I’m not travelling again by plane for a while. My next trip is not until Oct! The message that our flight was cancelled was given by an unfortunate red faced airport worker flanked by two policemen at our boarding gate.
Look on the Ryan Air App was their only advice
I’ve not long got home.
Gorgeous Dave is a calm soul but even he was a little disappointed ( note the sad eyes)
We sang Paradise by the dashboard light on the way home which was fun
I emailed Fabio ,on night shift at Hotel Prati even he was disappointed
That’s the pits!
ReplyDelete😪
DeleteOh how horrid for you both. Any chance of another flight?
ReplyDeleteNo Maureen , not realistic in timescale , we were last flight out
DeleteI'm so sorry to hear that you got another cancellation. What that airline is doing to people is appalling! How many hopes have been dashed and money wasted?
ReplyDeleteScotch eggs and a good G&T are in order I think.
We only had booked a holiday . There was a man at the gate in tears as he was due to see his daughter’s dance recital
DeleteMany Italians were going home too
Oh, that's a bummer! You are now one of thousands whose holiday flights have been cancelled. COVID & Brexit - the gifts that keep on giving.
ReplyDeleteYes a bit of a bummer
ReplyDeleteOh my, I'd be livid.
ReplyDeleteI’ve been happier
DeleteSo the U.S. is not alone in having thousands of flights canceled. I hesitate to make plans that would require flying because I'm afraid everything would be ruined by a cancelation.
ReplyDeleteLove,
Janie
We can go again x
DeleteI am sorry to read this.
ReplyDeleteMe too thanks my friend. X
DeleteThis is terrible! What a let down, you must be so disappointed. Dave is quite handsome, despite the sad eyes.
ReplyDeleteThe ''good'' news is, it seems it is/ may be extremely hot in Rome this weekend, 90+*F, which would be even hotter to your cool temp acclimated Welsh self. Yesterday, you said it was hot in T but when I looked it up, weatherbug said 69*F, lol. You can reschedule for early winter when things calm down.
Yes lizzy I did share with Dave , I may have collapsed and died in the coliseum
DeleteWe may laugh a little but as a child I twice got heat stroke/ heat exhaustion when my parents, inveterate tourists, pushed us on in excruciating high 90* temps. It was pretty bad. One was climbing into the Statue of Liberty, one way iron stairs, up only. Hordes of impatient people crowded behind...
DeleteThat is The PITS!! I have heard so many similar stories about Ryanair we decided never to fly them, and instructed our travel agent so, before our wonderful "Big Trip" ... back in 2019 ... it seems like such a long time ago, but Covid has changed everything (for the worse) and the Ryanair stricture is even more true now.
ReplyDeleteVirginia
I'm sorry to hear this has happened. It's happening everywhere. Plans, hopes and dreams dashed by the airlines. I'd wait for 6 months and see if anything improves before scheduling another flight.
ReplyDeleteToo bad! Air travel is so iffy right now.
ReplyDeleteIt must be such a disappointment John - I heard of the heat in Rome too on the radio - I thought of you --It really is best to wait a while rather than die at the Colosseum xx
ReplyDeleteAt least you were still home when your flight was cancelled. I've read so many horror stories of people stranded away from home and unable to get back. But still, quite a disappointment.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry to hear that this flight was also cancelled. At least you weren't stuck far from home. Albert, Mary, and Dorothy will be delighted to see you.
ReplyDeleteHugs!
When they start working again properly, maybe we should all boycott THEM.
ReplyDeleteThats pants. You've been so unlucky.
ReplyDeleteI hope you are able to reschedule for when things finally settle down. Xx
So sorry. I hoped your flights would be ok in spite of what is going on everywhere at the moment.
ReplyDeleteThe end for the 'Fat rascals' come closer? Or maybe it's now passed.
ReplyDeleteI did wonder if your flight would go ahead. What a pain in the proverbial. I hope you get a full refund on everything, that would temper the disappointment a little. xx
ReplyDeleteOh dear. You must be bitterly disappointed. Get those fat rascals out and enjoy with a bucket of coffee...... that is not a euphemism.. :-)
ReplyDeleteI see you changed the comment settings. Oh well, it was good while it lasted. I'll leave you to it now. Have fun.
ReplyDeleteI’m not sure how that happened ,,,rectified
DeleteThe flight from Rome which would have been your plane back to Rome was confusing because at first it was on time, then it was displayed as running late by 45 minutes "possibly affected by another flight" and then it went back to on-time. and then finally cancelled. There is not another scheduled flight until Sunday I wonder what has happened to those waiting to get back to England.
DeleteSo sorry to hear that.
ReplyDeleteOh pants. What I don’t understand is why they don’t cancel til the last minute. They must know hours if not days earlier which flights need to be cancelled-I’m guessing the less busy ones so I find it abhorrent that they can do it at the last minute.
ReplyDeleteSally
So now you have to spend hours reclaiming what you can. So sorry.
ReplyDeleteThat is a pain! But as you say it was only for a holiday, compared to others.
ReplyDeleteGatwick airport is apparently saying that only 5% of flights have been cancelled..I wondered if it is the same everywhere? It is unfortunate that you have had this happen more than once.
So sorry to hear the flight was cancelled. As others have mentioned the heat may be too much there so you may have had a lucky escape! :)
ReplyDeleteWell dang! I know that flights here in the U.S. can be canceled on a dime. I have a flight attendant friend, and she tells me the airlines never even tell them why a flight is delayed or canceled, they are to make up something to try and pacify people, and I suppose that's not new to them. It's been hotter than 12 hells here in the Midwest, making going anywhere a misery, so I agree, the silver lining is that you didn't have to traipse through that heat in Rome!
ReplyDeleteI am so glad that I had no plans to travel by air this year. Even travelling by car may become too expensive now.
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry to hear this. How frustrating! Even though I know you must be very disappointed, you seem to be taking it well. I am in the process of booking a ticket to fly home to visit my mother, and I dread it for the same reason as there is only one flight a day to the airport closest to my mother's house. Take care.
ReplyDeleteHow terrible that your vacation was cancelled. I can only imagine the disappointment. So sorry for you and Dave.
ReplyDeleteUgh. These cancelled flights are a nightmare.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry your trip was cancelled....I was looking forward to hearing about all your Italian la dolce vita adventures. Next time....you will love Rome in any weather
ReplyDeleteToo bad, John. You have a good attitude about it, tho. You will go again another time...
ReplyDeleteOh John I am so sorry. I was fortunate to get to Spain and back flying from Stansted x
ReplyDeleteYou are good at weathring disappointment John - but am so sorry. Try and relax for a few days.
ReplyDeleteThe whole situation is ridiculous isn't it. I'm relieved we went to Spain when we did, even though Manchester Airport was in chaos ... and that our next two short breaks are both in the UK and close to home.
ReplyDeleteI'm not a traveller but I don't know how the airlines can just cancel on a whim. People are paying customers and surely have some rights ... I think the airlines should be forced to compensate when they cancel. Sorry you missed out on your holiday... I would have been crushed with disappointment, you are much better at weathering disappointment but it still sucks for you.
ReplyDeleteJo in Auckland
TWICE???? My God. That is a heartbreaker.
