A Snooze in the Afternoon

This is the simple jug I bought from Sainsbury’s yesterday . It’s robust and pleasing and suits the daffodils which I’ve now filled it. Tulips will look good in it too.
I took the dogs to Colwyn Bay Promenade first thing and bought daffodils from a little florist in the town before meeting a friend for brunch.
I think brunch is the go to eating event popular with people now. I love it much more that a late dinner out , not that I’m invited out late much anymore .
I popped in Eirlys’ beef casserole, wrote up some college notes and that’s it for the day.
A recent blood test showed I’m a bit anaemic so a crafty little snooze-Ette  is the order of the late afternoon
It’s cool , but I cover me and the dogs in a throw and soon all of us will be asleep on the trendy couch .
Organic hot water bottles for each other
I will light the fire later.
Ps fire roaring , curried fish soup for supper, 2 hour chat with friend Nige on the phone
Now settling down to watch crap tv

  1. That's a lovely, understated jug. Will let the flowers speak without competing. A little snoozette (love that word) with the animals and a snuggly throw sounds good. I don't like eating out late in the day - takes forever to digest and means I can't go to bed until way past my bedtime! xx

Flowers always lift one’s spirits. Love the organic hot water bottles. Mine is a 13 pound cat, Buddy, who settles in my legs in the early morning to watch out the front window while I sip a cup of coffee. Your posts always make me smile and sometimes laugh out loud. Thank you!

  4. Love the simplicity of the jug, It will enhance any cut flowers, not just daffodils and tulips. May treat myself if I'm in the vicinity of a Sainsburys. I had a blood test too on Tuesday, don't know the result yet, fingers crossed for no more pills, please.

  5. I love the chubby speckled pitcher, great find! And those daffs are going to be stunning when they bloom, tho I always enjoy them in the bud like these are.
A nap is always good, esp for a busy person who works nights. But not sure it helps anemia. Maybe a liquid herbal iron supplement? [amazon].

What a beautifully shaped and simply decorated pitcher, just perfect for the daff buds. My mother used to put a few drops of ink into the water and that will trun the edges of the daff petals a lovely blue-green.
Naps and liver (ick!) are good for anemia.

    Hugs!

I think the phrase is "gilding the lily" not building the lily.

Love the jug, it sounds lovely cuddling up with the doggies, it’s something I also love doing. Look after yourself it can be extra tiring being anaemic.

    1. I find the fatigue somewhat hard to cope with

      Delete
    2. Amen to that. The fatigue that comes with lupus and other chronic diseases is annoying and irritating as you cannot do lots of tasks start to finish. A shower of often tires me out so much I don't want to go the luncheon or do other things I'd planned to do. No fun.

      Hugs!

You often mention the cottage is cold, why don't you keep it warm? You say you'll light the fire "later " but why wait if the cottage is 'cool'

    1. What an odd comment ..have you ever lived in a cottage that is kept warm by a single fire ?
I cannot afford to keep the fire going 24 /7 especially if I am busy , going out and keeping active.
Like many people I wear an extra jumper and light the fire when I really need to

    2. I asked why the cottage is so cold too a few posts back. My cottage is cold bec the old windows are so drafty, for example. John's answer was sensible...maybe a space heater tho? I wear a down vest plus the layers described.

I didn't think it was a strange question. My old cottage would be cold but I have some oil filled radiators to keep the chill off until I light the fire. I have dogs and I like to have some warmth in the cottage for them when I'm not home.

  17. Yellow flowers are so needed about now. They help pass the time to Spring and the soon to be flowers that emerge after our long Winter. Filling your lovely new jug with flowers is a nice cheerful touch. A mid day Winter nap always good. I bet you felt refreshed. Brunch with a friend is always great.

  30. A very nice jug...ideal for daffodils. My Gran always had fresh flowers in her kitchen and hallway during the spring and summer, often from her garden (as I know you do, John). Very happy memories. With regards to the anaemia...Spatone is a very useful supplement, readily available from Boots, Holland & Barrett etc. You may have heard of it...it is spring water that is naturally rich in iron, packed in a small daily sachet....none of the digestive 'effects' of iron tablets. It comes from Trefriw near Llanrwst.

  31. Shall now reclassify "closing my eyes for a minute" as a "snoozette" and the two old tomcats as "organic hot water bottles". Next, reclassifying our rather worn throw.
The new vase ticks all the boxes: fit for purpose, attractive, and on sale. My own daff/tulip vase is an ancient milk jug too cracked and stained for its original use. Soo ready for spring!

  36. I bought my first daffodils on Thursday. It always amazes me that they were tight buds 48 hrs ago, bring them into a warm house and trim their " bottoms" and they are now in full bloom! Your jug is very stylish.
