Why did they put music over the 'moment of silence?'.

  6. It strikes me anew what a precious gift our undivided attention is. It strikes me again that it is a gift that I should give more often.

    This clip made me cry.

    1. Well said…..sometimes we fear and tend to fill silences and forget to ATTEND to the person in front of us…

I’ve seen this before and it always moves me, and makes me think of people I was close to in the past. This article about Marina and Ulay is interesting.

  12. I don't remember this clip but I did see quite a long programme about the whole event - people were queuing for hours to take part. Abramovic's concentration and focus was amazing, and many participants were leaving in tears. Very moving.

    1. Yes I read of this when I weren’t to the museum last. Her exhibition was one of the most popular ever

  15. To have someone 'see' you is very moving indeed. I wonder if they saw each other again after that?

    1. Two highly strung artists perhaps? But after 30 years I would have thought that most of us would have been terribly moved

  16. This was powerful. It says they were together in the 70's, when was this film made and how long was it since they'd last seen each other?

    1. I think this was taken from the 2010 MoMAThe Artist is Present (so New York). The Great Wall of China walk was in 1988. There's lots of info on their story online.

I only read a little but it was sad. They didn't get back together and ended up in court about the ownershp of shared artworks.
      Ulay died in 2020.

    4. Veg artist, yes I too have been following their story
Though I’m not surprised that they remained apart

    5. Ann and anon
I think you have to remember the surroundings
The limited time of the interaction with each person, the watching crowd , the whole ambiance puts huge stressors on the “ performers” no wonder many of those that took part cried themselves

It was a set up then and not real? Oh well it shows what good actors they are. Had me and your readers fooled anyway.

    8. No I didn’t mean the meeting was set up, I was under the impression that it wasn’t ….I thought the set up generally was clever, it was always going to move someone
