My bedroom is now sorted. The bare old floorboards, all of different widths that echo their age have now been washed clean and as the morning sun flows into the room , they are almost dry.
I always think my bedroom feels like a little boy’s room.
It’s tucked up in the eaves, and feels cosy because of that.
Mary knows this, and has sneaked onto her favourite sunny corners of the bed.
She sighs loudly .
I climb onto the bed to write today’s blog and fall asleep within minutes, only pressing the publish button after stirring at dogs barking from the kitchen
That is a lovely cosy bedroom John. I like to see the sunlight reflecting across the room. The tasteful artwork takes the edge off it being like a little boys room.
ReplyDeleteAlthough the eaves maybe it feel like a child’s bedroom, the colour makes it feel a bit grown up
DeleteYour bedroom does look cosy.and I like you colour decorating choice. It's a nice place to sleep.
ReplyDeleteRoger has now been allowed to sleep upstairs and Mary is happier too as she used to keep him company in the kitchen. Now we all share the bed
DeleteI love the colour of your walls and your choice of pictures. I wish I was as tidy as you are. It looks a warm an inviting space and I think lovely by lamplight. x
ReplyDeleteIt and vere into unkempt very quickly
DeleteIt's really, really nice. I like the contrast with the blue and orange and your chest of drawers softens the whole look. I need to grow up and have a properly decorated bedroom
ReplyDeleteThe orange accents stem from Garfield ( on the book case) my orange art has been a joy to collect
DeleteNeat and orderly space, it reflects you.
ReplyDeleteYou could have seen under the bed david ,,,,another world………another world
DeleteLovely room. I sleep better in a blue room. I once painted my bedroom navy blue with white trim and I loved it. When we sold the house the new owners said the first thing they would do is paint that room so it would flow with the rest of the house. To each their own, I guess. I also love that quilt. Jackie in Georgia USA
ReplyDeleteBlue and white reminds me much of classy American houses , in Long Island
DeleteLooks lovely. I do believe we have the exact same shade of blue on our walls. I find the color very calming and relaxing
ReplyDeletePraise indeed my style guru
DeleteIt is indeed a cosy room. You have created a lovely house….glad you didn’t go with green and pink in the bathroom.
ReplyDeleteOh I don’t know,,, that American retro feel could have looked lovely……I think I’m just not brave enough to pull it off
Deletehow satisfying! And the built in book shelves, what a great thing to have in the bedroom!
ReplyDeletececi
I designed them myself and had them made when we bought the cottage , along side the hidden wardrobe ( not seen but filling an alcove) and the downstairs cabinets and stair case
DeleteOoooh, I'd love to sleep in that room. It looks so cosy and inviting, and with the sun on the bed, I think Mary agrees! xx
ReplyDeleteOne day Russell Crowe will say that lol)
DeleteThanks for the pictures of your bedroom, John. And thanks for showing the quilt at the foot of the bed. It is a lovely adaptation of the Dresden Plate pattern and I enjoyed seeing it. To me, the photos say that a gentleman with good taste and happy in his own skin lives here. -sandy from Kentucky
ReplyDeleteThank you Sandy x
DeleteSo glad to see Mary I was missing her .
ReplyDeleteYes she sometimes get forgotten and eclipsed by dim Roger and diva Dorothy
DeleteYou do have a cozy, (and very tidy), bedroom. It's reminded me that I need to tackle my own.
ReplyDeleteIt’s surprising just how therapeutic it is cleaning and sorting the shit out
DeleteThank u xx
DeleteSounds like both you and Mary enjoy napping in the sun!
ReplyDeleteA bonding moment x
DeleteLooks great, John. I like the color of your walls.
ReplyDeleteI’m waiting for a flis comment
DeleteWhich will most likely be about something flis has experienced, often not connected in anyway to your post. Perhaps you should rename it The John and Flis blog.
DeleteIt DOES look cozy -- and clean! I love the way dogs sigh. They seem so content when they make those sounds.
ReplyDeleteDon’t sound so shocked lol
DeleteIt does look like a lovely, cozy bedroom. Mary seems to agree:)
ReplyDeleteShe likes to be alone occasionally
DeleteI do believe that you are the proud owner of a sanctuary John x 💐🌄 🐺🐻
ReplyDeleteNicely put, but it’s only a cottage lol
DeleteIt looks lovely and is a very masculine room. Alan has a blue room too, and a purple room and a red room ... he's just multi-coloured.
ReplyDeleteDogs and cats soon suss out where the sun hits each room and at what times don't they. My three are all currently curled up fast asleep in the largest dog bed, with the suns rays making them look positively angelic.
I think pugs adore the gentle heat of morning sun than any other breed
DeleteLove the room, especially the wall color. Hope you felt revived after your nap.
ReplyDeleteI’m tired all of the time ….I’m anaemic
DeleteIf it belongs to a little boy, he's a very sophisticated old-soul little boy. I like the navy, it sets off all the light color items in the room and as others said - cozy. And that quilt is very gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteYes the quilt is a wonderful piece of art x
DeleteYour bedroom is beautiful. Penelope like to lie in a sunbeam now that she has arthritis.
ReplyDeleteLove,
Janie
Warms the bones
DeleteWhat a delightful bedroom you've created for yourself. Bliss!
ReplyDeleteHugs!
Cheers babs
DeleteWhat a beautiful eclectic room, lovely photos.
ReplyDeleteGlad you liked my American flag
DeleteYour room looks lovely, cosy and a safe harbour. And Mary looks beautiful and content in that low winter sun. No wonder you fell sleep in minutes! So hope you are now well rested and looking forward to the table top sale.
ReplyDeleteThe view makes the room what it is
DeleteI can look across fields and hedges to the hills across the valley . Greenery for miles
I remember when you talked about painting your bedroom navy blue. I wasn't sure, but really, if I never said it before, it turned out quite beautifully
ReplyDeleteThank you debby
DeleteClean is such a nice feeling.
ReplyDeleteAnd everything smells rather nice
DeleteEven better. Isabel cleaned today. It’s the same here. But not as satisfying.
DeleteIt's a nice sanctuary and I think you made a good choice with those navy blue walls.
ReplyDeleteCheers yp
DeleteYou've created a beautiful and restful bedroom. The warmth of the sunshine and the light flowing in sounds serine and lovely. I also love your navy walls. It looks like Albert approves too.
ReplyDeleteIt’s his room, but cats adore the sun
DeleteYou have a decorator's eye and I think that room is tastefully done. Sweet Mary; I'm glad she found the patch of sun :)
ReplyDeleteWe all need our day in the sun
DeleteLovely picture of Mary sleeping in the sunlight. It's a beautiful room. Hugs, Elaine (in Toronto)
ReplyDeleteYes, she’s getting a little older now, but her sweetness is still evident
DeleteHave you moved back into that bedroom again now? You previously said you'd moved into the smaller room with single bed.
ReplyDeleteYes, I have. When the weather was dreadful, the tiny east wing bedroom was ideal , and a lot warmer
DeleteI need to find a sunny spot for a nap.
ReplyDeleteDon’t we all?
DeletePerhaps it’s my age, but the thought of falling asleep in a sunny spot in the garden sounds blissful
You HAVE done that!
DeleteLooking at Mary again - I am still unsure why the dogs home called my T - a Lakeland - He looks to me to be a Welsh terrier - As I was told he previously lived outside with oter dogs - I wonder if it was a puppy farm x 🐕
ReplyDeleteFlis, Mary hasn’t got the box beard typical of the welsh, she rubs it off
Deletethatch has a beard and I comb it every day - Today it's full of mud x 🦁
DeleteLovely bedroom John. You really have a flair for making a house into a home - and I adore Mary.
ReplyDeleteI feels like home..I am not one for dark colours but they do suit the cottage I think
DeleteCozy, and nicely decorated.
ReplyDeleteThank you Tom.
DeleteI love the color scheme. Dark blue suits you and suits that room, I think.
ReplyDeleteThank you x
DeleteYour bedroom looks lovely! There's a poetry in your words today.
ReplyDeleteThank u
DeleteWoops, superfluous 'a'
ReplyDeleteI always think a dark blue on the wall is very sophisticated ... but a tad cold. Having the sun come in gives it such a lift as does the orange contrasts; orange being my fav colour! Mary looks so content there in the sunshine I know why you fell asleep I would too. Looks fab with the quilt too!
ReplyDeleteJo in Auckland
Mary , my love, don't be afraid. I only snore.Move a tad so I can lay by you.
ReplyDeleteThat does indeed look cosy.
