Mrs Harris and Other Stories

I bought a second hand book online last week and it arrived yesterday. Paul Gallico’s The Snow Goose. The novella was written in the 1940’s and read by me when I was eleven back in 1973.
It haunted me then,
The visuals in my head of the snow goose circling the little boat in Dunkirk

I have not read it since although one of Gallico’s later novels The Poseidon Adventure is still one of my most favourite and perplexing reads.
Gallico’s seems to be haunting me a little for after seeing this trailer I’ve booked to see Mrs Harris Goes To Paris at the Storyhouse
It’s a gentle movie,I know I’d like

I didn’t know until recently that Paul Gallico wrote the novel

  7. I also enjoyed "The Snow Goose" when I was young. It took you away from reality to a different realm.

Long ago I enjoyed The Poseidon Adventure movie and had no idea there were novels by the same author. I'll have to look for this new movie.

    Hugs!

Poseidon adventure as a book taught me a whole lot about the craft of writing.

  12. Oh my, on Sunday morning when I was a kid, the NZBC had a radio programme of children's stories- the purpose I think was to give us something to do while our parents had a sleep in. One of the regular stories was a dramatisation of the snow goose and it haunted me too. Anything about death or dying did - so much so it became a real issue. BUT, it is undeniably a beautiful story, so beautifully written. BTW, tech help here because you mentioned not being able to comment - right click on the empty comment field, choose "this frame only", and the comment opens in a separate screen Doing it now.

  13. I love this book. I have it also. I never realized that he wrote Mrs Harris. Another of his stories that always haunted me was The Nine Lives of Thomasina.

  19. I should see Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris. I’ve never read The Snow Goose, nor even Poseidon Adventure (and I don’t think I saw the film all the way through).

  20. I seem to remember a tv film of The Snow Goose with Richard Harris and Jenny Agutter. Possibly from the early 80s. I bought the book after watching it.
