After many weeks of trepidation and angst, Roger has now mastered the cottage staircase.
True he runs at it with all legs flaying,
Almost as if he was a over wound clockwork toy injected with Adrenalin
And true he is still very much so an uncoordinated mass of red and tan curls, typical of a puppy half his age.
But hundreds of times a day, he can be found somewhere on or around the staircase,
Bouncing up it
And Falling and bouncing back down it.
A gleefully happy smile upon his daft face.
Roger, so very clever. He'll be riding an escalator before long, big grin on his face.
ReplyDeleteAnother milestone conquered. xx
ReplyDeleteSounds like Roger is simply imitating his owner.
ReplyDeleteRoger conquering the stairs is so touching-My tich looked bewildered when he saw us going upstairs -but one day I heard him in the hall - I peeped and saw him practicing a few steps at a time - he did this a few afternoons - now he loves racing up along around and down again x🤸
ReplyDeleteOne of my dogs would take her toys to the top of the stairs, throw it down and then chase it. If a ball bounced into the lower hall we learned to step back as there would be a large collie following it.
ReplyDeleteCheers
Roger's silhouette looks so alert and happy.
ReplyDeleteUp you go now Master Roger, into any rooms and on any available bed. Oh well John, at least you are used to the others and so have to leave upstairs doors all wedged open/ajar. In case they get shut in...... then the fun starts, toilet accidents, clawed doors and hey let's chew up some stuff in here whilst we are shut in....who closed that door....oh endless fun ahead, bless! Tess x
ReplyDeleteStairs might look like climbing a tree to a dog. We stayed in a two story house once. Our older dog didn't miss a beat with the stairs, but the younger one would climb them and then not be able to come down.
ReplyDeleteRoger is a real live wire!
ReplyDeleteAll of that energy
ReplyDeleteIt is very nice to read something that puts a smile on your face. My four year old Boston Terrier just got over by afraid of my stairs.

Watching a pupply is wonderful and pure amusement.
ReplyDeleteStairs are a great accomplishment. Roger is very proud of himself. Gleeful.
ReplyDeleteBuilding up those puppy muscles and that puppy coordination!
ReplyDeleteOne of the joys of life is standing on the landing and watching your dog go downstairs in his own unique way - happy memories here :)
ReplyDeleteAlthough you can't see his face in the photo you can sense it. It is the equivalent of a child's first steps,
ReplyDeleteBoth my pugs have had bad falls down my steep stairs. My house is raised due to hurricane flooding issues, just 7 feet above sealevel, so they have [had] to navigate the stairs. Scary tho. I needed a professional trainer to restart Baby Mo after after his fall during Covid lockdown.
ReplyDeleteThe carpeting you have will help.
It's like watching kids learning how to go up and down the stairs. Sounds like he's having fun:)
ReplyDeleteWhat a charming picture your words paint in describing Roger's pleasure at his accomplishment! Yes, the stair carpet is good for traction!
ReplyDeleteHugs!
I'll never forget the sheer joy our first puppy showed when she could go up and down the stairs. Three or four times she went up and down getting faster and more sure of herself. A special memory for me.
ReplyDeleteBless! I never knew it was a thing that dogs found stairs difficult. I've had two dogs in my life and neither had a problem that I can remember. Well done Roger the world/cottage is now your oyster.

Dim dogs jo
DeleteRoger is a bit dim
Hundreds of times a day? Hundreds? Really?
ReplyDeleteNo
DeleteWe had a dog that dropped golf balls down the steps and then chased them, bouncing as wildly as they did. It was a miracle she never got seriously injured! Perhaps you could demonstrate to Roger for that added element of chaos every home needs?

Oh god I can’t think of anything worse
DeleteMy brother, who lives in a one story home, drove home to visit family, a trip of 1,000 miles, with his two 13-14 year old dogs. They stayed in our sister's condo with a very steep stairway that the dogs needed to navigate to go outside. They learned pretty quickly, but the first few times were downright hilarious!
ReplyDeleteNina
Dogs seem to master going up far easier than they do coming down again.
ReplyDeleteI’m telling you that boy is a genius.
ReplyDeleteMy short-legged Jug comes down the stairs on her belly. Looks rather like a seal skidding her way down. I will video it one day.
