This week has been a bit of bust if I was honest.
Yesterday I’d planned to meet with Nu in London.
We were looking forward to a chat and something nice to eat and the spectacle of English National Opera’s Its a wonderful life.
But then British Railways had a meltdown day with excuses galore why no trains were leaving Crewe for London yesterday morning.
Our somewhat cynical guard told us three reasons for the hold up. Overhead cable problems, people on the line , and congestion of traffic but he knew those didn’t bode well as three services to London had already been cancelled due to lack of staff.
I had planned to be in London before 2 pm.
I was still stat on a train in Crewe station at 2pm so with a heavy heart, like many other passengers I turned and got the Chester train home.
Seeing Nu was just what I needed.
I have a 2500 word essay to complete for collage on a Monday, and the rest of the week hasn’t been the kindest so Remembering Peter Kay in Phoenix Nights and “ What would Thora Hird do?”
I’ve downloaded some “ nice” movies , ( including The Holiday with Kate Winslett) , bought a large lasagne and intend to spend the day mooching on the sofa
I remember my husband and I crying with laughter at Phoenix Nights. After what has been a crap week for you, a large lasagne, some nice, easy to watch films and a mooch on the sofa (no doubt with some furry friends to share the lasagne) sounds like just the thing. xx
ReplyDeleteYes all three are on the sofa with me
DeleteI hope the rest of your week is better!
ReplyDeleteIt can’t get no worse xx
Delete"This too will pass." I say this regularly. It's the world we live in today. With your writing skills, 2,500 words will be a piece-of-cake. Lasagne sounds delicious.
ReplyDeleteI’ve just eaten it …bloody lovely
DeleteI wasn't able to go out for 2 days earlier this week - too virus poorly - I watched Everyone loves Raymond and Fraiser - I was laughing x

DeleteAs a valued exam invigilator at 2 schools - it is the exams officer I need to contact Not a teacher ✍
DeleteBetter getting snipping…2500 words are a lot to cut out and glue on.
ReplyDeleteI’ll tit it running tomorrow
DeleteYou said it was for collage!
DeleteI get it ... I think John was tired. But he'll 'tit' it tomorrow!
DeleteI was going to say these train strikes are such a drag -- but I guess it's hard to know whether this was an organized slowdown or just too many people calling in sick. In any case, sorry you couldn't make it to London.
ReplyDeleteI love Kate Winslet. Did you ever see her in "Hideous Kinky"? It's a terrible title but I liked the movie.
Wasn’t that her next film following titanic
DeleteWell, shucks! What a disappointment to have your trip cancelled so abruptly.
ReplyDeleteYour plans for today sound perfect, but suggest you get started on that essay. It won't write itself.
Consoling hugs!
Tomorrow
DeleteGet those dogs gathered round for comfort and at least get some notes made for that essay.
ReplyDeleteI’ll start in the morning
DeleteAn elderly singer dressed as Eminem belting out: “Will the real Slim Shady please stand up, please stand up?” to a couple of baffled old ladies who obediently shuffle to their feet.
ReplyDeleteNothing makes me laugh more than Phoenix Nights.
Yes…it still impresses and lasts the test of time
DeleteJohn let me know if you want me to write an essay for you, 2,500 words will not take me too long and will only cost you a little more than last time. Pay Pal is still OK too. Did the presentation get a good grade from your instructors?
ReplyDeleteSorry it's Susan not 'Anon', Blogger dammit!
DeleteLol I’ll manage but thank u
DeleteInteresting offer.
DeleteWas just talking with friends today about the problems with British train service. You’ve certainly had your share lately. I hope things improve — and you don’t get stuck on the stairs. Loved the video. I had to look up Thora Hird.
ReplyDeleteShe was an elderly tv actress very Northern , very dry , like a female Alan Bennett
DeleteKnown for her gentle humour a national treasure
So sorry that the trains have messed with your plans again. Sometimes makes me glad we don't go anywhere, can't be disappointed!
ReplyDeleteI love The Holiday. Ultimate feel good movie.
ReplyDeleteYou do like to be busy! Keeps you happy, hope you can reschedule w Nu.
ReplyDeleteUse both spell check and grammar check! Do you attend this course in person at a university or college or is it all remote?
The Holiday kicked off our Christmas movie watching last Sunday. Love it. What a shame about your meet up. So frustrating.
ReplyDeleteWhat would Thora Hird do? She'd take a broom to someone. Could be quite cathartic. I'd say 'go for it, John!~'
ReplyDeleteWe watched the first two episodes of the Harry & Megan docudrama this evening. Rather slow going, I think.
ReplyDeleteYou can never go wrong with a lasagna to make you feel better. :)
ReplyDeleteI hate it when pleasant plans get changed, but poo happens sometimes. Snuggle up and enjoy.
ReplyDeleteI like the sound of your mooching day and you need it after such a horrible week!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the mooch.
ReplyDeleteOur country is grinding to a standstill in so many areas, that the trains are now disappearing is really no surprise. Have you seen Last Christmas, some people hate it, but I love it and it's another 'must watch yearly' now on my list.
