’m feeling rather nostalgic, I’ve just watched FINDING NEMO and COCO
DeleteDisney overload…..I could sob for Wales
I well remember that sweet picture of Albert and Winnie and their friendship. It pulls at my hewartstrings, especially now as dear Albert seems to be fading.
ReplyDeleteBig hugs!
Yes , I thought I’d rehash it
DeleteSome things deserve to be rehashed. They were a magnificent duo. xx
DeleteCan remember a plane trip. The person next to me watched Finding Nimo and then The Snowman…as we came into land they were sobbing quietly. I said it was their own fault, I had avoided both.
ReplyDeleteThere will be a lot of tears shed in blogland when the lad goes.
We love them so - they break our hearts too - I hope Albert is comfortable this evening xx
ReplyDeleteAll the memories come flooding back. Not that I’m one to believe in blessings, but these are blessings of a sort.
ReplyDeleteBlessings are good things that happen to you without any input on your part. They don't have to be biblical in nature - blessings can come from the most unexpected sources.
ReplyDeleteBFFs for sure.
ReplyDeleteI've loved that picture of Albert & Winnie since first seeing it. The affection they shared for one another needs no explanation. It was real, it was heartwarming, and it was life affirming. Albert's sitting with Winnie's body when she died was as beautiful as it was heartbreaking.
ReplyDeleteAnd now I need to find a tissue. Hugs to you, John dear.
Albert and Winnie were truly best friends. Lovely photos.
ReplyDeleteIt's so good to see cats and dogs getting on well together. I tried with mine, but they never really warmed to the idea.
ReplyDeleteWonderful photo, and a reminder that dogs and cats need not be enemies.
ReplyDeleteThose knowing eyes.
ReplyDeleteI always loved that photo. It was a heart warming friendship.
ReplyDeletePerhaps Winnie's spirit will come to collect Albert when it's his time and they'll wander off into the sunset together.
ReplyDeleteThat really would be the best possible conclusion to the story of their deep and loving friendship..
DeleteI love Andi's comment! I have many stories about all the animals we have loved and lost but I do not have your ability to express it the way you do John. Waiting on your book so I can purchase it :-) Jackie in Georgia USA
DeleteThere are so many of your photos that I love and this is one of the many. I've been thinking about Roger and Albert.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous Albert. Such a sweet cranky soul.
ReplyDeleteI know Albert's time is coming but it hurts to think so. I lost my old girl, Lola almost a month ago and it's still hard to bear. They grab our hearts , don't they?
ReplyDeleteHow blessed are those who know and see the love of these beautiful creatures which enrich our lives.
