A frost, the first of the year this morning.
I’m sat at the kitchen table with the bucket of coffee at 5,45 am
And I’m shivering in my uniform
It’s on mornings like these ( all too few in these global warming days I must admit) that I adore my new bathroom.
A boiling hot shower sets you up for the day
And chases away bad dreams, old memories and everyday worries
Winter is well and truly here
Early dark nights
Comfort food ( a tin of chip shop curry with mini roast potatoes last night )
I’ve had to change Albert’s feeding place as I caught Roger standing on tip toe on the arm of the reading chair carefully licking his bowl on the window ledge.
Now I know why he has the shits!
Hey ho
I hate these cold, dark, wet days. Definitely comfort food weather. I feel the need for a piping-hot baked potato, and thick, rib-clinging soup. Roger is certainly making himself at home, now! xx
ReplyDeleteI remember those soothing hot showers on cold winter mornings... and in new bathrooms. Wish we had new bathrooms even though we don’t have the same need for boiling hot showers. Hoping the day brings back sweet memories,
ReplyDeleteOooooh, I know what I'm having for dinner this evening. Let's just ignore the fact that the tub of McDonnells I have is probably out of date - that's the problem with only getting to stock up when I'm in Ireland and then try to not use it all immediately.
ReplyDeleteIsn't it great when you realise there's a simple, solvable reason for a dog's ailments? Elsie is passing what looks like blood. After two vet visits, meds and the talk of costly scans, I've noticed that the red dye is coming off her feeding bowl. Fingers crossed that's the reason.
ReplyDeleteRoger is a cutie pie - my thatch has naughty boy legs x 🚿
ReplyDelete"Winter well and truly here"? On November 3rd? Autumn surely? Are the winter months not December, January & February? A mild Autumn and Winter, when it comes, would have some benefits though, even if the heat-wave summer doesn't
ReplyDeleteIt depends on what country you're in. Growing up in Ireland I learned that winter is November, December and January. In Germany I had to learn that winter is apparently December, January and February. It still confuses me.
DeleteWell it is hard to believe that February could ever be counted as a Spring month (using your Irish system) - it's often the coldest month of the year
DeleteWinter here is January, Feb, March, April, May and sometimes June. We blame the ocean proximity.
DeleteTinned chip shop curry? I would have thought Roger is not the only one with the shits.
ReplyDeleteDo u know what? It was bloody lovely
DeleteI'm not sure I know what tinned chip shop curry is...Bel Ami
DeleteI can't think of what it could be either, never having known a "chip shop" to sell anything in a "tin", but perhaps John means a plastic container. He is a many of many mysteries...(and more than the occasional muddled word). We await enlightenment, although it is also always possible that he has been eating dog food, I suppose.
DeleteBig breath
DeleteChip shops sell a type of curry sauce which can be dribbled over your chips. It’s a bit synthetic but delicious after a drink
Sainsbury s sell the sauce in a tin with chick pieces
My education is complete for another day, thanks.
DeleteMy work is done
DeleteDark evenings and chilly mornings make me want comfort food too. Maybe a warming soup or casserole. Time to enjoy the good parts too like the autumn colours in the park and curling up with a book under a cosy blanket with a hot water bottle.
ReplyDeleteRoger is growing more confident. Albert won't be too happy if he catches him!
To prevent shivering in your uniform you need to invest in some thermal underwear. Available from Marks and Spencers - go here:-

Tesco's thermals are better and cheaper, not to mention Primark. M&S quality has plummeted in recent years - shoddy and short-lasting in many things.
DeleteThat Roger is just too clever for his own good!
ReplyDeleteSometimes only tinned chip shop curry and little roasties will hit the spot. Maybe sharing the Facebook Memory of you know who yesterday made him stay on your mind. It sounds like a lovely hot shower to 'wash that man right out of your hair' was just what you needed, well that and a bucket of coffee and getting to the bottom of the shits problem.
ReplyDeleteFrosty nights are pretty consistent now. When the sun rises the frost disappears and the day warms beautifully. Cool in the shade and warm in the sunshine makes a perfect Fall day. I'm glad you are loving your new luxury shower. It's a great way to start the day. Naughty Roger! He is really flexing his muscles.
ReplyDeleteI never like really hot showers. I like them warm, but not hot.
ReplyDeleteDetective Grey! How you've found the cause of Roger's misery.
ReplyDeleteYes, the days are shorter and the dark of night arrives at about 6:45p here. I love the cozy warm clothes of winter and lamplight, warm soup, and crusty bread.
Hope your day shift is pleasant and the journey there abd back how is lovely.
Hugs!
I think you can turn off FB Memories alerts. No sense revisiting the past.
ReplyDeleteWill Albert mind his bowl being moved after 14 years? Maybe you could move your chair instead?
Why is your house so cold? Your heating system baffles me.
PS My hurricane alert says you have H remnant/ tropical storm heading your way this weekend ! Batten down.
DeleteI love dark winter mornings, my hot cup watching the sky brighten.
ReplyDeleteCasseroles! Yes! It is indeed that time ready or not. We, too, had our first frost of the season this morning. It’s turning nippy here near the far north California coast. It’s noon and just hit 50 degrees (10 C). Roger is becoming more adventurous day by day. Good thing he has a smart housemate. Keep enjoying your brilliant remodel and give Albert an extra treat.
ReplyDeleteFrost? Yikes!
